The best way to do this repair is to drill a hole with a 1/16th bit through both parts of the metal where the spot weld was. Then use a tiny nut and bolt to join the two pieces together.
Worked for me anyway. Wary of the solder trick, and gluing may not work long term as there is quite a bit of springiness there.

I recently contacted a company in Hartford Connecticut about recovering some lampshades that I have, and was told that it would cost $135 to “rustproof” the shade, in addition, there was a charge for recovering, a charge for material, a charge for shipping. so, to recover a lamp shade would cost upwards of about 300.00! does this make any kind of sense? gonna figure out and do it myself! the frames are unique and I doubt very much, replaceable, so there’s the added “possibility” of loss or damage, are we still on earth!?

JB Weld would have done the trick with less hassle. I did it on my lamp and it’s still holding up after 2.5 years.

Hi, Michael. I've called three lampshade places in Atlanta to fix my shade the way you're fixing yours, and all three of them told me that the shade will get ruined from the heat. Yours seems fine, no?

It's spelled "solder" but pronounced "sodder."

It's spelled "solder" but pronounced "sol der". "Sodder" is an american slackjaw thing and completely wrong.
