Another great, honest review. I'm roughly your height, and you're absolutely right about driving positions. In many cars the design is for drivers in the 5-8 to 5-10/6-0 range and if you fall outside that it's very difficult to find a position that feels right. When the seat's adjusted for legs the steering wheel feels too far away. Head brushing the roof is another problem. We were swapped into a TT roadster hired on holiday last year and it wasn't bad, but I never found the sweet spot for driver comfort in it. They're beautiful well made cars, and at the end of 8 days I didn't hate it, but I also I didn't' find myself craving one to bring home.
Thanks for this review and insight, I am 6'4'' and have looked at many videos on the TT, TTS, & TTRS. And no one has said anything on what the height max is for it. Great Review I do agree! I love Audi and its easy to be trapped in the Audi Lover Groups. but honest reviews from others who aren't big fans like me bring great insight.
Had a mk1 just after they added the boot spoiler and the exterior and interior design on the first model was truly revolutionary. Not sure any manufacturer has manged that since. The roadster with the hard top was almost identical to the designers first drawings and to think it was almost going to be called the Audi Edelweiss !! Great review as always.
Agree with what you say about the driving position. I learnt that basically you have to have the seat backrest more upright in the TT (if you want room for your legs and don't want to have to stretch your arms out too far). I don't like it, I wish the steering wheel could come out about another 2 inches, so I could have the seat more reclined, but I've got used to it. Although this brings me onto the next problem, the backrest doesn't stay in position, it slowly goes back over time and I have to keep adjusting it back again.
Agreed. I find in my 18 MY TTS Black Ed. I can't get the steering wheel close enough and hence, have to sit closer than I like. Meaning my legs are too bent. You can live with it, but it's not ideal. All Audi need to do is allow you to adjust the steering wheel a few inches further back and down. So many people have noticed this issue, it's disappointing Audi hasn't addressed it. Same issue with the RS3 I had as well.
I wanted a TTS last year, watched some vids, found LLF vids with them in, then found you on LLF with Ricky and I ended up getting a new M240 last Sept. Always liked the TT platform, but I'm BMW through and through. Thanks Joe...
Nice car and very good review. I like the "new style" Joe adopted: more detailed review inside and outside the car rather than the spirited driving only. I think it has now reached the right balance between informative and visual content. @ Joe: Please give us more of those reviews. And please don't send us to shmee channel for the car information. You do it t very well if not better.
I own and very proud a 66 3 door S3 I'm 6ft 4 the seats amazing to look at but I dont fit . But what a car I've turned her she's 380 bhp ,and reliable performance..
Was never a fan of the mk1 or the mk2 TT’s. Much prefer the mk3 and personally wouldn’t spend the extra to get the TTS having watched this vid! Still unsure about the price though🤔 Great review once again joe!👍🏼
Joe would you ever consider driving something like a Toyota GT86, MX5, or even the new Toyota Supra when it comes out? On that note, the Nissan 370Z Nismo actually works out the same price as a 140i these days, so it would be cool to see you reviewing a wider set of cars.
Audi tt’s used to be everywere back in the day but now i never hardly ever see a current year tt. I seen some were that Audi are bringing out a 4 door version of the tt.
Even without the options these are ~£40k cars. I'm a bit speechless, I thought these were ten thousand (at least) less than they are. Thats for the lower powered versions too? Not even the 300 hp golf R tune engine. As you say, many more interesting options at that price imo. For half the price I would be wanting more than a dusty, whooshy, muted turbo vag 4 pot. 5,6 or 8 cylinders for the last few years they are produced/ financially viable. It's all a bit depressing.
@@prxybeats Right now on Autotrader there's 3 2018 TTRS's with around 4000 miles on the clock for under £46k. I didn't say anything about new but why would anyone choose this 2 litre over one of them? And Mark 2's start at £13k for high mileage cars, where are you getting £30k from?
Idk how it´s in GB but in Germany you can get this engine with a manual gearbox :) really looking forward to the collab again with Apex and your buddy Misha :D
£450 for the wind deflector, it's a convertible ffs, should come as std. Next gen TT roadster - the roof is a £1500 option. Audi make nice cars but the options lists take the p*ss imo. Another great review btw.
Hi Joe, another great video. I have a few questions. Firstly, whilst the dash does look lovely, is it not annoying not having a central infotainment display? Does the engine sound / exhaust note sound sporty enough? If it were your money would you buy this or another small coupe? And why?
Great video as always Joe! One question that has nothing to do with it. You are going to visit my hometown in the Spain Petrolhead tour of this year. Will there be a chance to meet with you guys, or youd rather keep it private? Thanks!
Hi Joe, as someone who is 6ft 4 then would you recommend an M240i over one of these then? I have been torn between the two but haven't had a chance to test drive either yet
I'm 6'5 and we bought a '19 TT Roadster w/ S Line package that my wife mainly drives. I take it once in awhile or if we're going on a Sunday drive together. I couldn't believe that I fit into the car for it being so small in appearance. I have more room in the TT than these we looked @ - Nissan 370Z, BMW Z4 & the Jaguar F Type. It's definitely a fun car to drive.
AUDI dealer recently told me they’re not selling any due to the steep price tag. They are also being discontinued and will be introduced in 2021 as a five door.....
Owned a mK3 TTS for 7months and sold it for a m140.. ride was awful and it rattled like hell. Still miss it’s looks and cabin but the m140i at the moment doesn’t rattle and is more comfortable.. if not a bit bouncy
@@spolo123 hi no, it only stayed with me for 6months and traded it in for a Porsche Cayman. I did however fit coilovers, so much better and highly recommended
@@sarahnaden2176 Oh I was thinking about getting an Alpine instead of an M140i... Do you miss a bit the m140i now or was it a good choice to switch to a roadster? I mean the M140i is as close you can get to a coupe while not giving up on practicality
@@spolo123 I bought a cayman which is a coupe not a roadster. I don’t miss the m140 at all, compared to the tts and this Porsche it’s not in the same league handling wise. Although it’s plus points are it sounded so much better and in a straight line was quicker. More punch to it. But handling even with the coilovers I thought was pretty bad.
@@sarahnaden2176 Food for thoughts, thanks... I'll have to seriously consider taking the around over the m140i and learn to give up on practicality. A TTS could have been a good compromise, had it had a less harsh ride I suppose...
Is it just me but is it kind of disappointing that the TT has gained only 20HP in TWENTY YEARS?! That’s progress of 1HP per year!! I drive an Arteon R Line, it has 280HP standard but now has 335HP, my 5 seat saloon would tear the arse out of an apparent “sports car”!
The 230i never gets the love it deserves. I have one and think it’s great. The sound is a little ordinary but there’s no doubting how effective the motor is. Throw in rear-drive dynamics and subtle looks and I think it’s the real sleeper in the lineup.
6’3” - 6’4” is giant?!? I find that German cars typically are very accommodating for my height (I am a true giant) and the petals typically have room for my BIG feet! Do you ever run into that problem?
Great 👍 Video You would need to be clinically insane to pay 45k for that 🤪 Not my bag to be honest. I owned a 225bhp Quattro from new in 2003 😂 Metallic Dark Blue
This is what the cabin of a sports car must look like. A good shot with all the needed information about the driving - as always Joe !!
I ordered mine on April 1st 2018 - still don't have a delivery date, but construction starts on 4th Feb. Can't wait.

Very well done review Joe. I have a 2017 Roadster. Great small car for the back roads of the USA..

Appreciate in the review mentioning impact of Roadster weight being fresh in mind from just driving both.
More likely weighted down the by £8000 of extras.

Interesting that this refreshed model doesn't seem to suffer the fart noises of the Mk3 TTS?
