Bilinen ilk Alman imparatorluğu Roma Cermen İmparatorluğudur, Roma Cermen imparatorluğunun dağılışının ardından Bismarck dağılmış olan prenslikleri birleştirerek İkinci Alman imparatorluğunu kurar, ancak ikinci Reich, Birinci Dünya Savaşı sonunda yıkılır, bunun ardından Hitler, üçüncü Alman imparatorluğunun, yani üçüncü Reich'ın kurulduğunu ilan eder, ona göre bin yıllık bir devrimdir bu, ancak üçüncü Reich 12 yıl içinde yıkılır.
