- This was our first time eating at The Ugly Grouper. We did so, on the recommendation of the Vafunseekers, and also that we had seen it 2 years ago, but didn't get out there to try it.
They specialize on meals with grouper fish,, but also have many other selections to choose from.
At the restaurant, there is a large ugly grouper that weighs 3,180 pounds, is 20' long, 14' tall, and 10' wide. It is made from scrap parts from automobiles, old license plates, and a whole host of other metal objects.

From the way y’all are dressed it looks like the weather is finally warmer. That was a crazy looking piece of artwork . The food looked good.
It was very good, and yes, it was much warmer. It was 82 yesterday, and it is going to be in the 80s again today.

Another fun and unique place…we always enjoy trying new restaurants, especially when it is recommended by others who had a great dining experience. The icing on the cake for sure is having a wonderful and outgoing server. It’s hard to find now, but they are out there Derrick, your sense of humor is contagious😊…Thanks for sharing yet another fun filled dining moment. Hope to visit Florida again. We’ve only been once..25 years ago on a cruise..we flew into Ft Lauderdale and flew back from Miami…so only have memories of both airports. As mentioned earlier, a dear friend lives in Port Richey FL, so hoping to see her in the near future. Have a safe trip back to NC. God Bless.
Hope you get down there to see her. Florida is a very neat place to visit. And yes, you are correct about good servers like that being hard to find. He did a really good job.

My daughter's go here to AMI every year and they both adore the Ugly Grouper Restaurant! We all have been going to AMI for the past 20+ years, because my mom and dad lived in Bradenton.onky 10-12 minutes away. ( : Sadly, my mom and dad are both passed, now, but my girls still have gone back yearly! Living the good life on AMI! It is the best! I was just there last July and need to book a visit again soon! ( : Holy moly, both of your meals are enormous! No wonder my girls love it there! ( :

I’ve found anytime there’s live music, especially on the beach, it gets busy and loud. Not a bad thing…but you’d better not leave your table. Lol I’ve had that happen before.

@@cumberlandquiltchic1 Thank you for that. We both have been trying to shed some pounds. That's kind of hard to do when we are always doing restaurant reviews, but we are trying to cut back the times we are not doing those.
And yes, it was delicious.

Thanks for the shout-out! The prices appear to be higher than when we were there last year! Loved the info on the Big Ugly Grouper. We thought we were going to lose it when they cleared your table off when you went over to look at the grouper. Glad they didn't seat anyone else. So glad that y''all enjoyed the food since we told you about it. Would hate to send you somewhere you did not like. Both of the meals looked great and the portion sizes were generous. Which burger did you like best? The one here or the waygu burger? Love the closing! lol
Yes, I've never had my table get cleaned off just for getting up for a moment. I guess we should have gone to the grouper at different times, but I was wanting her to take a picture of me by it. That will teach me to wait until after I've eaten.
As far as which burger was best, that's hard to say, since they were so different. One had the pulled pork and the other didn't. As far as the quality of the beef in both of them, I would put them right up there with each other. Hard to pick a favorite. They were both very flavorful.

@@NCMemoryMakers Both of your meals looked awesome. The reason we almost lost it about the table being cleared is we could definitely see that happening to us. The other video I was telling you about that I'm going to upload today, is currently in the process of uploading now. It's not the best quality review we've ever done, because of a couple of factors. I had to add some imported music over parts of it, because of the background music they were playing in the restaurant. Didn't want to get a copyright hit, so I was trying to drown it out.
Also, for some reason, my phone would all of a sudden go mute right in mid sentence, so I had to clip and edit out a lot of parts. There would be sound, and then it would just go silent until the next clip, and there would be sound again. My phone has done that several times in the past. It's been a while, but it started up again yesterday with this review.
Still, I wanted to post it.
I live in FL and love grouper but it has become so expensive. Those prices seemed better than the places that charge market price.
Have you been to Fried Green Tomatoes in Juliette, GA? You really need to go there sometime and do a review. All the food is so good.
We have not tried that, but that sounds like a place I would like. I'm guessing it's Southern country cooking?
Yes, it is southern country cooking. They have a board where they write the side dishes for the day and another board where they write the desserts each day. The fried green tomatoes were wonderful. And then I had a 3 veggie plate! I said I have become my mother. The veggies sounded so good that I had to have them Instead of ordering a meat with one or 2 sides.
Ugly food always taste best. Pineapple coleslaw sounds like the next big thing.
Pineapple cole slaw is really good. I'd never even heard of it until about 2 years ago.
As far as ugly food, I look at it this way….It's all ugly after we chew it.
Hello have been enjoying your videos. We will be traveling to Bradenton and Anna Maria Island in late September for a wedding. How are the beaches, tourists, and temperatures for this time of year?
The beaches are very nice, assuming there's not a red tide.
If there is a red tide, there will be a lot of dead fish, and an odor coming from the water. Also, the water will have a reddish color to it.
Other than that, the beaches will be beautiful. I only mention red tide, because it does occur sometimes.
The weather will be pretty much like summer temperatures, but maybe a few degrees cooler.
Plan for hot days and pleasant evenings. A daily rain shower is not out of the ordinary.
As for tourists, I have not actually been that time of year, but I would imagine it would be a little bit less crowded after Labor Day weekend.
Also, be aware that is hurricane season. You do want to check for that before you go.

Just wondering after watching all of your dining reviews in AMI whether Starfish remains your number 1? Where do The Ugly Grouper and Tide Tables sit in the rankings?

Star Fish still sits atop the list, as our favorite dining experience in the area. I would also put The Ugly Grouper high on the list. The food at Tide Tables was good, as well. I felt the grouper bites were priced somewhat high (for the amount you get...5 oz), but she loved the fish tacos. I would probably put it maybe 3rd or 4th.
Honestly, every dining experience we had there, was good. But Star Fish has been consistently good every time we have gone, and we just love the experience of eating on the water.
I will also say that The Feast makes a really good pizza. Although the burger was good too, I would go back to The Feast for the pizza alone.

You missed the evening lights and the live music. But the prices... uggh...... the prices are a reflection of what a restaurant like that is doing in this high inflation economy in a tourist destination. In other words, caution.... it's expensive vs the quality of food, which was... meh... especially if you are bringing a group because it'll put a dent in your vacation budget! So it was a "one-and-done" box check for us, but we wouldn't be going back.
Yes, you are correct. Restaurants are charging a lot more these days, for lesser quality. To be honest, we went early because we're not really into the partying atmosphere and the live music like that.
