@@JamesLeung I have mate who naturally has an athletic build. Any clothes look frickin' great on him- he wears mostly non designer hand me downs or cheap charity shop clobber. Always, looks class and asked what label is clothes are???
He's small, it's the fit of the clothes. Mostly the sleeves. Too baggy and your arms look like noodles even if you're muscular. Short and tight like this looks better even if you're skinny.

I got the same 2S14 Nature colour from their Berlin store in April. I had a very long conversation with the sales person where he explained fit and care instructions. I left with the feeling that the company genuinely cares about the product, craftsmanship and quality. And I love the t-shirt, of course 😊
Glad you liked it man! It didn’t suit me unfortunately. But yes you can tell that a lot of thought goes into their products, I appreciate what they do.
Thank you so much for visiting our flagship store in Berlin and sharing your experience - We're happy you had a pleasant visit and are enjoying your 2S14 T-shirt!
aside from the T-shirts, which have very interesting fits (50s model being more like an undershirt, 40s being slightly wider, 70s with a very wide collar etc.), Merz B is also worth considering for their other products, e.g. the loopwheeled sweatshirts are also excellent
Don't hesitate to take your clothes to a tailor if the length isn't your cup of tea! You can get some fabric pins to fold up the bottom and hold it in place so you can play around in front of a mirror to find the kind of length you like
Thanks man. I’m really fussy when it comes to collars and for some reason this one felt too big and loose on me. Perhaps it would have improved with a few washes but unfortunately I ended up returning it!
I wouldn’t stray from washing and drying regularly. I bought both shirts (Carmy and the super heavy weight shirt) and both shrink down to the cut you’re looking for, particularly the length. Don’t be afraid to dry them regularly.
Having worked in films/tv I’ve found that almost all clothing is altered to get a better fit to compliment the actors. Tightening sleeves to fit the bicep area for example. This appears to be exactly the case for carmy for the shirt length.
Thank you for actually giving a review of the WASHED shirt. All these "influencers" just buy a bunch of shirts (usually not even the right size for them because they just "ordered their normal size". Regarding the fit vs the JA fit... you have longer legs and shorter torso than he does. He is more torso, less leg. If you machine dry the 215 it will shorten more.
Great video mate. Definitely should factor in the build of Carme. Especially because I have a more athletic build myself and the difference it makes on the tightness of clothing is astronomical I sometimes have to size up because the sleeve is too small, even though length on torso is great.
Yeah for sure! I would have thought that sizing up meant the t shirt would be longer on him but it still looks short. Maybe he had it hemmed or maybe the t shirt just rides up his body a bit more because of his build?
Came to comment to look for this. That’s literally it. OP isn’t that athletic or as built as White. Hard for the shirt to be tight on the chest and arms as well as ride up a bit like White if OP doesn’t have much muscle to work with. White is pretty built, especially since his newest movie he’s a wrestler.
I have a few of their loop-wheeled shirts but my favorites from them are their oversized fit sweaters & relaxed fit sweatpants (each 13oz). In general the very basic colors stay around but they do have a few new colors each year that are limited runs.
Just wash it at a higher temperature James! Like 40˚ or so and it should shrink up even more. If that don’t work wash it even higher or tumble dry it even. I have the opposite problem as a tall guy where my loopwheeled t shirts and sweats needs to be kept very far away from higher temps so i can still use them, but i have an old loopwheeled(or at least tubular knit) army T from my brother that fits like carmys. It should keep shrinking in length but not width.
Yeah I’ll give this a go, thanks! Just worried it might shrink even more on the sleeves, which I want to avoid because they fit me nicely at the moment. Maybe getting it hemmed is the best option? Ah yeah that so I guess you have to stick to cold washes to stop the shrinkage!
@@JamesLeung I don’t know about the sleeve part, but I think you’ll be okay. The nature of how loopwheeled t shirts work is that they revert to their natural state after washing and then gradually stretch out somewhat. That is a desireable trait because they just keep doing that over and over. But they tend to become a little shorter and shorter in length over time. I would just give it some time before I do any hemming. Just use the hell out of it and wash it at 40˚+ at least like 10 or so times before you decide. Good luck mate!
Good to see this. I came across this brand few weeks ago and found their 14oz T-shirt. Thought it could look cool but was pretty expensive. This week I noticed they had it on sale so I ordered it. I have never heard of The Bear or that actor but it’s fascinating to learn something new about T-shirt manufacturing.
A little late to comment but "boxy cut" means a shirt doesn't follow the contour of your body, as opposed to the "slim fit" tee that is tapered down and hugs your chest and waist line. It doesn't mean square or rectangle. Another way to think about it is that boxy cut on a t-shirt is like a straight cut on pants. It's not curved or tapered. It just goes straight down.
@@JamesLeung I quite like the fit on it to be honest. Did the label say to wash at 20 degrees? I normally go 30-40 degrees so maybe that will give you a more cropped finish? Might make it too small everywhere though so I dunno
I can attest to their quality, my husband has about 20 of their shirts that are used exclusively as undershirts bought a decade ago and laundered with no special care. They’ve held their shape and fabric looks as great the day they were bought.
My brother gave me a few of these shirts years ago, he got a deal on a bunch of them somehow. At the time I didn’t know they were so expensive, but they’re so nice. Still holding up after like 6 or 7 years. I’ve since bought a sweatshirt from them and a henley. If they ever decide to close up shop I’m buying several.

I've been to Merz b. Schwanen's store in Berlin and they explained there is a cropped version of the T-shirt. Actually, it seems like the they've got such a high demand for the 215, that they designed a similar model, the 2M15 (and 2M15C for cropped), with side seams, thus avoiding the long lead-time to make the loopwheeled basis. In my two visits to the place I could not get the white 215. Green 215 and white 2M15 were my choices (both were last size M pieces readily available). Luv them!
Merz shirts will keep shrinking until about was 10-15. A well worn one looks insanely good though get compliments all the time. I’ve had my first merz shirt for over 6years now. Yea 6yrs. Kind of crazy I own about 5 of them now
I had the privilege of trying their shirts on in person, and while the cotton options were great they definitely had a bit of a rough texture, at least pre-wash. I ended up getting one of their Tees in merino wool and the fabric is just incredible. Super soft and completely crease free. Of course the wool comes at a really steep price but it was totally worth it.
Brill video, thanks 😘 Had previously never heard of loopwheel fabric; was really interesting to hear and see about what these t's are like both aesthetically and the weight/feel of them. I thought I'd just been unlucky that every single t shirt I've ever bought never keeps its shape, regardless. And on only a slight tangent and not irrelevant at all, I love that sun tattoo you have on your right bicep!

If you ask me, the 2S14 looks amazing on you! Of course, most importantly is how you feel when wearing it. Another brand to check out that does loopwheel tee is The real McCoys!
Spot on video. Just received two of the 1950’s for Christmas. I’ve a bit of a belly these days. Shirts are a 9/3XL. Not sure if I’ll keep them. I like the sleeve length of the 215.
I have not put in the cost of the Merz shirt, but have purchased the Bronson Mfg loopwheel tee featured in this video. It's very heavy, will last a long time, and seems to feature similar cotton shrinkage/fit as the heavy weight Merz.
I think the fact that it is in color plays a HUGE role, the white shirt doesn’t have the color change issue. I think he is more than definitely wearing a large that is shrunk to fit him.
It was tailored for him. He also only wears totally white Nike cortez sneakers in real life. His minimal and attention to detail style is really him in real life.
here is a little extra info. Merz b schwnen have from what i can tell, the only one that is big enough to do 2xl size shirts the ones this size coming out of japan are xl only. if you order 2xl from japan it will be loopwheeled fabric but itll have side stitching. that isnt a problem as the japanese tshirts are really overengineered anyway so im not worried about longevity but its worth noting if you plan to oversize your shirt to have a loose fit it might be a surprise to get a japanese loopwheeled shirt that has the same construction of a more standard t. merz dont have this problem as their machine is bigger. the 215 isnt for everyone its for me at least a tshirt that isnt for layering .
Dude try thirty degrees, no wonder it didn't shrink much at 20. You forgot to mention the greek organic cotton that is used exclusively for the loopwheel stuff from Merz B Schwanen. Have you got any pieces from the Wakayama factory? Like the iron heart thermal henley for example.
I’m a tall dude with long arms and legs. I wear oversized/ baggy clothing. Love the look of tight/ cropped clothing but it looks goofy on me 😅 at the end I just like comfy so much more. When cloths are tight against my skin I can’t tolerate it.
Such great work put into this video. I subed to you after seeing that you did before/after measurements, i want to see what else you cover in your other videos.
They have hemmed the shirts for Carmy, that is why it is a bit shorter. I also believe he used many other brands of t-shirts (Hanes, Supreme, Velva Sheen) on that show. The creator of 'The Bear' Chris Storer talks about it on the Throwing Fits podcast. I like the Velva Sheen shirts better personally!
This show had me wanting to get a 3 pack of white t-shirts from Walmart, only to do more research and realize that the shirt was in fact NOT a Walmart tee. Lol
I love the idea and focus of these T-shirts, but personally, I hate how gaping and wide the collars are! I'm still looking for my perfect tshirt. Also, JAW's T-shirt is additionally tailored for the show. My best tee so far is through James Perse. Soft and yummy. Thanks for the review!
I have a couple of the 215s, including the stripe, and my solid colour one shrank to 1/2" shorter in the hemline than the stripe. No idea why, same washing technique. Perhaps there's something different in the process for the stripe. At any rate, the solid fits significantly better.
Yeah I think you’re spot on there! Something to do with the stipe being knitted out of two colours must be stopping it from shrinking as much - I’m a little bit gutted!
Hi @MrScottWilliams1 Thank you for purchasing our 215 T-shirts and for sharing your experience! You are absolutely correct about the shrinkage being a bit different on the striped T-shirts than the unicolored ones. The reason is that the yarn for the striped version is already pre-dyed when the fabric is loopwheeled, whereas the other fabrics are bleached/dyed post-knitting (except for the Nature and the Grey Melange colorways). In addition, shrinkage can be influenced by many factors during production, such as temperature and humidity levels in the knitting room or if it is a lighter or darker color. Since these GOOD ORIGINAL fabrics are not pre-washed and each T-shirt is unique, the shrinkage might differ slightly. I hope this information is valuable, and we wish you much joy with your T-shirts!
being jacked and on roids probably doesn't answer the fit questions but it can't be understated how much having juiced traps, biceps, and chest changes the way a shirt fits in all dimensions
The only merz inhave is a mediumbweight sweater. Its fine but there are better japanese brands. Inreally studio d'artisan stuff in a similar price range. For the super heavy weight, i go for Ironheart (i have two of their 11oz ones). Wouldnt want a heavier one. As you say they start feelijg like short sleeve sweaters after a while.
While I think the story of the shirt is interesting, you seriously don't need a hundred dollar one of a kind loom t shirt for this look, you can get just as good from a heavy weight plain tee and just working out to fill it in and getting it hemmed/tailored to fit your body perfectly. That's really what it comes down to regarding carmy, it fits his form perfectly. Even a pack of costco tee shirts will look great if you work out and get it tailored to your body.
If he's 5'7 then he is definitely wearing a small. Im 5'7 and his shirt looks like it could fit me perfectly aka a small. But you definitely put me on this tee, and this movie looks super dope! I'm watching it tonight lol
I wish I could wear white tees but I hate the way my nipples poke out through them. I am not fat or anything, have a slim to average build and this doesn't happen with any other colored tees but white.
Hey mate, my research tells me that his cropped tee is actually the Whitesville Japanese Made T-Shirt, not that I can actually find any in stock anywhere that is. Edit: this guy shows it off best and you can how the cut is the exact same as Carmy’s - th-cam.com/video/c_k_jeaA_cY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AC8RWgACsSP2pVsQ
Good research!! He does wear both T-shirts in the series - and we can confirm that the one Jeremy Allen White is wearing in the picture at 0:09 is the 215 T-shirt, only that it has been shortened at the hem by the costume designers 😉 Hope this information is helpful!

Thanks so much! Glad you found it useful and thanks for the sub 😊
Nice t-shirt, btw what denim are you wearing? Looks great
Love your videos man, keep it up 👍
quite fond of Target's goodfellow brand, the one with the pocket, for my go to white shirt, i have like...7 lol
We don’t have Target here unfortunately!
Thank you for confirming! I feel like I should try all the other t shirts now as well haha. Do you have them?
This show had me wanting to get a 3 pack of white t-shirts from Walmart, only to do more research and realize that the shirt was in fact NOT a Walmart tee. Lol
Haha yeah, bit pricier unfortunately!
You might want to consider the Warehouse & co. 4601 shirt. Loopwheel too and amazing quality with a tighter neck :)
@@beyakhad Will do! Thanks.
What are the jeans and boots worn in this video?? That Jean lay is 🔥🔥
I have a couple of the 215s, including the stripe, and my solid colour one shrank to 1/2" shorter in the hemline than the stripe.
Maybe 10 minutes in the dryer?
Hi @MrScottWilliams1
Thank you for purchasing our 215 T-shirts and for sharing your experience!
Yeah you’re right!
Did you try the 214, it's just a little heavier compared to the 215 and it's a two-threads knits it feels softer inside compared to the outside.
if you look at the bottom hem it looks a lot thicker on him compared to stock, i reckon they took it up for sure
Yes definitely! Good observation!
Good choice to go with the black and white. IMO that’s a high price for a white tee that I know will just get stains lol.
Yeah my white tees always get ruined!! Don’t have many striped thing so I’m happy I went with that one!
The simple answer is just that they put the shirt in the dryer on hot. You air dryed it so it did not shrink as much.
Yeah I will try air dryer!
Let's face it most guys that want this tee just want to look as good in it as Carmy does
Haha exactly!
This channel is great. How have i just found it.
Thanks so much, welcome!
Price is silly, but basic plain t shirts will never go out of style
Yeah this is about my limit for a basic tee!
Would love to try Studio D’Artisan and Iron Heart in the future, their stuff looks lovely!
@JamesLeung do it mate. I think jeanstore has some studio d on sale. Ive also picked up the odd piece from Marrkt
That’s for the video. Why would a company sell you a shirt as a medium knowing it will shrink?
If he's 5'7 then he is definitely wearing a small. Im 5'7 and his shirt looks like it could fit me perfectly aka a small. But you definitely put me on this tee, and this movie looks super dope! I'm watching it tonight lol
that second shirt looks good. fit and all. you should have kept it. that fit looks good on you
Thanks man! To be honest it is nice, I just wanted something a little more fitted so I ended up returning it
I am wondering why you didn't just crop the t shirt? Does the loopwheel construction restrict it from being cropped manually?
With shirts this expensive I’d be okay with getting it tailored to be perfect
Yes I agree!
They both look incredible to me, but the first one is 👌
Yes it’s an absolute beauty!
I wish I could wear white tees but I hate the way my nipples poke out through them. I am not fat or anything, have a slim to average build and this doesn't happen with any other colored tees but white.
get a heavy t shirt :)
thank you so much for the detailed review
Thanks for watching 😊
Where are you jeans from tho? absolutely love the colour and fit!
As if the average chef would even think of spending $100 on a t-shirt lol.
Haha I agree 😂
i don't much like the merz b schwanen fit though. carmey's cropped fit was a huge part of what made it so good
Yeah it looks so good on him with that cropped length, he must have had it hemmed!
Awesome video! But where are your jeans from? 👀
I tend to find my t shirts get moved out of rotation by stains and marks etc way before the construction comes under threat
Yeah same to be honest!
bruh, the medium looks great! i actually liked the fit more than the first one
Thanks man, I think I didn’t like it because I wanted a slighter slimmer and shorter fit
Nice research Tom!! Yeah that looks spot on in terms of sizing. I might have to buy one of those now as well just to check it out 😭
The Whitesvilles price is around 90 dollars for a 2pack as show in the video.
Good research!!
He does wear both T-shirts in the series - and we can confirm that the one Jeremy Allen White is wearing in the picture at 0:09 is the 215 T-shirt, only that it has been shortened at the hem by the costume designers 😉
Hope this information is helpful!
@@merzbschwanenvery helpful, thanks for the reply! Sounds like I’ll need to give both t-shirts a try in that case
@@TomDennyY Any time, happy to be of assistance!
the cropping of the t shirt is actually because its not the main one the cropped one is the Whitesville White T
I might have to buy that one and try it out as well!
80s ref...follow the bear.. ...James, have you tried the quality & fits of Arket heavyweight and Dan Simmons Essential Ts ? Both not to shabby. Ironically, tho my best fit bear like t is an old H & M divided tee- size medium. Fit created through t being washed at high temp ( 40 degrees +) and repeatedly tumble dried. I know, not an exact science.
I haven’t tried them but I’d love to some day! Yeah actually my older t shirts fit amazingly now, and I love how they fade with the washing.
@@JamesLeung btw James. Are there any trends or styles you have deliberately swerved? Being only 5 ft 5 cropped stuff is a god send, but anything oversized or straight leg looks so v tragic on me.
I have one. Can confirm it is worth it.
Agreed!
Very good info, thank you 😊
Thanks for watching!
It helps carmy is an absolute beefcake - could make a H&M look fire. But the T shirt does definitely look quality.
Haha true 🤣 I have heard that they shortened the t-shirt for him as well
Loopwheel shirts can be had for about $25. Try Bronson
From my understanding they’re not proper loopwheel, they’re tubular knit. Loopwheel is only done in a few factories around the world. However I’ve heard good things about the Bronson shirts and I’d like to try them!
It doesn't matter if it's a $100 tee, or a walmart $10 tee, you gotta be in shape to look good in it
Straight facts
The actor’s tee shirt was customized. Likely completely deconstructed. Nice video, informative
Yes definitely! Thanks for watching!
The frequency of the cotton is deciding!
Nobody is talking about it😮💨
I don't watch the show but very interesting process...this makes me wanna pick one up and see for myself.
Mind if I ask what is your diet and if you have a work out routine ? I'm the same height as you but I weigh like 70 lbs more lol...
though I think you are a lot younger. I'm trying to lose some weight.
To be honest I don’t follow much of a diet these days. I try to have a decent amount of protein with each meal. I work out 3 times a week mainly callisthenics.
Awesome video, but where are those jeans frommmm?
So wird, watching this and seeing him talking about a company few doors next to my House.❤😂
Cool! Do you get them at a discount? Would love to visit their factory.
I haven't been for a while, but i'll check it out tomorrow, when they're open.I'll get back to you. Last time i bought some stuff it was way cheaper, compared to online.
What's your jeans here? I like the fit , it seems loose in the thigh and slightly taper at knee to hem.
Where is the link to the black/white stripe one shown?
Very informative.👍
Thanks for watching!
id say if you can spend the money for the craftsmanship sure - but i think with the proper fit and body type you can make a hans shirt fit similar- only saying this cause ive done both 😪
Yeah fit is everything 👍
I've got several marz, but Warehouse and Iron Heart are better. Also Studio D art.
lol as someone who works in a kitchen, there’s no way I’d be wearing a £100 t-shirt daily
Hey that 14oz looked good on you!!!
Do you think maybe with more washes the t-shirt shrunk more. Or maybe it was washed at a higher temp for more shrinkage
Yes I think so. As I only did a 20C wash, I’ll try 30C next time. Worst case scenario I might just get it hemmed!
Could you share what that chair is you have? Where you got it
It’s called the G Plan Housemaster!
The shirt looks more cropped on him and not on yours is bc he's jacked. Broader shoulders = higher rise of the hem.
JAW is also ripped, prob in prep as well for that wrestling movie he did with Zac Efron
Very true!
Does Merz B Schwanen ship to the US or no? Wondering how to purchase and try one of these tees if living in the US
They do ship to the US, or they also have several retailers such as Self Edge which carry the majority of their styles!
Hi there ! Unrelated topic but.. what’s the brand of your armchair ? It’s gorgeous !
Hey! It’s a vintage G Plan Housemaster 😊
Thank's for taking the time ! Have a nice week ^^ N.B : Love your work, it's inspiring to see other visions of style and daily wear @@JamesLeung
My go to for boxy tees is Acne. They are pricey.
Yeah Acne do some lovely t shirts!
most of the time for me with white t shirts, is it starting to turn grey or turn yellow, how should I care these white t shirts?
Yeah I find that happens to a lot of my white tees even if I look after them well
Is it tight in the armpits? I run hot so a squeeze there is no go
Yes pretty tight. However I did get it in a smaller size. You might be ok if you size up
