Of course we all have our problems with modern gaming, and those complaints are valid, but I feel like this video perfectly demonstrates that 2024 was a really strong year for video game moments. Certain moments in video games can really elevate the quality of them, I can think of so many instances of me playing a game and maybe I love it, maybe I hate it collectively but the moments always stand out. Gaming needs more moments like these where the developers successfully remember that their product doesn’t need to follow any rules

Seeing a Thargoid Titan die/explode in Elite Dangerous is the most incredible thing I've ever seen in VR, hands down. The scale is incredible, like watching a small moon explode (they are 15 km in diameter so BIG).
Maybe this isn't a recent game anymore, but I'd put the "I'm afraid" scene from Rdr2. Totally unexpected and moving. Also, Arthur Morgan, in particular, was a huge surprise to me. He became my favorite videogame character ever and I was not expecting that going into the game.
Definitely a moment to remember in gaming. I’d argue that the moment in St Dennis when Arthur gets his diagnosis is the first really different moment in the game itself though. Arthur is really alone in that moment & the hallucinations drown out the city…
For me Wukong easily takes the cake for the most amount of "HOLY SH*T" moments. The game just throws so many epic boss encounters and cutscenes at you, I couldn't believe that the game actually lived up to all the hype from 5 years of build up.
I'm happy to be one of the three people who know what you're talking about with "Cryostasis vibes" in the Indiana Jones level. I thought the exact same thing playing that part and it's so cool to see someone else point it out!
I’m a 47-year-old gamer and I’ve played almost every AAA game that has been released on any console and I have to say POE2 the intro to the executioner fight is hands-down the best intro to a Boss fight I ever seen in my years of gaming. I’m not saying the actual fight was but the intro to that fight was the best ever intro for a boss that I’ve ever seen.
Black Myth is such a cool game but they dropped the ball with exploration.... the world and lore has so much potential but it's litterly just a boss fight after boss fight type game...

My favorite recent moment in gaming is when the avatar of myrkul comes out after defeating ketheric in baldurs gate 3, his lines and that cinematic made me shit my pants, nothing in the past few years like it, "I am the regret of those who remain, and the restlessness of those who are gone." Fighting ketheric on honor mode is hard enough and then this f**ker shows up, insane moment
To me, the biggest OH SHIT moment in Shadow of the Erdtree wasn't Metyr, it was Midra. Like, Fingers are creepy but they're not really intimidating. The Frenzied Flame though? That thing was so vile that Marika had a whole clan sealed in a tomb because they *might* have worshipped it. So to see Midra turn into a Frenzied Lord?
