    This song is just perfect! I seriously do not understand why even die hard fans are complaining. In Enslaved's later works such as RIITIIR and In Times, there is just so much more emotion and atmosphere being invoked and it really makes them a landmark band. Great stuff!

    Este disco lo escuche cuando hicimos un viaje al sur de Chile, cerca de la cordillera, me evoca todos esos parajes tan hermosos y bellos del sur de Chile. Por fin los veré en vivo en unas semanas.

    The growling here is perfect dude, it's not meant to be the main focus of the section it's used in.. it's purpose is to add layering and atmosphere.. if you want to hear Grutle do some badass growling listen to The Cromlech Gate off Monumension

    +Eren Sevgi "I will the flames" is essentially saying he moves or controls them, as in usurping control of the fire using the power of his will. I'm guessing you read it like there was a word missing, like i will ___ the flames..
    The prior line is "I can not tolerate being held in the dark, i need to see"
    So he summons, or wills the flames, "expanding light within the cube of darkness"
    Could be a metaphysical meaning or just as possible its an allegory to their past 4 or so albums, being psychedelic/progressive/viking-black, carrying on the torch of Bathory, & the cube of darkness is all the close-minded fans writing them off for having the balls to change a 20-year-old sound

    • @abadalfa
      @abadalfa 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cube of Darkness could really represent the world itself.

    • @Jairon_Junior
      @Jairon_Junior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that was just looking for a meaning for it, since English is not my main language I wasnt understanding it. Translating it would mean as a "I'm going to the flames" lol

    Yeah, they do have a wide variety of sounding albums. I personly like every single one, but that may be down to me liking all the genres each album is influenced by. But even if I didnt like a new release from the band, I would try to get into it because I have struggled with albums before. If I couldnt get into it, I would still stand by the band because they change sound per album, they could release there best album next. So yes, a majority of fans will stick by Opeth

    I don't know whats up with some of you so called "true black metalers" but a band is allowed to evolve beyond your narrow minded expectations. I think you're all less true for holding back black metal to an arbitrary expectation. I love black metal more than any other music form, but I also love to hear new things being done with it. That being said, there's nothing wrong with this at all.

    REFL WOT DE FOCK
    If Opeth were sellouts they would continue doing some preproduced metal albums just for the sake of sell CD'S,wich is a quite good option because they release good material.They have chosen to do what they got out of the balls.

    Change is rather difficult for some people to accept. Either they'll adapt and open themselves up to the vast horizon of music that isn't "true" or they won't and they'll be forever bitter. Sadly, this extends beyond the world of music. :/

  • @canatico8
    @canatico8 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not really. I mean, if you can stand the growls and you like prog, your probably going to enjoy their albums. All of them. I mean, of course they're all different but it's not like one's Pop and the next is Hardcore Rap. The fact that they're all different yet still sound like Opeth makes it that much more entertaining to listen to.

  • @lathandi
    @lathandi 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's actually they opposite. they made a classic rock album AFTER they signed onto roadrunner, which is primarily a heavy and extreme metal label.

  • @andy123456789A
    @andy123456789A 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The answer is no, I assume he means sellout as Opeth's newest album isn't death metal, but I don't see why people think its a sellout because it's not like 70's Prog Jazz rock is a popular genre >.

    No, people who will always stand up for people are people with very wide variety of musical interests or posers. But not fans, it's hard to be an Opeth fan with all the musical changes. I myself like Heritage Blackwater Park Watershed and Damnation, but no other album. I concider Opeth-fans people that like 1 or more Opeth cd's. But it's very hard to like everything they put out.

  • @Daan7000
    @Daan7000 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    But as you said, that's because you like all the genre's they have been influenced by but me, if I don't like one of their albums and can't get into it after listening it once or twice I stop. It's not like I'm going to force myself to like it you know? Because in that case you could make yourself like any album ever made if you listen to it long enough.

    To me it's progressive metal, with a black metal influence. (Enslaved themselves say that, by the way, and Ihsahn said that his new music was just music but that he borrowed a lot of intensity from black metal). To me, calling it black metal is kind of discrediting it.

    If you got into the "black metal" genre expecting to hear the raw stuff, then just buy the early-mid 90's Norwegian albums and be done with it. Stop shitting on good bands like Blut Aus Nord, Abigor, Deathspell Omega, Enslaved, and Winterblut for taking it to new places.

    This is something I will never understand. A band evolves in a different direction, and people start spouting terms they barely understand like poseur and sellout. If you don't like it, don't bitch about it. If you don't like it, you don't even really have any place in talking about it. Simple.

    • @ReynardVoss
      @ReynardVoss 9 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      +Flugmorph That's "will" as in "the act, process, or experience of willing". Not "will" as in "used to express futurity"

    • @RevanAdler
      @RevanAdler 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Flugmorph Will = desire. It's to say "I desire the flames", where flames usually represent knowledge, which, as fire, sheds light but can burn. Basically this is a song about the cave myth.

    • @cooliocaptin517

      I'm not a native English speaker but could it be as in "I command the flames"? Like saying " the flames are attached to my will and I command them"

  • @TracerVision
    @TracerVision 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That being said, is this an example of new things being done with Black Metal? Fuck no! If Enslaved hadn't been a BM band before this, this conversation wouldn't be happening. There is no BM left in their sound. That's not a bad thing whatsoever though. What they've become is brilliant and unique all on its own. It's sad that a band's past is often such an impediment to true, musically justified progression.
