I used to walk my dog (a lovely Siberian Husky) through the woods and beach while listening to this song. Now... I just walk while listening to this. I miss that dog so much...
Thank you Enslaved.
It sucks, doesn’t it? I’ve been through that myself recently and it’s just one of the most miserable experiences in the world.
:(
T__T
Even in the end, dogs are great master's, they show us so many lessons!
Maybe you'll meet your dog again, but in Valhalla's halls.
Discovered Enslaved when part of this song was played in the Extreme Metal episode of Metal Evolution. Their release this year is really good. Great band.
Same X)
Same here actually! I love the series too.
Same ! i'm excited to add it to my itunes library and listen to every song 8D
yup, I'd forgotten about Enslaved until that metal evolution episode. cracking song.
fantastic documentary, fantastic song
This song still brings a tear to my eye, even after all these years
That clean vocalist is incredible
i love how some black metal bands like these could prove you don't need to be playing a million notes and shit to be brutal. sometimes a good melody and atmosphere is harder to achieve. why did i only listen to these guys now?!
I feel sorry for people who have not felt this emotion. It is not a song. Pure emotion. I love this band from front to back. Always moving forward, never back
Herbrand Larsen was always my favorite part of Enslaved. His vocals brought so much to the table in terms of atmosphere and emotion. Was very sad when he left the band but Håkon is an excellent successor! Love "E" and the two new tracks from the new album. Herbrand and Cato will be missed dearly
I work in the same company as Herbrand now. Had a few drinks with him last night. Great guy
@@nicklennox311yes he is a great guy, had a few beers with him myself. He is from my hometown(Nesbyen) so knew him as a little kid.
Such a powerful song. He is right "Extreme Metal is about emotion" and this song captures it all.
this literally made me tear up. idky. I just felt comfort and rage at the same time. this fkn song is beautiful in every way a metal song can be. fkn amazing
Same way the first time I heard this song, too.
the emotions this song strikes up is almost overwhelming
Same
Darkness...
Fear...
Life...
Cold...
Left alone with no will
Walking in footsteps of the fallen
Blinded by lack of reason
Indulging the tales of doom
"Farewell
May the darkness bind them
No one will
Remember the pain when we are...gone..."
Desolate...
Unconscious...
Lost...
Where lies the ones I've slain?
Did I become any wiser?
Will their anger hunt me down?
Did I sacrifice in vain?
"Farewell
Hear the sound of solitude
No one will
Walk the bridge, to darkness overcome"
Settlement...
Trust...
Relief...
Dawn...
Guide me, watcher in the skies
Transform the forces of the dead
In my dreams I'll hunt them down
I now know the truth
ty!
man, this is so fucking beautiful
Remember pain when we are gone
Gives me the chills
Thank You
I don't know if it's the best chorus of all time. But that's what makes me shiver every time I listen to it.
This is such a beautiful song, I remember when I first discovered Enslaved, it opened wide the gates into Black metal and much more...
+Loki Laufeyson arcturus opened the gates to black metal for me, check out their sham mirrors album if you haven't. enslaved is my favorite band nowadays.
They're not really black metal anymore. Their message is powerful and hopeful. They're epic metal.
@@MT-sk1lnThey are Viking Metal that is why they are not your typical Black Metal like Krypt or Mayhem.
@@thehalloweenheavymetalwarrior define sound of viking metal.Enslaved is just typical black metal band with Viking lyrics lol,at least they used to be.
" did I become any wiser? ",,," did I sacrifice in vain? ".,,,,I was once part of a military, once fought a war, I ask myself those questions daily.
such a deep question
Randall Tyer serving your motherland is never in vain...
You're right and You're very close to your release from a propaganda you ate! Add one more question to your self : "Did I realy served my country? Or I served a small group of the richest people who rule planet for their own perposes, companies - banks - politicians - and their materialism and their interests - N.W.O?
@@vedicmetalhead1029 HI! Are you so sure that you or him, serve your countries /country? And not serve just a small group of richest people who care only for them selflessness and their own proposes? @@vedicmetalhead1029 If we all serve our countries for real yes its good and it's an obligation to defend our selves... And gain back our lost lands which alien forces conquered in past times! Most countries participate to wars for money companies nwo and /or to destroy historical evidens! If you search for maps of military attacks of NATO or USA alone, and see the points of battles or bombardings in a map and search for a map with points locations of oil and minerals or archeological points of new or old excavations you'll see the truth and the true plans of those battles! And the reasons of wars! They "them" want to conquer areas so to grab land's wealth! Or /and want to destroy historical artifacts monuments archeological areas so to delete historical truth! That keyboardist has a phenomenal singing voice! I love this stuff!
That is Herbrand Larsen for you.
@@thehalloweenheavymetalwarriorHe is a real Halling😁
First time enjoying a song created by an extreme/black metal band. I thought I would never see the day. Love it when artists push the boundaries and come up with something fresh. This is awesome.
Жуткая прелесть👍 Поднимает мне настроение Спасибо большое 👍👍👍👍👍
Same here
The clean vocals haunt my dreams.
Man..this song is so powerful. Saw these guys about 6 yrs ago. Little bit for everybody with this band. Progressive, black, and just down right metal.
the 240p REALLY brings the nostalgia back on this one. Such a timeless song.
2008? Where the hell has that time gone.
I remember checking the mail every day waiting for my CD to arrive. I still blast it in my car!
Mark Gorney you do what to your carl
アダムアダミ Listen to the album loudly... Haha
It went down the fucking drain
makes you think about life
this is one of the songs that basically introduced me to black metal in a more passionate way
I deeply regret having missed seeing Enslaved and Opeth play together in my town. By all accounts, it was a breathtaking show.
That gut on keyboard is my old music teacher..his name is herbrann❤️😂
Ole Berntsen Must've been a great teacher
That gut doe
This is nothing new nocturno culto is also teacher
me too, he was an angel
I miss him so much. His voice made Enslaved sound even more soulful than it already is.
Finally had the pleasure of seeing Enslaved live. I didn't think it was humanly possible to love this band even more than I did before.
I don't know why but sometimes this song makes me cry from inside
it makes me cry from the outside :')
I love the ambient sound that the keyboard adds to every song. Even with his voice, it just defines the song. It's like a chorus of morality.
Metal Evolution Extreme Metal brought me here and I"m so glad it did. This band is awesome.
Just re-discovered Enslaved with this incredible riff. Love it.
Sam Dunn gets it right again! This song is definitely one of Enslaved's best.
This guy's vocals are awesome. I wish I could sound like that.
Epic overload! \m/
Saw these guys in Norfolk, VA a couple days ago, totally awesome band.
I as well :D
Both of their singer have amazing voices, this song is amazing and i think its just amazingly made.
Enslaved the best band I've heard in all the bands I've heard black hope hereinafter more people supporting bands such good how are you, the watcher beautiful song.
3:27 it looks like a tear, and even if it isn't, that growl was pure emotion....
This band only continues to blow me away. Easily one of the most important bands in modern music. Hails from the northwest.
this song is a Masterpiece!
love enslaved!
i still own three of their album
this band is incredible, one of the best bands from Norway
+Onslaught Quinn Atleast this song sounds a bit like In Vain. Weren't those guys from norway too? they rule
Norway got so many good metal bands,it'll be hard to determine which ones the best really!
Enslaved has been played in my car ever since, let me think... since I´ve had a car.
how long u have ur car?
ye im just kiddng :D
@@ArnoLindner Shut the fuck up please
X2
@@ArnoLindner Since 1990. Not the same car, they tend to get old.
johan hegg mentions enslaved on loudwire -> gonna check it out -> enjoy some great music
This is one of the best songs Enslaved has ever done. I hope they do it on their tour with Opeth, it would make a great set closer.
Is it just me, or is this song more about the emotions it gives you rather than the lyrics?
Yeah. I'm alot more into how the song and instrumental gonna sound rather than the lyrics.
I always place the feelings that I get with the instrumental part of every song I listen to over the lyrics. For me the lyrics are mostly secondary in music. But of course I'm talking about my own perception of music. Anyway, I also think this song in particular is very beautiful instrumentally.
Definitely!!!!!!!
Kenneth Clark metal has always been like that for me. Why i still listen even though i don't enjoy most of it.
To me it has to be balanced. If the music is good but the lyrics are bad I just can't take it serious enough.
perfect growling and amazing lyrics >_< enslaved is awesome
I felt the "6 years ago"😔
@@larsswig912 ahhh time passed so fast. I still listen to enslaved
@@caramelgirl4780 This is the first song I've heard by them, which was today
This band is awesome.
Yes !🤘🖤
im not a huge black metal fan, but damn vertebrae is just fucking amazing and flawless... its a beautiful album start to finish.
the guitar solo on Ground sounds and feels like pink floyd, fucking love it!!
Can't wait to see them with Amon Amarth and skeletonwitch
Skulldiamond 94 Where was that? When I saw that lineup it was with Sabaton.
Damn I love this band!!
I'v elistened to this song for the past 15 hours.....covered this vocally and with my guitar. I LOVE THIS SONG!
This Power, Amazing Song, WOW
It's honestly fascinating how Enslaved makes the most accessible and-can I say "poppy"-black metal records. They're so good.
00:42
Whoops.. Seems like there was not enough green screen left :-D
Very very VERY great band!! The lyrics of this song take my breath away!! Simply amazing! Left alone with no will!!!! WELL SAID!
I was listening to some black metal on Spotify and this song started play as a recommendation and I just fell in love with it and it’s now on that playlist
me too
I am astonished that some ignorant people claim that metal music is senseless and tasteless…this track is a beautiful emotional ode…can work perfectly as a break up song 😂
this song is so beautiful😍
Yes !❤👍
Thank you for giving me strength.
So beautiful
Lord Tourette
We are not talking about society or music, we are talking about the Bible and how God is shown.
A God that can "do anything he wants with people because he created them", like you said, is the personification of a childish behaviour. It is the determination of irresponsibility, immaturity, inconsequence, and so on. A person, flawed, can do that. A perfect God cannot. A perfect God does not commit mistakes, act selfishly or any other. That is not a true God. That's a God I turn from.
that intro is so epic
This music, this band, are so... Perfect...
why pop wen we have this🍺
Krokkofant OW I don't know...🤔
Who the fuck listenes to pop here?
Your mum, BOUM , punchline ! best "your mum" insult for a metalhead.
Krokkofant OW scolt
Primus sucks
This song is fantastic, Enslaved is one of the best prog bands (in this case Progressive Black Metal) of all time 🤘.
Never knew TheAmazingAtheist was so good at guitar.
I listen to metal for 20 years but I didn't know Enslaved. This song is dark, beautifull and powerfull and the video is also that way !
love this song
I saw them live in Berlin on the Tour for this record in 2008, along with Audrey Horne. Great memories.
Heard this song at a party once.
Glade I found it.
Dude, I want to go to your parties haha
metaldrummer185
That was years ago.
Everyone has moved on, no more badass metal parties with hot metal chicks.:(
Womp Womp.
Vertebrae is such an amazing record can’t wait to see them live here in Mexico City
hermoso Black Metal progresivo, gran banda.
the sound quality on this makes this song sound like 1/4 as good as it really does.
impossible to not like this song
Is very possible
The song which got me in to this band and i've been a big fan since.
This is legitimately beautiful and epic sounding music.
damn those riffs are nice
The harmonies in this song are amazing
Eh? 1,148,371 views? Is it only counting the times I've listened to this or something?
You, sir defined the true meaning of the folk/viking metal genre. I couldn't do better myself. It was a pleasure to read your comment ;)
yesss
Such a brilliant band.
I'm already missing Herbrand Larsen.
they were harsh for me at first too. in time though they've grown to be my favorite band. don't be too put off by the growl, it's like any medium in art- a method used for communication. if you've felt the music you're well on your way ^.^
they have some great instrumentals as well, but have you heard "As Fire Swept Clean the Earth"? i find it one of their most beautiful songs. harsh vocals, yes, but so much more..
reply button raped. just love the clean vocals
replay*
clean vocal sounds really mesmerizing doesnt it
+Ian Bach (Razorface) very mesmerising in songs which has the heavy vocals.
+Ian Bach (Razorface) can you suggest a few songs like this one?
abyssphere - again and again, insomnium - while we sleep, paradise lost - frailty, evadne - one last dress for one last journey, when nothing remains - i forgive you, officium triste - my charcoal heart, agalloch - you were but a ghost
here are some that came into my mind, hope this helps
Well, I can believe Metal Evolution extreme metal brought me here in 2020 and now I'm loving this song 12 years later 😍😋
Oh Yes....
they just keep getting better and betterer
Muito bom.. curto muito essa fase mais trabalhada, puxada pra tematica e contexto ideologico Viking do Enslaved
I have a term to express how I feel about Enslaved, since I've been listening to them since 94... They are musically WISE!!!! Enslaved is not for kids or beginners... Wisdom, this is what lies within them...
metal evolution brought me here
What an honour of yours!!!!!!! :-)
this type of music brings a smile to my face
is it me or does he sound like golem from lord of the rings!?!
I can’t stop listening to this amazing song 🤟🤟
Thank ODIN im Norwegian!
This is one of Enslaved s best song s and one of my favorite s
Me hearing this for the first time...
I actually love the clean vocals in this song, really add a great touch to it.
The Norwegian Black Metal Cousin of Amon Amarth? haha!
***** Dude enslaved is way older than Amon Amarth...
theodore tait Nope. Amon Amarth was gonna be a grindcore band in 1988. They released a few demos and an EP in 1992 called Thor Arise. Their first album was in 1998.
They didn't do much in the 90s though, that's true. But they did exist. Enslaved on the other hand formed in 1991 and released their first two albums in 1994, Vikingr Veldi and Frost.
+Theodore Tate
Just because somebody is older doesn't mean they can't be your cousin still
Rögnirgοden Honestly, I would've preffered if Amon Amarth was a grindcore band.
@@ValknutGaming bullshit dude, first demo by Amon Amarth was un 93, AND first demo by enslaved was in 91, besides by 98 , date of First lp by amon, enslaved had already put out 4 albums, so please man.
this has got to be one of the more refreshing and innovative black metal bands to date
Singing bits remind me of Ozzy osborne.
***** HaHa! Hit the nail on the head!
***** haha lke Ozzy needs that ...
i found Enslaced this year 2018 and its best in many years. So much to listen.
Progressive Black Metal?
don't put a tag on it ;) Just call it Enslaved.
Viking Black Metal
Mark Reikoo You're stupid! There is no "viking" genre! It's just the fucking lyrics theme! How about we start calling Sodom "Vietnam War Thrash Metal" or Nile "Egyptian Death Metal"
romaniahasmetal no need to call anyone stupid man,
Folk pagan black metal
The most wise thing ive read in a youtube comment. Enslaved are fucking masters.. Every album is pure fucking gold and presses through the boundries of music.
Great music, great chorus, but can't stand the growling/screaming. Other than they vocals, they are bit like Nevermore on first impressions.
Nopi Rove Sorry but there is lots of metal without growling or screaming. Just because he doesn't like growling or screaming, doesn't mean he can't like metal.
Nopi Rove
I've never read so much wrong in one comment. Growling and screaming are very recent additions to what you believe to be heavy metal and your comment clearly shows an over all lack of knowledge of heavy metal and where it's come from. I'm guessing you're barely 20.
Nopi Rove
you're a special kind of stupid aren't you? the growls don't make something metal... hence why shitastic bands like suicide silence, emmure, hatebreed, and their ilk aren't considered metal.
*****
I've seen all the documentaries, I'm familiar with the history.
You make a week point about Lemmy and Kronos. At least you could understand them for the better part.
Growls and screams are fine, but when used to convey words, they don't do much justice for the guys writing the lyrics. And the earlier bands vocalist's rough voices you mention are a far cry from the inaudible noise its turned into, only being able to recognise a word or two here and there.
At no point have I said it wasn't metal or that it wasn't part of. You still have a lot to hear if you think it's as big as you do.
This band uses Screaming and Growling vocals, so that you dont like it, change to another band then instead of complaining, you wont get any mutch longer with complaining on this band. Its right that there is metal bands who only use clean vocals, but there is allso metal bands who uses Screams and growls like the heavier generes like Death Metal and Black Metal in that case, or Slam Metal. But it is up to each band to figure what type of vocals they wish to do.
Over a million hits now. Fantastic!
