Posted elsewhere, also: I see (especially TV) ads all the time about certain cars (Toyota is one of them) being driven, and the owners smiling and looking all happy with their new car, and I'm always thinking, "Wait until your evaporator starts leaking. It's going to wipe that smile RIGHT off of your face". Best reason of all NOT to buy certain vehicles. Do your homework. Auto design and engineering these days has gone completely crazy because there's one person over here in Europe designing the heater core on his/her CAD, another over here in Cali, designing the actuator designs on his/her CAD, and yet another over here in Asia, designing the blower unit on their CAD. None of them have ever met, been in an actual design lab together, or picked up a wrench to repair anything in their lives. Hence... what you've got in this video. No, it's not just about the manufacturer wanting you to return to the dealer. It's just the way things are done in 2019. One thing you always see though is, if these type of repairs continuously fall during the warranty period (where the manufacturer has to pay for it), the very next year, there is a simple flap you open to get the thing out, fast and easy! Sad. Sorry for the edits, but if you're going to do this for the expansion valve, please just replace the evaporator and heater core while you're in there. Foolish not to.
