Probably the "deepest" lyrics ever written for a Bond movie theme. Quote from Wikipedia: Cornell thought it was a strange offer, considering that he is American, and imagined that he would perform a secondary song in the film instead of the main theme. Cornell declared he liked the Bond movies, particularly the ones with Sean Connery, but that he "wasn't really a big fan of the last several movies". But Daniel Craig's casting as James Bond intrigued the musician, and he decided to accept the job. Cornell then went to Prague to visit the film's shooting, and was much impressed with the film's emotional content after he was shown a rough cut of Casino Royale. In Prague he also met the score composer, David Arnold, who suggested writing a song "that echoed the film score". The composers started their writing separately, Cornell in his apartment in Paris, and Arnold in his house in London. Cornell stated that he had some difficulties with composing: "It is difficult, I think, to write lyrics for a character, so really I just kind of wandered around for about a month not thinking about it too much, until I sort of formulated some idea of a way that I could approach it, where I'm kind of relating to what's in the character in the movie. And because this particular Bond is very edgy, but also has a lot of emotional depth, it's a lot easier."Later the two musicians met and showed each other's ideas, and according to Arnold "it was almost like we wrote two parts of the same song."Cornell wrote lyrics, to which Arnold added some lines and later music. Some of Arnold's ideas included the song's title, the heavy introduction, and "having the same genetic material as the Bond theme, but in a different order and in a different shape".
There will be no Bond theme more accurate and excellently performed like this one. The lyrics and melody can only be compared to Paul McCartney's Live and Let Die, which in itself is an unbeatable classic.
I've seen this be low on a lot of bond song lists by critics. I think it's one of the best and people just hating because it is a significant shift like Casino Royale was from the norm which was obviously the right move for the franchise.
I wasn't huge fan of Bond movies.. but this movie was spot on! Daniel Craig kills it as Bond, and the whole movie is awesome. This song is perfect intro too.
+supastar It actually dragged out a bit, towards the end. It was the first Bond movie to exceed 2 hours, and it certainly FELT long. I do like its Bond a lot, but the sometimes slow pacing keeps it from being more than a merely very good movie.
Michael Welsh Possibly Gary Numan's '90s albums "Exile" and "Pure" qualify? The songs are electronic in nature, but multi-layered in arrangement, much like orchesteral music.
I'm sorry. It seems that it is written , my four-year- daughter, who has been actively develops youtube. I guess that what she was looking for the cartoon " Barboskiny "
I took this as a complete reeboot of the Brosnan era. I loved it. I know this song by heart. I however was surprised about the White/Keys duet. I adore that jam too. I was sure they'd keep the rock influence. But then we got 3 ballads. Powerful vocals, don't get me wrong, but Sam and Billie just copy pasted Adele tbh
Sean Connery is best actor IMO, and best movie and girl can be found in Live and Let die, as well as the best boss. As far opening goes, I'd have to agree UNTIL I saw the Spectre opening. But yeah, I think this theme beats Skyfall with a small margin.
I agree ... the animation was a much-needed update. With all due respect to the late, great Maurice Binder, his intros are now as dated as eight-track players, pet rocks, and lava lamps.
I don’t understand why they have to keep pushing out the slow and sad theme songs for this franchise. Give me a good ol rock ballad like this one and get me hyped for what I’m going to see. Hell! Include a boss theme song on the pre-credit action sequence. They’re making him way too melancholic with these
Well my guess is that it goes with the recent story line that time and what not is catching up to bond. Therefore it’s more sad and reflective than high impact and high energy
Times have changed a lot, and it was about time for the character to change as well. It may be trivial, but the shaken, not stirred line has always made Bond feel like a pissy bitch to me. A Karen who will send a drink back if he doesn't like how its prepared. But Bond as written by Fleming was a "gentleman," an aristocrat who displayed his status in ways particular to his culture. None of the actors have really played him in quite that way and that's for the best, British aristocrats are usually villains for good reason, they are very punchable.
This gets in top 5 of my James Bond songs, while its the best James Bond movie I know still. Skyfall has the best James Bond theme, followed by golden gun, license to kill, living daylights and then comes this one, that is preatty good as James Bond theme overall.
Two reasons: #1 It's from British film and Oscars are awarded to American movies (except foreign film) #2 James Bond and such crude franchise DOES NOT DESERVE ARTISTIC OSCARS
@@vksasdgaming9472 maybe it’s because skyfall was amazing also to you saying the academy doesn’t award British films 1917 won multiple awards last year and that’s British.
Well of course, it's only natural that the best Bond movie would have the best theme. I say that, but I can never decide whether I prefer this movie or GoldenEye. Both awesome films with awesome themes.
naxo I just watched Quantum again for the first time since theaters and it's a great film, it's just disappointing coming off of the masterpiece of Casino Royale
This is not only the greatest Bond theme ever written, but perhaps one of the greatest songs ever written for a film. A lot of the other themes are written either about the villain themselves (and some of these are awesome btw), or just anything. All they need is just to have the title of the movie in them. Not that there aren't other great ones, but this speaks to the character of James Bond himself.
@@Theruler091I like to imagine it's a conversation between them. Like in the chorus, M says, "You can't deny the prize: it may never fulfill you, it longs to kill you, are you willing to die?" Then Bond responds with, "The coldest blood runs through my veins, you know my name."
I'm a massive Roger Moore fan but I'll easily concede that Casino Royale is the best if not one of the very best Bonds. Absolute kick ass theme song and the gunbarrel intro in the toilets just blew me away
@@danlugo4365 My top list (for now) 1. Goldfinger 2. Goldeneye 3. Casino Royale (Casino was Craig's only great Bond film IMO, and I think Skyfall is way overrated). 4. License to Kill (Timothy Dalton wasn't bad as a Bond, and this movie is one of the best in the franchise. It expands on Majesty's Secret service and Felix Lighter's friendship. 5. On her Majesty's Secret Service 6. The Spy Who Loved Me or maybe Octopussy? (Roger Moore was my least favorite Bond below Craig, would love to hear from a Roger Moore fan what their favorite Bond film of his is, but Casino blows all of Moore's films out of the water imo) 7. Never Say Never Again: I don't really care what the Bond community says I like this one better than Thunderball. Thunderball is so boring despite being shorter in length than NSNA. Better editing and some of the most fun sequences in the filmography. I could easily flip on this one for From Russia with Love though.
RIP Chris Cornell - interesting trivia: This is the first time an American male sang the open credits theme to a James Bond movie. This opening sequence is vastly superior to the "actual" music video for the song. EDIT: All the Time in the World by Louis Armstrong is NOT an opening credits song, so my statement is correct. And I said American MALE, so stop pointing out American women who've sang them.
This song represent the real bond, Adrenaline, action etc. Skyfall and writing on the walls are good songs but You know my name is the best sountrack to 007 :)
Luis Guerrero When I think back to that night, I feel like crying because all the fans and media were saying Craig is too ugly and is going to destroy the whole series after this movie. His fans were cheering because they wanted to give him a chance. And he proved every naysayer wrong.
I was surprised when i read a Rolling Stone article about Bond songs that this song counted as one of the worst. For my opinion "You know my name" is a powerful songs which describes the right character of James Bond in our days. Also i believe that the late Chris Cornel gave one of the best performances for a Bond song. Unforgetable.
We seem to forget the version played in the movie is edited from the original which was saddled with a bridge that was oddly out of place. There seems to be problem with all the Bond theme songs post John Barry where the writers and composer cannot just get to the fucking point.

There will be no Bond theme more accurate and excellently performed like this one. The lyrics and melody can only be compared to Paul McCartney's Live and Let Die, which in itself is an unbeatable classic.
Love it! "I here am JW Peppa of the Louisiana State police."
Hi I recommend A new Bond theme song called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
@@redskies4530 bring it on!
Live n let due was a bond song ?
@@bironjames9948Yea. It’s literally the title of one of the movies
+Igor19485 that's because it's just a great movie period...never mind a great Bond film. It excels on all levels.
Aside from your first sentence, I 100% agree!
I didn't know so many enjoyed Craig
Agreed!
+supastar It actually dragged out a bit, towards the end. It was the first Bond movie to exceed 2 hours, and it certainly FELT long.
I do like its Bond a lot, but the sometimes slow pacing keeps it from being more than a merely very good movie.
RIP Chris Cornell. Best bond theme song ever!
RIP legend
100%
My Favorite movie..Bond is a Beast!
I honestly believe this belongs in the top 5 bond themes
I think it’s the best Bond song of all time.
Two Words - Eva Green...........Best Bond Girl Ever
Amen
Brian Williams Yes Man.. i thought i was the only one thinking that!
U should c her in the new horror series penny dreadful... if like that sort of thing
I watch Penny Dreadful. Very Entertaining
Brian Williams Meh...
Seriously, with music as awesome as this, why is orchestral rock not a major thing outside of Bond intros?
Michael Welsh Possibly Gary Numan's '90s albums "Exile" and "Pure" qualify? The songs are electronic in nature, but multi-layered in arrangement, much like orchesteral music.

Janna Pismennaya Hi, Janna, I understand a little Russian, but not sure what you mean with the "Br"

Daniel Craig era is THE modern Bond era. The next Bond has some big shoes to fit. 🤵🏻

Notorious CAT Yes!!
nothing can be more beautiful then Eva Green if you don't believe me you'll just have to watch Penny Dreadful......
Without a doubt, the best Theme song of the "Craig Era" and argubably one of the best bond themes overall!
Billie's song is pretty damn sick
Best Song and best film.
@@jayu9642 its garbage, they ruin the intro of the movie and in a james bond movie that its a terrible thing to do
I took this as a complete reeboot of the Brosnan era. I loved it. I know this song by heart. I however was surprised about the White/Keys duet. I adore that jam too. I was sure they'd keep the rock influence. But then we got 3 ballads. Powerful vocals, don't get me wrong, but Sam and Billie just copy pasted Adele tbh
Agreed
Anddddd BANG!!! If you weren’t immediately blown away, reassured and in awe within a title song for truly world class opening, you never will be.
This isn't just one of the best bond songs, it's a amazing song in its own right.... passion, lyrics, rifts, and brutal drop beat... crazy good track!
Best James Bond Actor
Best James Bond Movie
Best James Bond Girl
Best James Bond Opening
Best James Bond Theme...
AND first james bond in timeline
not the best actor or best film or best Bond girl but the rest yeah
Pete Zahut ummmmmm not best James Bond actor lol
Sean Connery is best actor IMO, and best movie and girl can be found in Live and Let die, as well as the best boss.
As far opening goes, I'd have to agree UNTIL I saw the Spectre opening. But yeah, I think this theme beats Skyfall with a small margin.
CellGames2006 best bond actor is Daniel Craig but I agree with the rest
Possibly the best Bond song ever. RIP Cornell

The Italian Snob I agree

In 2024, for its now the Best James Bond Theme
The best James Bond song ever
My favorite 007 intro (Song and animation)
I agree ... the animation was a much-needed update.
With all due respect to the late, great Maurice Binder, his intros are now as dated as eight-track players, pet rocks, and lava lamps.
true this has to be one of the top ones apart from skyfall and by the way like your Joker pic
True.

G Kroll No, where does he even sing that?

Sometimes, scrolling through Netflix to see if anything good has shown up, I will play the first part of Casino Royale just for this opening.
Any one else think the opening graphics are the best ever?
Not a naked woman in sight. Just the animators and producers living the moment.
Yup
underrated comment!
Haha
I believe it’s one of two bond intros to not have the silhouette of a naked woman in it.
@@teogonzalez7957 The first one was the intro for Dr. No, I believe, and that one was very primitive. This into is truly one of a kind.

Adele and Chris Cornell(R.I.P.)... One of the best Bond themes
RIP Chris. This is a legendary Song.
In my opinion this is the best 007 movie, one of the best theme songs, and the best title sequence
Taner Ozbel I agree on the title sequence, but I personally enjoy Skyfall a little more. But not much. :)
Taner Ozbel This movie is as good as Goldfinger.
+Taner Ozbel i prefer skyfall as an overall movie but this is the best song
+Taner Ozbel I feel like you've never seen any other bond movies lol.
I agree with you. Spectre has to exceed our spectations. Will this movie be based on the novel "OHMSS" by Ian Fleming?
I don’t understand why they have to keep pushing out the slow and sad theme songs for this franchise. Give me a good ol rock ballad like this one and get me hyped for what I’m going to see. Hell! Include a boss theme song on the pre-credit action sequence. They’re making him way too melancholic with these
Jose Ruiz Exactly your 100% right
Well my guess is that it goes with the recent story line that time and what not is catching up to bond. Therefore it’s more sad and reflective than high impact and high energy
That’s what they went with this James Bond, more emotional and inexperienced.
But I think this types of songs for James Bond movies are perfect.
This song catches the spirit of James bond
Agree!
This movie gave its own spin on Bond and didn't appologize for it, amazing.
"Shaken or stirred?"
"Does it look like I give a damn?"
Chris Cornell, David Arnold, Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig. Nothing could go wrong.
The most underrated Bond song ever.
Lucy Smith Not underrated in the slightest. It's highly rated, right up there with Goldfinger.
because its not that good.
square shield Okay big man, what is?
Completely agree. My favorite by far.
And one of the most underrated Bond movies...but I loved it
Hands down, one of the best James Bond intro songs ever, and also my favorite. RIP Chris Cornell.
It's the best Daniel Craig's Bond intro song, better than Skyfall
Hi I recommend A new Bond theme song called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
well said
This gets in top 5 of my James Bond songs, while its the best James Bond movie I know still. Skyfall has the best James Bond theme, followed by golden gun, license to kill, living daylights and then comes this one, that is preatty good as James Bond theme overall.
No...@@hta5172
Best Bond song.
I still don't understand how this wasn't nominated for an Oscar!
Two reasons:
#1 It's from British film and Oscars are awarded to American movies (except foreign film)
#2 James Bond and such crude franchise DOES NOT DESERVE ARTISTIC OSCARS
@@vksasdgaming9472 then why did sky fall win best song at the oscars?
@@decderbyshire1145 I guess they got bored of maintaining their high standards. Whatever they might be.
@@vksasdgaming9472 maybe it’s because skyfall was amazing also to you saying the academy doesn’t award British films 1917 won multiple awards last year and that’s British.

This to me is the best James Bond theme, I really like this song.
Well of course, it's only natural that the best Bond movie would have the best theme.
I say that, but I can never decide whether I prefer this movie or GoldenEye. Both awesome films with awesome themes.
+Althalus2010 This is a Realistic Film GoldenEye was good but it wasn't as Grabbing it was a film that made you want to turn your Brain off
bond uses defibrillator to defibrillate himself.... realism? lol you are so dumb
Well he doesn't actually mange too does he. He was saved by the girl. So in that sense it was ok.
Rob Willis oh yes
Best song of the Craig era. Best video of the Craig era. Best film of the Craig era.
best bond song imo

You aren't :D
I thought I was the only one😂
You're not the only one
We are a collective!
Nope...:)
Casino Royale and Skyfall were amazing, here's to Spectre with Casino Royale's "You Know My Name"
The Top Comment King anything but Quantum right?
naxo I just watched Quantum again for the first time since theaters and it's a great film, it's just disappointing coming off of the masterpiece of Casino Royale
+Daniel McCarthy It had production troubles because of the writers strike. I think it turned out reasonably well considering the issues it faced.
+naxo the Madonna one on Die Another Day was the worst
+omyyer As far as I'm concerned, that film never existed.
Or M I always thought the song was M to bond
@@Theruler091I like to imagine it's a conversation between them. Like in the chorus, M says, "You can't deny the prize: it may never fulfill you, it longs to kill you, are you willing to die?" Then Bond responds with, "The coldest blood runs through my veins, you know my name."
Vesper Lynd is Queen of Heart. So meaning... 🥺
Casino Royale really was the best Bond movie imo
I'm a massive Roger Moore fan but I'll easily concede that Casino Royale is the best if not one of the very best Bonds. Absolute kick ass theme song and the gunbarrel intro in the toilets just blew me away
Agreed it was my favorite everything about it was like an actual spy mission unlike all the unrealistic shit we’ve seen
No SKYFALL is
@@kaylo1108 imo means in my opinion
@@danlugo4365 My top list (for now)
1. Goldfinger
2. Goldeneye
5. On her Majesty's Secret Service
6. The Spy Who Loved Me or maybe Octopussy? (Roger Moore was my least favorite Bond below Craig, would love to hear from a Roger Moore fan what their favorite Bond film of his is, but Casino blows all of Moore's films out of the water imo)
7. Never Say Never Again: I don't really care what the Bond community says I like this one better than Thunderball. Thunderball is so boring despite being shorter in length than NSNA. Better editing and some of the most fun sequences in the filmography. I could easily flip on this one for From Russia with Love though.
Here after seeing No Time to Die, had to come back to this classic.

Idris Elba didnt play bond but he played Solomon Reed in Cyberpunk 2077
Anyone april 2024 and still hear this??
RIP Chris Cornell - interesting trivia: This is the first time an American male sang the open credits theme to a James Bond movie.
This opening sequence is vastly superior to the "actual" music video for the song.
EDIT: All the Time in the World by Louis Armstrong is NOT an opening credits song, so my statement is correct. And I said American MALE, so stop pointing out American women who've sang them.

sachin bhat yes! :)
I remember watching this on opening night. When Daniel Craig's face appeared on the screen, the whole theatre was cheering and clapping.
eugene680 He did a great Job like James Bond.
Proving once again that Rolling Stone is tone deaf.
Rolling stone is fake
The first mistake was reading anything from Rolling Stone.
Rolling Stone is also the rag that panned Led Zeppelin upon the release of their first album...🤣
We seem to forget the version played in the movie is edited from the original which was saddled with a bridge that was oddly out of place. There seems to be problem with all the Bond theme songs post John Barry where the writers and composer cannot just get to the fucking point.
