I just soldered the wires at the pre-amp input. So it works with ipod or other audio devices.

Sound on 3.5 m is low compared to 30 pin ipod.

That's because the ipod doesn't have the same output power on the 3.5mm as it does on the 30pin.
The idea here was to use the speaker with other devices not just the ipod.
