Lots of people think he says "to LEAVE you, I've got to close my eyes." He says, "to BELIEVE in you, I got to close my eyes." --- also makes more sense in context of the song.

Ray gave Sawyer this song. Ray had written it years ago and performed it often..but it was never "released."

His last album wasn't in 2008. Check Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs. He came out with an album with them in 2010. He also released an album in 2014.
