I never really realized how many different things I do when I wall bounce. Like you mentioned you are always thinking about your next move or maybe two or three moves and you don't even realize it. Nice video
This is something Im definitely gonna practice. I've tried in the past but could never really do it all that well. This is gonna help a lot. Just trying to improve for gears 3.
@HaX0Rmedia We call that the "Claw". I hold my controller normally with index on bumper, middle on trigger. Just takes a lot of practice to be able to be quick on the sticks
@schizox High settings typically allow for better movement. @AutoPsychotic suggested using the "Alternate" control scheme to combat rolling when wanting to wall bounce. I personally haven't used Alternate control scheme, I tested the distances (on GoW2) of when the character would roll versus wall bounce on every map for a couple hours.
@Skyllus I think left handed people may actually find wallbouncing easier. Just a theory. I use the left handed stick layout, so I can use the stick and A with my right thumb together.
@TheAlertGamer You need to keep distance in mind, so if you find you're always rolling, try walking a little bit before sliding to your next wall, you might be too far to bounce.
@AutoPsychotic Skyllus actually tested the alternate control scheme for a short period of time and didn't quite like the feel of it (I can't remember how long he tried to adjust). I have never tried to use the alternate control scheme, but I imagine it would probably take awhile to get used to, considering it took a couple weeks to get used to my Onza button remaps. Those occasional rolls are admittedly annoying, that is for sure.
never really had problems with learning to wall bounce. i just watched a guy who was good do it then i had from there. good tips though, reminded me of several things i forgot
I like the new shorter video, but its just as good as the normal long ones. as for the wall bouncing, im not the best and i would never claim to be, but I win 99% of all my fights with ease on GoW. I play with medium settings all over. Never needed to put it on high. I have been told i bounce strangely. just thought i would mention high settings arent a requirement.
@InfamousGHD Gears 1 you have to actually hit the wall since there wasn't a canceling mechanic. So it was more of a literal bounce - you actually bounce off the wall. Definitely slower. In GoW1 competitive play, strafing was a lot more prevalent than wallbouncing.
Do you use the claw method grip on the controller while Wallbouncing? I can't seem to comfortably aim while wallbouncing with the standard method, but I find switching to claw method pretty difficult.
@Spoonuser12 Nope, just gotten very quickly at getting from the stick to the buttons. One of those things which you pick up pretty quickly if you play a ton of Gears with the intention of getting better.
I wallbounce pretty hard core down like a tunnel or up a staircase. I'm pretty bad in the open going randomly everywhere but like I said I'm pretty swift down a straight away cuz people can't hit me even though I'm going just side to side straight down a line and I don't shoot till I physically like slam bodies with the person. Even though I'm obviously ramming them they don't catch on until I've already one pieced them.
@arCtiCvBi will do! though my sensitivity was on the highest on gow3beta.... never did use high on gow2 so that was the problem, even in the beta i would just roll ... will be waiting for the vid in my sub box on Monday thnx !!
ive always struggled with this, reason why i did not play multiplayer alot on gow2 got any special tips for us onza users? ive got the A button on the left bumper and dont even remember what i put on the right bumper on the gow3beta
@Skyllus oh i hate when people start strafing.. well to re-word that when my teammates start strafing, cause whenever they get into a strafe fight they always seem to die, or get teamed :/
@CrimsonTideAOC I do think it is possible, just you're pretty much limited to one bounce, sometimes two. Doing a string of bounces is really difficult on Medium. During the Members Helping Members event there was a guy who tried to do the bounce in the video on Medium, could never get the stick around in time. Just overall limits yourself with what you can do bounce-wise.
@SuperMitchmacsyoutub I think you may have missed the point. Sliding faster shouldn't be the goal. It's about knowing the timing and the best scenarios for wall bouncing. The speed at which you wallbounce does not necessarily make you any better or worse and by all means make your very own video showcasing your thoughts on Wall Bouncing.
@Pmike2345 think of wall hopping as sort of a dash if you will, it makes for quicker movement to areas around the map, as well as quicker movement towards your enemies to land what ever strike you wish. it is indeed an exploitation of the game in which people will use to over come each other.
I like the 10 min vids more. I think for this video some actual gameplay examples would've helped augment the training. Like, after you explain it, show it in use. Then the vid would be longer as well.
@arCtiCvBi Yeah, from watching a 10 minute one you just get more out of it, even if its just more examples of a certain tip or you just go more in depth about it or a certain strat. It gives, me at least, more to think about and try to use overall. And don't get me wrong this one was plenty informative but of course longer ones will have more to it.
where were you when i still needed to learn wallbouncing? :P, anyways i was told that if there is no wall, you want to shoot and then roll backwards or sideways, true?
@H0rr0rSc0pe Need to work on your finger speed getting from A to your stick again, and be strategic with your bounces to make aiming easier on yourself. I recommend bouncing around a ton for a few days, you'll get quicker at it.
@WebbanationX just get a friend and practice it with him in action or just do it by yourself. when it comes down to a shotgun fight, if you can wallbounce and the other cant you will kill him. And also note that unless your playing with people you can COMMUNICATE with, doing good in matches is nearly impossible
@themrcheezburger Never roll! Well, you could roll backwards and then start booking it. I'd never roll sideways though. Generally in that scenario I prefer to just start strafing and fight it out.
I always hated wall bouncing. I made it priority to stay as far away from anything that's not Horde on Gears 2 because of it. I know I'm not good at it. I'll never be good at it. It's an annoying ass exploit in my opinion and it's never gonna go away, so I simply have to find ways to shoot around it. If nothing else, I'll use the bounce to avoid offensive bouncers and nothing more
@SuperMitchmacsyoutub most players that bounce like online warriors such as yourself wouldn't understand that your a predictable player and the only reason you might live is because you tank shots online. Good tutorial Arctic.
cool vid. did not know you could slide faster than run. I knew you could roll faster than run. man, Epic made some dumb changes to Gears. Lets hope Gears 3 is decent.
This video aint Real WB , im not saying im a Pro at it but i do play gears 1 -2 3 years now , so in the competive i mostly score at the top 3 so if you'd like to see WB - Message: CR1MSON HOS7
@SuperMitchmacsyoutub yeah your the type of guy who wallbounces into my shotgun because your timing and positioning is all wrong then you moan because you think doing it real fast and missing your shots looks really cool. And as a side note to this, before you even think about wall bouncing, get a decent aim first, majority of people who do it cant hit a barn door.
I'm using the razer onza TE , it has two bumpers on each side and the "extra" one can be mapped to whatever button you want. Sorry for the late reply.
@HaX0Rmedia We call that the "Claw". I hold my controller normally with index on bumper, middle on trigger. Just takes a lot of practice to be able to be quick on the sticks

Excellent series of help for Gears and this one is very helpful and I will be practicing it.
Thank you!
Gears of war is the best multiplayer game out there. point black period. thumbs up if you agree.
@TheAlertGamer You need to keep distance in mind, so if you find you're always rolling, try walking a little bit before sliding to your next wall, you might be too far to bounce.
Thanks for the vid, been playing gears for years and ready to step my game up, this has helped

@TheOffspring24 Do you feel like there is more information in the longer episodes?
@InfamousGHD Gears 1 you have to actually hit the wall since there wasn't a canceling mechanic. So it was more of a literal bounce - you actually bounce off the wall. Definitely slower. In GoW1 competitive play, strafing was a lot more prevalent than wallbouncing.

@schizox I would suggest you check out my sensitivity settings video and I have a "Gears of War with the Razer Onza" video coming out Monday.
yeah the best controller scheme for wall bouncing is alternate because it has two separate action for cover and rolling
I've first heard about wallbouncing when I first subbed early in '12, and have wondered about it since. Great ti have finally found this vid! =)
I wallbounce pretty hard core down like a tunnel or up a staircase. I'm pretty bad in the open going randomly everywhere but like I said I'm pretty swift down a straight away cuz people can't hit me even though I'm going just side to side straight down a line and I don't shoot till I physically like slam bodies with the person. how do you change button layouts? ide rather have my A button for right bumper
ty so much ive been trying so hard to do it and i coudlnt i never realized that you had to press back like you said
ty
@arCtiCvBi will do! though my sensitivity was on the highest on gow3beta.... never did use high on gow2 so that was the problem, even in the beta i would just roll ... will be waiting for the vid in my sub box on Monday thnx !!

I like the longer eps myself, but it's all good either way. I just can't wait till the beta drops these are going to be very helpful.
@Skyllus oh i hate when people start strafing.. well to re-word that when my teammates start strafing, cause whenever they get into a strafe fight they always seem to die, or get teamed :/

why would you leave gore off?
Nice tut
@AutoPsychotic
improve frame rate? lol this isn;t pc
how do you know this games isn't capped at a certain fps?
@WebbanationX just get a friend and practice it with him in action or just do it by yourself. when it comes down to a shotgun fight, if you can wallbounce and the other cant you will kill him. And also note that unless your playing with people you can COMMUNICATE with, doing good in matches is nearly impossible
Good stuff. Thank you for posting this.
@flamekid3 a 3rd party xbox controller made my Razer, do a google search for "Razer Onza TE" and the page should come up
@themrcheezburger Never roll! Well, you could roll backwards and then start booking it. I'd never roll sideways though. Generally in that scenario I prefer to just start strafing and fight it out.
i think its called air sliding when u just bounce of the air b4 even hitting the wall
i miss the old way of gears so much
skylus, you didn't explain the position of your fingers. big miss there.
I like 10 minute ones, especially if its once a week.

I always hated wall bouncing. I made it priority to stay as far away from anything that's not Horde on Gears 2 because of it. I know I'm not good at it. I'll never be good at it.
