A coworker asked me what Dia De Los Muertos was and I told him it was sort of like a Mexican Memorial Day for your loved ones instead of it being patriotic in nature.
This tutorial was fantastic!! This was the first year I was brave enough to try this look and it came out better than I could have anticipated... even with a few fits and starts. Thank you for making a tutorial that was both informative and accessible. The one thing I did learn is remembering that pigments show up differently on darker skin so choosing carefully!

I bookmarked this along with 1 other video, but really liked your take on the basics of the origin story for Calavera, the use of different media for skin (and the importance of protection and primer!), and how to use alternates for face makeup. It helped me find a good base for the "bone" color, and, was great explanation for technique. Well presented!

Great idea about using light foundation! Last year my makeup for Día de Los Muertos came out really streaky for using the Halloween makeup store of white face paint :( I’ll definitely try this idea for this time around though :)
You’re so welcome! I tried costume makeup at first as well and that didn’t work for me. Foundation worked perfectly and made blending so easy!

I’m from Mexico and painting your face is not mandatory neither as big as people outside of Mexico think
Yes is important but is only a representation, everything else has to do with altars, food, graveyards, religion, music, and mainly honoring or praying for your dead ones

for some reason people believe "dia de muertos" means wearing skeletons costumes and make up only
ever since catrina representation became mainstream people misunderstand dia de muertos meaning
is like saying christmas means you have to dress like santa claus, not the actual birth of Jesus Christ.
