@@davesherry3464 I was on the Kenai last weekend, I limited out on Reds… How do you catch Kings.? When it comes to Salmon, I like big slabs of it, put up, smoked, or frozen… and I’m not partial about how that happens.
Whaaa?! Your on the kasilof?! Man I’m usual right close by the river I go every year for commercial fishing dude hoo rah! Commercial the best 3rd year deck hand! Just wish I was there! But head to kasilof July 3rd
I understand that sockeye don’t bite well in rivers. Chinook do. You’d probably be better off with spinners, bait or twitching jigs. Get some hens (females) buy some firecure and look up cures from pautske. A size 5 or 6 blue fox is great. A purple and chartreuse 1/2oz-3/4 twitching jig would work too. All that applies to coho too.

If you hold the rod down low upstream when he’s running downstream you can turn his head. Nice job on that okuma reel lol. That’s a feat not a lot of people have done.
That a boy Sam for grinding out the first king. Brain you ain’t bad luck, you just making time for the lady friend. Hard to find them that want fish/hunt with ya. You got a keeper bro
People that are saying that this is “ unethical” obviously have never fished a glacial fed river. The fish can’t see! How can they bite? My advice for you is a 8’6- 10 foot rod, medium light with fast or mod action, bait caster preferred but spinning produces as well, 15lb line, cannon ball weights adjusted to flows so your bounce on the bottom nicely and finally a egg pattern bead or corkey and a little yarn is optional, 6-9 foot leader, octopus hook, gamikatsu or owner brands work well. This has produced well over 500 fish for me, all caught in the mouth! And this is in Washington where we have way less salmon pushing up a river. And it’s not flossing it’s side drifting!!!
Dang, wish I would have known you guys were struggling to get a king. I could have helped out. They are super bitey if you use the right stuff instead of flossing.
I am snagging for king salmons last month on the 29th and I got two king salmons they weren't mature but i still like king salmons when they are mature that one of the mature salmons i like going for especially the meat be tasting different
In Washington the hard jerk at the end of your drift will get you a ticket for trying to snag, game warden told me there's no way you're getting a bite every drift therefore you shouldn't be setting the hook every drift....a gob of eggs or sandshrimp or a twitching jig work great for chinook and coho in Washington
Lol..... it's not called flipping it's called snagging just because of the whipping motion at the end.... try twitching or spinners ... to each there own
Flossing is a great time! You don’t need to swing so hard and so much though! Wait till you feel a bump or your weight stops and then set the hook. Won’t snag any fish!
Congratulations you have been selected among our shortlisted winners from our previous giveaway Contact the number above ..............................
I will agree 100%. Just a slow swing will work, not a fast hook set. In Washington, if they see you doing that, you get a ticket. Are you trying to floss king's? Didn't know you were allowed to do that in AK, like sockeye.
Once the fish is hooked aim your tip up RIVER!! Walk back and reel! Do not run up and down the bank! Right befor the fish hits the bank quickly aim the tip down stream and pull!! The fish will come shooting on the bank!!
King salmon is pretty much the hardest fighting fish in fresh water for it's size. No dead weight.. all strength. Can't wait for the salmon run in Oct.
@@seewhyem Smallmouths and bluegills are also supper strong pound for pound fighters. I’m just saying that for how small these fish are and they can fight that hard. In the vid he said that the king was about 10 ish pounds, a 10 pound smally would put up just as much if not more of a fight in my opinion. Keep in mind I haven’t caught a king or even a salmon in my life.
@@leytonmoran1766 yeah, i've caught kings before and they for sure will fight harder than a 10lb smallmouth if you can find one. I guess you can say they fight like a big carp but on steroids. They fight until the very end. If they run downstream and you can't turn their head.. you'll get spooled.
"First little hit"... LOL! What really happened is you stuck your hook briefly into the body of a salmon with your rip snagging technique! That part of the Kasilof river (lower people's hole) can be good if you fish correctly. Ease up on the rip and ONLY set the hook when the drift stops.
Dude, since you removed my other critical post, here goes a different tact. The Kenai Twitch is not an accepted method of fishing for Kings. Kings will bite. You floss for reds. This isn't even flossing. It's blatant snagging. The King population is in trouble in AK. Please don't disrespect the fish so much as to snag & foul hook them. We were enjoying your trip and videos up until this one. I caught my first Alaskan king in the Kasilof just up from where you were, near the "People's Hole."
I live just outside of soldotna in sterling. Been fishing then kenai and kasilof and surrounding waters a long time. Also have a power and drift boat. Unfortunately I’m working 4 weeks on 2 weeks off out of state. If you guys have any questions or are looking for some info, shoot me a message. I will be home periodically depending on how long you’re staying and could put you guys on some fish in the boat or from the bank when I am home if you’re interested
If you guys want to try something besides flossing and snagging for salmon you should watch some addicted fishing videos. That’s how we do it here in WA when we don’t always fish to harvest. (Actually hardly anyone flosses in most respectable fisheries down here now). But cured eggs are #1 way to get a king to bite. In fact you’ll probably hook more than when flossing.
Hey MinnDak I no I had mentioned to you in your last video that I would love to see you meet one or both the Alaskan outdoors you tube channels but I had forgot that deermeatfordinner is also out in Alaska right now!! They were at miller’s landing for a couple days and Toka Alaska when they first got to Alaska also!! Not sure where they are now but I definitely no if I was out in Alaska and new that deer meat for dinner was also out there at the same time I’d definitely want to meet him and his family!! They have meet a lot of new people and went on some really nice fishing adventures also!! I’d definitely be keeping a couple of those salmon heads if you was to get a chance to fish for halibuts!!!? He had always wanted to catch salmon and use the head from the salmon to try for a halibut and he definitely got it done and the halibut that was caught was over a 125lbs!! It was as big as he was and his PB he said!!! Definitely check out his video even if you don’t get to see him and check out that amazing halibut that he had caught on the salmon head that he caught the day before!!! The food chain works every time for sure and it’s even proven!!! Awesome video buddy and remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!
I enjoy your videos. But, you do not need to fish Kings like Reds. They will bite so you should be swinging something that they will eat or agitate them so they bite. You will mostly avoid snagging fish if you dont follow your swing up with a hook set. Sometimes it is impossible to avoid snagging on the swing though. Simply strip in and cast. Fish different distances as well. Congrats on the fish! Oh, and fly line is superior to handle and fish dynamically. You should replace that mono and try it.
Makes me so happy seeing others having fun and catching fish, love your vids👍
Rookie moves when landing fish don't ever pull on small line with hand. Only pull fish in with rod because of flex.
Yep learned that the hard way at about 8 years old haven’t touched a line on landing a fish since
Real talk! Never let somebody touch your line
Had me stressed when he pulled it in like that
They aren't snagging? Haha, what great fisherman!

I have so many stories of that place I could write a book. It used to be just a gravel parking lot in the woods.
Just been reading books I don't blame her what a beautiful place to do so
Yes sir
Whats the setup you guys are using fly rod reel WT and brand?
Snaggers total snaggers
Congrats bro! That's a nice spring/summer Chinook. Definitely not a jack.

Congratulations SAM a king is a king I didn't catch one when I fished the Kenai ! Congratulations

Y’all need to come back to SD I wanna see walleye fishing 🎣

What size of fly rod are you using, 9 or 10 weight?
10
Love the videos! Looks like Alaska has been awesome, adventurous and challenging.
Can you share what brand/kind of wader bibs you are wearing? Thanks!
You can feel the weight bounce off the bottom. When it stops it means you either have a fish or the weight got caught on something.
Gotcha
Nice fish super cool I bet on a fly rod

normally if its 20 inches or less its considered a jack, that was a king!
Sweet!
When I worked on a charter boat in Seward 2 years ago we had a 65lb king and let me tell you it was like pulling in a dolphin
Shew
Really enjoy your episodes , wish you could show the filets , but next time , much respect from the Monterey California area 🌊 .... 🤙🏻

Is it only Fly fishing in the river. Definitely need to try spawn if you can
don't rip #WildKings.....fish some yarn.....they will bite.....turned this ripping vid off bud
Did it fight harder than a giant catfish or carp? Love the vids. Do you know the water temp there by any chance?
