I couldn't agree more. I was in Vianden for two days about two weeks ago, riding loops with five friends. Some of the best riding we've done. We also strayed over the border into Germany, which was great riding as well. Definitely coming back.

Maybe it's already part of the past, but for those of us who joined recently, the restoration of the Bonnie is amazing. Thanks also for the images and your story.
Very welcome in our little corner of the world Freddie! And yes : Most Belgians can switch very fast into minimum 4 languages... We are raised like this from childhood or school , but also in the media . All movies we watch are in the original language with subtitels in Dutch or French. So we learn it very fast to speak a lot of different languages. Hello. What a nice surprise to see this road trip starting in my city of Malmedy. And thank you for the great pictures. For the record, the garage with the old Volvos was the old Volvo dealership in the region. The owner did not want to follow the standards imposed on Volvo dealerships and ended his contract. He had several new cars in stock at that time. And he always kept them... I wanted, 20 years later, to buy one but it was not possible. So they are still there, new and have been for more than 25 years.
Oh man, you were in Malmedy. I would have loved giving you a tour. That’s my backyard, half hour riding from where I live. I have seen a lot of parts of the world but the Ardennes are truely special. Malmedy and Eupen are my starting points for riding the bike into the Ardennes. So much good riding, very interesting WW 2 history and the most special and remote walking routes you can find in the Benelux area.
Hey Freddie Hello fro Vancouver BC Canada , thanks for showing the cycle scene in Europe I appreciate all the things that you are interested in and have fun watching great coffee, interesting cars and buildings We are cut from the same cloth, Great videos👍
I am happy that fellow riders are finding the joys of all of what Luxembourg has to offer. My wife is from Luxembourg . The north of the country is more interesting for bikers. The humans are in work.
OMG! My first visit to Luxembourg City was in the 1980s and one thing to stick in my memory was a stone monument which featured a sheep wearing glasses. It was so random I always regretted not taking a picture of it. Back in 2016 I passed through Luxembourg again, with some friends, and I made them drive around the city for ages in the hope of finding it, just to see it again and get a photo. We finally found it on the Rue Notre Dame: it's a monument to the artist Michel Rodange. That bike park where you stopped? ... that's precisely where that monument is located!
Moien Freddie! As a Luxembourg resident, this country is perfect for petrolheads. Amazing roads and good variety of routes (look up Grand Tour du Luxembourg for 7 amazing routes around the country) and the close proximity to tracks Spa, Nurburgring and Hockenheim can certainly keep you entertained during the weekends. Fun fact: a lot of people who grew up in Luxembourg can speak at least 4 languages (Luxembourgish, French, German and English).
Wow, great to hear from a resident! Thank you so much for this, I’ll check it out now👌🏻 That’s incredible re languages; I did find that everyone I spoke to spoke English to a pretty much mother tongue level
Hi Freddie, love watching your touring videos. Living in New Zealand I doubt I will ever get to visit these places. Better clean the Bonnie before you get back home, or Monika will be having words with you 😂😂
Hi Phil, really glad you’re enjoying the road trip! It’s true, Monika is being quite ruthless with cleaning (possibly too ruthless in my humble opinion)🙋🏻♀️🧽
Hi Freddie, enjoyed the video! i live near Maastricht. It's indeed a beautifull city! If you're ever up for another euro trip, you have to go to the Eiffel! villages like Monchau, Kronenburg and Badmunster eiffel are beautifull authentic places. Koblenz and Köln after that and you have a nice roadtrip! Keep up the good work!
As a definite all-weather rider, you should consider a more protective front mudguard. Something like the Baak stainless version - comes painted or bare. I'm sure Joe would fit it for you.
I can feel Joe and Emily weeping on my shoulder. ... My wife is experimenting with motorcycling. My Scrambler and Jackpot have been joined by a Piaggio MP3.... and Freddie videos are the perfect encouragement. (And On The Road... get a view in folks)
Ive stayed in Clerveaux several times over the last 20 years and still have the watch i bought there 16 years ago. Lovely little town, nice spa hotel and manor house on the hill
Your observations about Europe are spot on. I lived in Netherlands for many years, it never ceased to amaze me the idea of all those countries and different languages so close. Living in Zuid Holland, I went to Vianden, Luxembourg for the day on my Honda Deauville. Lovely town. Perhaps the Dutch bikers were doing the same. Try visiting Baarle-Hertog, not sure if it’s Belgian or Dutch. Walk up the main road and you enter and leave both countries several times.
Hi Freddie, I am from eastern Belgium, currently on holiday in sunny Malindi, Kenya, and smile at your candid review of Belgian historical, cultural and social particularities. I speak the three languages, wishing more of my compatriots would too. I wonder by which ways you’ll return to England. Take your time, though I presume you’ve got a schedule, and your insatiable curiosity will be fed. As I write this, the shots show you’ve entered quaint Luxembourg and its perfect roads.
Malindi- what a place to go on holiday! Very interesting to hear from a Belgian with regards to the languages. And added to those three, many will speak English too… so four spoken languages. Phenomenal👌🏻
I’d love to know more about that old Volvo dealership. My parents owned a silver Volvo 240 GLT when me and my brother were kids. Great car and built like a tank.
As a rider with an interest in WW2 history (did Normandy last year) its on my bucket list to vist Bastogne and Arnhem in that region. Then down to the Eagles nest. Hopefully next year !
Another really cool vídeo. I love Malmedy, Stavelot and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The hole Ardennes in fact is amazing. And go to the SpaClassic event is one of the best things to do in Belgium. Hugs from Brussels.
Getting a T 400 Scrambler X next week, and have looked at tool rolls as a functional yet aesthetic addition. Yours is in the higher price range, but definitely in the higher quality range too. As the old adage goes "Freddie knows best" (Monica may not agree:)).
Hi Freddie Great Vlog thanks, you gotta change your front mudguard to something that won't chuck stones, mud and water over the engine and radiator of your newly beautifully restored Bonneville (me thinks).
My first impression, when I came from Germany to London by motobike last year, was, that every bike was locked up with heavy big chains at large metal eyelets in the bottom. 😮 The parking space for motorbikes was very little even...
Hi Freddie. Saw you wiping your visor with your gloves, here’s little wrinkle that I found helped lots with mucky visors when I used to commute into London every day. . I got a chammy leather, punched a hole in the corner, tied it to a piece of tape. Tied the other end of the tape to a bulldog clip. I would then wet the chammy before setting off clip the bulldog clip to my belt (so I didn’t lose the leather but if it got tangled up it would just pull off) I’d shove the leather between my legs and every time my visor got mucky a quick wipe and it was clean again. Worked brilliantly unless the leather froze - which it did every now and then on the coldest days.
We have driven around luxemburg a couple of times. With our moto group. Never visited the capitol though. Thnx for showing what we missed... A good reason to go there again...
I’ve only just got back from my most recent Euro trip around the Alps but, watching your beautiful filming just makes me want to be back on the road again! You capture the pleasures of motorcycle touring so well, thanks as usual for sharing your travels 😊
So what's young Dobbs up to today? I think us Brits tend to neglect Belgium, yet from everything I see it strikes me as the perfect place to go for a motorcycle trip. For a start, it's close, no long slog on the autoroute to the Mediterranean just a short hop on the ferry, or the tunnel if you must and you're there. The roads all look beautiful, the scenery stunning, I have a Belgian friend who's Instagram is full of winding roads through forests, opening up to stunning views across meandering rivers, craggy out crops and beautiful little towns, all with great places to stop and eat. And whilst as you point out there are three official languages here, from what my friend says, almost everyone also speaks at least a smattering of English, so for us monolingual Brits, we can get by. I'm very tempted to pack a bag and hop on a boat right now.
I can throughly recommend the Ardennes region of Belgium. My friend and I rode there last year and couldn’t believe how great the roads were with no traffic and beautiful scenery through the winding river valleys. All within a couple of hours of the Channel 👍
I'm often in that area, it does have great roads, great places to eat and stay and stunning scenery and it extends into Germany, but there is a reason its beautiful and green, compared to the popular bike destinations in Spain and France, it does rain a lot, not a reason not to go, but just to be aware of.
I really like to watch your touring videos, nice surroundings in Luxemburg🙂. Follow you decition on putting original exhaust muffler back on my 08 Bonneville T100, love the silence! I dont remap , the bike goes absolutely fine.......

I'm like you a proper breakfast sets me up for the ride, I've always managed to find something that includes bacon 😄 Loving the ride thru Europe and especially Luxembourg, probably not on everyones destination list.
When your in Luxemburg City, not far from the Pont Adolphe there is a bakkery called Backerei Fisher. Croisants and coffee there are splendid and not expensive. It is our breakfeast spot every morning if we are there. Make sure to visit Parque la Petruse and Museum Dreï Echelen. Enjoy Freddie, I'm counting down two more weeks and I'm in Luxemburg City again ;)
as a Dutch person with Family in Belgium. In the northern part (Flemish) most people, specially younger person speak, dutch French and English. As i remember these languages are taught at school and are mandatory in school; (not totally sure about that) When you visit the Flemish part you can easy speak English or Dutch off course and most people speak French. In general people are easy going. The French speaking part are different. Most people only speak French and will not try to speak a other language. People seems to be more on them self and are, my experience, not as friendly as the flemish people. Offcourse this is general speaking from my own experience and told by family living near Antwerp. But lovely video! Luxembourg is such a nice an good country to ride. Cheap, lovely people, clean and beautiful roads!
Most of us are trilingual, english flemish french. So in Brussels in a bar we constantly switch, you might order your beer in french then have a conversation in dutch. And depending on the company switch to english or french mid conversation.
Your bike is awesome and I was enthralled by the refurbishment. I have a ‘bobber’ style bike with a small front fender like yours. When the roads are wet the muck off the front tyre would be spread over the entire bike. A couple of years ago I abandoned the bobber look and bought a full mud guard with an extender which now covers a huge amount of the front wheel. Even in the filthiest weather the bike is now …. Spotless (relatively). Have you ever considered exchanging your front mudguard for something fuller?
Used to do day trips to Luxemburg from Central Germany and back, back in the days. The "official" idea was to ride through the Hubsrück Mountains for about 250 miles. A benefit was getting cheap cigarettes and booze there, which for some seemed to be the entire motivation. These were the times where you had to go through Border Control in Wasserbillig of course.
In Lux City there was a surprising lack of scooters and also bicycles from what you showed. More pedestrians than vehicles at all. So different from most cities some of which I have been to where taking a breath is hazardous.
I went to Clervaux back in the 90's. There is a monastery on top of a really big hill in the centre of the town. In the centre of Luxembourg City there is a massive valley with businesses, shops and houses in. It looks like a model village when looked down on from above. I spent the night in a goat barn overlooking the valley whilst I was hitch hiking around Europe. Oh for the days of living out of a backpack and the simpler things in life............
Amazing place Freddie , so beautiful, If you ever come to Australia I’m happily to take and even Monica if she wanted to come , and 3000km ride from near Melbourne Vic to Cairns QLD , all the best roads ( sealed ) , Around Mid April or early May and heading North to warmer weather. 👍
Wow Freddie, I just saw this trip on Your TH-cam Channel. You passed by our house this summer in the very north of the country ( close to Wemperhardt and Troisvierges where I suppose You took the road to Clervaux ) , if I'd have known, I'd have invited You for a cup of coffee and have shown You things and places that You would never have thought they do exist in small Luxembourg ! ( A Luxembourger who follows Your channel for quite a while ) . Ride safe and next time please let me know .ps.: my bikes are a Royal Enfield Classic 350 (solo) and my 33 year BMW K75 with EZS-Sidecar.
Yep, the language in that region can be confusing. A few weeks back in that region I checked into a campsite, using my best French, and the person asked if I was German. On finding out I was from the UK they said that's good because they didn't speak very good French....!
Don't forget, ref to the petrol heads, you are only a couple of hours away from Nurburgring .... If you get a chance try Trier, which has the Porto Negre, one wonderful building in an awesome city.
Awesome as always. Fred, can you please say some more about the stick you're using for your 360 camera? It looks impressive but I can't find it or nor sure which one it is here in Poland.
You've been watching too much Mickey Flanagan by the looks of it, due to the way you pronounce "restaurant" 😂 You missed out if you didn't go to Esch-sur-Sûre on your way back. Major bike ride to place in Luxemburg. Head up N12 or the 101 out of Luxo, it takes about 50mins to get there. Nice cafes and on the river. There's a dedicated bikers hotel there too.
Luxembourg is indeed very nice, so is the country side and the city of Luxembourg. Was just there last week on Thursday. You mentioned a lot of "special" cars/vehicles when you were in Belgium/Malmedy. Mind, it is in the vicinity of Spa race circuit and one will always see very serious money on 4 and 2 wheels there. Belgium and Luxembourg are really very nice to explore on two wheels. Foodwise, Belgium is more reasonable priced than Luxembourg, I think. Should there be people who like madeleine biscuit: Go to 4 rue de´l Eau in the city of Luxembourg. You will get the most delicious madeleines you´ve ever had!
Luxembourg City looked very nice , how do you find the Triumph for touring as regards weather protection ? Do you ever fancy something else for the longer trips ?
Interestingly, the Dutch riders on the Pan Europeans asked me “why do you choose to tour on a bike like this?”. I genuinely find the Bonneville incredibly comfortable (superb seat and relaxed riding position). But… I am curious regarding a bigger bike for touring, I just am not sure yet, what it’d be

I bet you’re already considering your next trip, Dale!😃
@@FreddieDobbs always😂
When your in Luxemburg City, not far from the Pont Adolphe there is a bakkery called Backerei Fisher. Croisants and coffee there are splendid and not expensive. It is our breakfeast spot every morning if we are there. Make sure to visit Parque la Petruse and Museum Dreï Echelen. Enjoy Freddie, I'm counting down two more weeks and I'm in Luxemburg City again ;)
Fischer Brot, Kinder tot 😂!
Is there a delicious irony, Freddie with a tool roll strapped to his forks? Learnt several things I did not know about Belgium and Luxembourg.
Yes there is!😆
as a Dutch person with Family in Belgium. In the northern part (Flemish) most people, specially younger person speak, dutch French and English.
As i remember these languages are taught at school and are mandatory in school; (not totally sure about that)
When you visit the Flemish part you can easy speak English or Dutch off course and most people speak French.
Absolutely loving your road trips. Amazing roads and scenery.
Thank you
Most of us are trilingual, english flemish french.
Enjoyable evocative vid, thanks Freddie. Time for the S doc 100 the lazy man’s way to a clean machine 😊
Hmmm, I’ve just googled this. Thanks
Thanks Freddie, really interesting to see this part of the world.
Delighted you enjoyed it!
Gorgeous little Swallow Tail Golf @25:24
Wasn’t it!
A superb episode, Freddie...
Joyful to watch. 😎
Yes Freddie, most (a lot of) Belgians are multilingual, and can switch between 3 or 4 languages. Enjoy!
Try and stop at the High Chaparral near Esch-Sur-sure on the way home Freddie
Wld have enjoyed to see a bit around luxembourg freddie unless you show that in the next video?
Great job! Cheers mate.
I'm off to Luxembourg on Friday on my NC750X
Talented editing 👍
I thought Monika did it?
Volvos are the best cars :)
Volvos were very good cars but not anymore .
Great video and these are always fun to watch. I was wondering what sort of rain jacket is that you are wearing in the woods?
Regarding the Volvo cars you should’ve asked the old man what his plans were? Plan for an excellent business proposition!!😊
He’s possibly waiting a few years so they can be sold as ‘barn finds’ at big prices!
All lefties though… 😧
Yep, the language in that region can be confusing. A few weeks back in that region I checked into a campsite, using my best French, and the person asked if I was German. On finding out I was from the UK they said that's good because they didn't speak very good French....!
A lot of the campsites in the North of Luxembourg are owned/run by the Dutch! I once stayed in a hotel there and the staff didn't speak French.
Don't forget, ref to the petrol heads, you are only a couple of hours away from Nurburgring ....
If you get a chance try Trier, which has the Porto Negre, one wonderful building in an awesome city.
Brilliant 👍 👏
Awesome as always. Fred, can you please say some more about the stick you're using for your 360 camera? It looks impressive but I can't find it or nor sure which one it is here in Poland.
You've been watching too much Mickey Flanagan by the looks of it, due to the way you pronounce "restaurant" 😂
You missed out if you didn't go to Esch-sur-Sûre on your way back.
Nice trip !
It was an mt-07 Freddie!
But… I am curious regarding a bigger bike for touring, I just am not sure yet, what it’d be
Nice one Freddie
Bonjour Freddie
Bon Appetite
Bon chance
Bon Voyage.
Hi Freddie. That’s a Yamaha FZ07 toward the end of the video
