Thank you Brendan. Due to the poor weather which means I can't get into my veggie patch I've done a lot of turning recently. I feel the urge to turn some pens and if I start I will keep at it for several weeks. It's a bit nostalgic for me as that's how I began turning. Hope all is well with you. Best wishes, Alan.
+Alan Simpson Thanks Alan, I was fascinated when I saw a pen a friend turned and was determined to have a go so I did and loved it. I do big runs but there's almost a Zen-like experience doing production work. I like that. There will be more videos on pens to come. Best Wishes, Brendan.
Hi Brendan! I really love the way you explain everything step by step and the detailed method for doing stuff! Blank drilling was no exception! Great video, thanks for sharing my friend! Cheers! Daniel
+Daniel Vilarino Thank you Daniel, maybe it's my past life coming through... I was a maths lecturer so I spent a lot of time explaining things in detail. I try to think of the questions I would ask and answer them in the video, I did the same when I was preparing lectures. Best Wishes, Brendan.
+Mike Waldt Thanks Mike. I prefer to drill on the lathe over a pillar drill because everything is locked down and I'm not trying to steady the blank and pull the drill handle down at the same time. It also negates the issue of having only 50mm travel on most pillar drill quills where, in my case anyway, I had to stop drilling and lift the table to get through the blank. I was never happy with that because I always felt I was reaming the original hole as I drilled through the blank. Give it a go to see how you get on, you might like it. Best Wishes, Brendan.
+Ian Maude Thanks Ian. Acrylics and Corian are great but you need to keep the heat down because thay don't like that at all. I also found that they are more likely to let the CA glue bond between the tube and the blank go. I use 2-part epoxy for all pens now and haven't had a single one let go in a couple of hundred pens.
Thanks Chris, I hope I gave a good enough explanation of this because I've got so used to seeing you turning I forget that little problem you have. I'm going to put a sign with your name at the lathe to remind me to make sure I explain everything as well as I can. Best Wishes, Brendan.
+RJBWoodTurner Thank you Bob. I'm going to put up little videos of each step of my process to let you see what I do because it's easier than editing a big load of clips. Best Wishes, Brendan.
wood occupies the narrative while taders leave blank canvas to fill which has more variable potential which is art vs math but the art is really much more complex and variable math. I do no drugs ... anymore. Vid well done n good 2 see ya!
You're Welcome! The more vids you do the better. It works for octopuses, octopies which aren't always pies made of octopuses or just 8 pies, some times they're just gobbs of individual octopuses like an orgie of underwater spiders sort of, leg wise at least.

That's an excellent technique! And that explains a lot the attention to detail! Cheers!
Very effective method Brendan.....I've seen it used but never have myself, you've convinced me is the way to go.
Cheers

Hi Brendan, thanks for the information and showing your method For drilling pen blanks, Cheers Harry
+The Little Garden Shed Workshop Thanks Harry.
Thanks Brendan, great information as always and a good tip on corona. I have not attempted acrylic or Corian blanks as yet. It's on my list ;)

I agree Brendan its the best way to drill blanks
+Michael Flynn Thanks Michael, it's easier than a pillar drill.
I like rule # 1 LOL. You make it all look very easy.
+Dale Calder LOL, that's the only rule.
Hi Brendan !!

Thank you James.

+Frank B You're welcome Frank.
Strange drilling a hole without the drill bit turning......
+lifeinthailand LOL, I was a bit fascinated by that when I first started drilling on the lathe.
