Here in Arkansas on one of our largest lakes the crappie are in 40-45 feet water suspended off brush few feet off the bottom. Caught 30 the other day but it was tough they are lethargic and you are looking for a heavy line. Any type of setting the hook you'll miss the fish. Color isn't a big issue as long as you are matching some type of the shad they feed on. Same bait in salt and pepper and monkey milk work great. Man I sure do miss the shallow bite.

You remind me of my Daddy Brother. He was a true outdoorsman and passed as much of his knowledge as he could to me. The story goes that I was two days old when Daddy first took me fishing. Momma came along the first two weeks. After two weeks, Daddy figured that I had experienced enough of Momma’s moddley coddling so he gathered up my diapers, formula and clothes under one arm, me under the other one and we were on our way to the lake. He would place me on a blanket on the boat floor by his feet and put an umbrella over me to protect me from the sun. I would kick, gurgle and play with my toes and Daddy would fish and talk to me. I still have that 1952 Memphis Belle aluminum boat. He raised me up in the Louisiana swamps and pretty much allowed me to run wild through them. There were a lot of things that could kill you in those swamps but Daddy told me that if a gator or a pack of hogs got me, he would just start over with a better model. He loved hunting also but fishing was his forte. He knew how to find them any time of year anywhere we went. Fish and wild game kept our freezer full so we never knew hunger. He passed away 20 days short of his 90th birthday still talking about those hunting and fishing memories. He was a WWll veteran, a hard man who was no nonsense and extremely opinionated. I pray that he is now fishing in the River of Life with our Precious Savior right by his side. Lord Bless you Brother and all who enjoy your videos.

Dear Mr. Gene. I’ve been watching you for years and just love your great work. Recently I was ‘bragging you up’ to my brother, a natural cynic, who doesn’t believe that you can catch crappie anywhere, anytime! In fact, I took my confidence in you so far as to accept a full-on bet with him that you could indeed catch crappie in the northern waters. You bet I did. It’s like I told him, if anybody in the world can catch a crappie in the gulf of Alaska, it’s going to be Mr. Gene, the fishing machine. Now about that bet: I want to invite you to come to Seward, Alaska in July to fish with us on my boat so you can show “the natural cynic” just how it’s done. Love ya man! We’ll see you soon!

You get me fired up to go catch some crappies! I fish a very similar set up. Like many have said, I’d fish with you any day!!

Thanks for speaking plainly and letting us see the bait rigs.. a lot of people complicate their explanations to make themselves sound like "experts".. just watching how you work the jig will help me a lot!
