    Hi when you were trying to plug in your recharge cables I noticed that both times you had the cable upside down. If you put a drop of white out on the top side of the USB side you will always have the cable with the correct side up :-) cheers. Like you're work. Thanks

    Polarity Tip:
    I just got my DJI Mavic 2 Zoom yesterday. The micro USB's are polarized. One way to make sure
    you don't try to put the cable in wrong is to get some yellow or white fingernail polish.
    Put a small drop on the side of the cable and another on the surface you are plugging it into.
    Years ago someone put me on to these paint pencils (Diagraph GP-X). I use Yellow, it shows up very nicely and wears for years.
    When I now plug the cable in I know right away which way it goes in and doesn't damage the connector.

    Could we plug the six in one charger in to a DC 12V to 110V AC Converter in the vehicle?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark, that would work as long as the inverter you're using is pretty clean with the 120v AC its generating. Some of the better ones generate a pure sine wave and that means you'll get clean power out the other side of the charger. You also need to make sure that whatever inverter you're using can support the current the power supply needs to operate. Most of them do as long as it's not a tiny one. I hope that helps! Rick

    Another great review Rick, thank you! I almost bought an “inferior” multi-charger last week but decided not to. Glad I waited to see your review. Just purchased the multi-charger off your website along with the 2 extra cables. Thanks! Quick question, is using an inverter not a good idea? I bought a 450 w inverter a few weeks back and it did fine charging Mavic Air batteries, but could only get my M2Pro battery (singular) to what appeared to be 75% w/o tripping the breaker on the inverter. I was really disappointed in that and thought “I should have asked Rick first!” So, now I’m asking, after the fact, if you can do a clip on inverters - the good bad and ugly and your recommendations if/when/how they can or cannot be used for the M2Pro. Thanks again for all the great info on your channel! Your channel is unique and offers the type of support info many of us need, keep up the good work! Cheers.

    Hey Rick, very nice review of these chargers. That six-in-one looks for being a really big asset for being able to charge 4 batteries at the same time, that's really cool! Plus the portable car charger is very cool too, but it will take longer to charge up the batteries at the lower voltage. In my opinion, two is always better than one at a time even if it does take longer. Rick, have a question, do they make this charger for the Mavic Pro? Thanks again for the nice review!

    Hello mavic 2 batteries are lipo or LIHV.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mavic cells (like most of the modern DJI quads) are actually LIHV cells. The way you can tell is by dividing the total voltage (11.2v) by the number of cells (3) and you'll get an individual cell voltage of 3.8v. Lipo cells are 3.7v and that extra .1v is the indication that you're dealing with LIHV cells. They operate about the same as standard Lipo cells but have that little "extra" boost in them Thanks for the post and great question! Rick

    I am still interested in which gets the FIRST battery charged fastest ... the DJI hub which puts ALL its power into the first battery that needs the least charge to top it off or the other brands that try to charge all batteries in parallel. In my case, my greatest interest is getting the first battery.

    • @bobbrown8661
      @bobbrown8661 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The parallel charger would still be faster than stock as they both charge about 3.5A, aftermarket can go a little higher to 4-4.5A. With a parallel charger once the first battery is charged, you can leave the other three charging and they would presumably be completed a few minutes later by which time once you land you can just swap out batteries and take off straight after.

    I came to drones by way of R/C car racing and they put an emphasis on balance charging your multi cell batteries. Is that taken care of by the "intelligent" battery, or does the charger take care of that, if at all?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for posting and the answer is that the DJI batteries have an intelligent controller inside that not only balances the charge across the cells, it also provides a bunch of other protections against over-charging, shorts and other things that "naked" Lipo cells suffer from. I appreciate you stopping by and hope you'll sub the channel as I have a lot more content posting this week. Rick

    Rick, does this charger have a “storage” option? Where I can have the charger bring the battery down to a storage capacity?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post but it doesn't have this capability and is effectively "passive" when off so the batteries can sit on the charger when finished and will maintain their full charge. That discharging effort is actually a bad thing for these types of cells since it can mess with their discharge profiles. The controller learns what a typical charge / discharge cycle looks like and adjusts to accommodate. The best way to discharge the cells if you need to store them for a while is to hover the quad or let them move through the discharge automatically. I hope that helps, Rick

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Super Dave. I let the batteries sit for a few minutes to level off at room temperature before I start charging them. This is sometimes a challenge in the summer since it can get pretty hot. • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob, I haven't measured the voltage levels with the unit on but the one I've been using (and selling on our website) works great and charges the cells quickly. I'm not sure where you purchased your charger but if it's charging the cells I wouldn't worry. Remember, it's a 15.4 volt cell so anything above that voltage will charge the cells.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hassle with the CrystalSky (and there are a few) is that it doesn't come with a charger and you'll normally need a Phantom charger to use with the charging base. Unfortunately, I just went to test the 6-in-1 Mavic 2 charger we have on the website and it charges the controllers through USB so it won't work with the CS charging base. My suggestion would be to find a used Phantom charger on eBay to use for charging those cells. It's a great display but does have a few interesting wrinkles like the charger you have to get used to.

      Thanks for the post and it will be a few weeks before I have these back in stock. The first generation of the product had a few issues and they are upgrading the protection circuits and releasing a Generation 2 device that I expect to have in the beginning of December. Same price as the Gen 1 version. Thanks for the interest and check the website for updates. Thanks, Rick

      Rick, thank for your quick response. Also can you answer this question for please, I have just bought the new Mavic 2 Zoom and I have a question for you. I'm getting an error message on the R/C under (Aircraft Status) it states. (Radio Channel Quality Poor) How do I fix this issue? Thank you for all of your help I do enjoy your channel.

      I've been flying both models of Mavic 2 for a few months now and haven't seen that issue. It can be caused by a few things. Make sure your antenna are extended and parallel to each other. You also want to see if there is additional interference in the area with the Wifi signals. Even though the M2 uses Ocusync, it still rides in the ISM band and can be affected by noise. Another possibility can be the phone/tablet your using with the controller. If possible, try borrowing a friends phone to see if you still have the same issues and always turn off Wifi when using the phone with the controller. The last thing I can suggest would be to try one of the range extenders that slip over the antenna to increase your signal strength. They are inexpensive and really do work well. Give those things a try and let me know how you make out. Rick

      RIck, I would like to let you know that the problem with my Mavic 2 zoom was corrected by downloading the latest firmware update on the aircraft. Now it states (Radio Channel Quality Good) not (Poor). Thank you for all of your help. I will be looking for some new accessories from your website. Phil

    I'm not sure I'd be keen on getting an AC charger from a manufacturer who I can't find on the web.

      Dan, thanks for the post but you'd be buying the charger from us and we stand behind everything we sell with a full warranty. Like I mentioned in the clip, I've tested a number of different charges to find the best of the bunch to offer on our site. I've carried other models of these for the Mavic, Phantom, Spark and Mavic Air so I can assure you that they work well. I hope that helps and thanks for stopping by. Rick

      Thanks for the post and the challenge for DJI is balancing the weight of the charger with the output power. They want to make it small enough to be portable but that limits how fast they can charge the batteries. The advantage of the newer 6-in-1 charger is that it can supply 4.5A to all 4 cables and allows you to charge all of your cells at the same time. Rick

    What do you think of the new law where cops can shoot down any drone that they deem a threat?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post but it's a little more complicated than people are saying. The bill was just signed into law as part of the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act and one of the provisions in that bill outlines the ability of law enforcement to commandeer a drone that is posing an immediate threat to safety. This is intended to protect stadiums, airports and other areas that are official No Fly Zones from bad guys. The concern is that currently anyone can buy a drone and wreak havoc anywhere and the new bill opens the door for both tracking and disabling quads that break the law. You won't have to worry about any of that as long as you fly safe. I think that's a good thing.

    It’s crazy. The FAA is literally killing off hobbyists with the new 2018 rules and besides a couple of TH-cam channels ( like drone works) the rest of the TH-cam drone channels are pushing things like charging options. I like your channel a lot rick but really your going to be a thing of the past if you don’t get you and the rest of your followers involved

      Thanks for the post and the fear of these new regulations are really overblown. Most of the clips you reference are talking about the House version of the bill, which has since been changed by the senate and passed and is now in force. It's a lot different than the original one those channels are talking about. I am working on a clip to explain the changes but it's a lot to cover and taking longer than I expected. In a nutshell - Section 336 is gone and anyone flying is now considered a hobbyist and need to follow the same rules. Part 107 is commercial operation and eventually all drones will need to provide a digital license plate for identification when flying. All reasonable changes since we're going to be sharing the skies below 400' very soon with autonomous drones from Amazon and Fedex that are flying BVLOS.

      Drone Valley thanks rick. Sorry for the alarmist rant but I do love this hobby and want to be able to keep this passion alive. I look forward to your video

      No problem, that's why I started the channel so fliers could talk about things that affect our hobby. These topics are important to our hobby and we all need to understand how they affect our flying. I'll do my best to cover all the sections of the new law on the channel but it might take a few clips.
