    I've been fascinated by the Falklands since learning about them during the war. I've tried to imagine what life would be like as an islander, and it just seems magical in a sense, like a step back to a seaside village a century ago. Great pictures of those beautiful islands, and best wishes from Texas, USA.

    I’ve spent 3 years in total on the Falkland Islands between 1984 - 2016 and I can confirm that visiting one of the many smaller islands, Sxxxxxx Island, in early summer is the best experience I have had. The wildlife is amazing .. (and I’ve been to the Galapagos) Severe winters do not occur every year but I did experience a bad one when the diesel froze in the Land Rover and the blizzards created huge snow drifts so life here is one of contrasts. The people are very easy going unless you mention the war.

      From the tiny, tiny bit of experience we had, I can only imagine how spectacular it must be to have experienced the Islands in all its glory. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave the comment and we’re both very jealous!

      I will let you into a secret - myself and 8 work colleagues chartered a Falkland Islands Government Air Service Islander airplane and pilot (sheep shearer on day off) and flew to a selection of outlying islands. These planes are great - landed on the beach on Pebble Island, landed on grass fields elsewhere. The fact is these planes are reserved for the use of the Islanders and so only Sundays available, and then only in summer, so this was indeed something special - animals, especially seals, have little fear of humans as these islands are so isolated.

Although when MPA’s main runway was closed for resurfacing & repair, 2 x B767’s would arrive, a couple of hours apart, refuel, reload, change crews before going back North whilst the Crews got to enjoy ‘Wednesday Walkabout’ in Stanley with the Brintels guys or a cross country run out in a Landrover to San Carlos Water, Fanning Head and some of the Battle fields.

      @@MandyandAntonysTravels The islands are indeed brautiful. I volunteered to go there in '94 simply due to their location. I have traveled widely both as a tourist and in the military and it's always easier to fall in love with a place when you are there for a short period of time. The realities only set in when you reside there for substantial periods of time as I found out when I went to live in Labrador, Canada with my 2nd wife when I left the RAF. I should have known better especially after being detatched there in the 90s. I now live in South Carolina and am a US citizen. Britian will always be my home. There are lots of places I wish I had visited back home. If I ever come back to live there (if homes ever become affordable again!) I will certainly endeavour to see more of our beautiful and historic country......if there is still a United Kindgom, that is! 🇬🇧🇬🇧

    Great tour Great filming except for the music - please re-edit featuring the natural sounds of the land which is what people want in videos such as this. I would not be critical about the lack of ambiance if your video was not worth it. I will, however, subscribe and can not help happily rendering your well-deserved LIKE. You may enjoy reading the TRUE HISTORY of the Falkland Islands from the date after the Spanish finally expelled the British in 1774 thus leaving the Argentinians to freely inhabit the islands in 1820 after Argentina got their independence in 1816 only to be physically forced out by the British in 1833 after the British asserting its claim in 1832. Remember there was no United Nations or ICC back then only the English to write the history books on the land grab. But since Argentina continuously proclaimed territorial and sovereign claim on the islands since the time of their forced expulsion, the claim by the sovereign state of Argentina is legitimate.

    • @MandyandAntonysTravels
      @MandyandAntonysTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much for the feedback Matthew and I definitely will take onboard your suggestions about the natural sounds. I read this yesterday and have been thinking about it since then. Yes I will re-edit it!
      You might like to have a look at the video we made, sailing from the Falklands to Cape Hope. There you’ll hear much more “soundscapping” which I think is what you are referring to.

      @@MandyandAntonysTravels I must apologize if I sounded curt about your video . But I would not be critical if the video was not worth watching. In fact, It is among the best I have ever seen even by professional productions. I have read so many comments about other video postings wanting to experience the acoustic ambiance of the setting rather than the music or unnecessary verbiage so to enjoy the presentation - and share your experience. Again, I am sorry for being obstinate. I see that we share the same interests about remote and desolate islands and beaches and I am sure you have explored the Scottish Isles. I know that you would enjoy visiting the Dutch Friesian Islands and would relish to the point of envy watching your videos about them. And not the beat the dead horse but I wish your video about the Falklands was a bit longer, if you have more material, please include it; perhaps just the excuse for a return visit. Tot Ziens!
      As a post script about the same matter, I have been fascinated with the Falkland Islands ever since the evasion in 1982 while I was serving in the United States Coast Guard, which enhanced my acute naval interest in the topic. Keep making films, be safe and well, and please be in touch. And by-the-way, what gear are you using to make your suburb videos.

      Hi Matthew, what you have said in your original comment is simply not true. There were no Argentine protests after the signing of the Arana-Southern Treaty, and none at all between the years 1833 and 1888. Moreover, it was not brought up again as an issue in Argentina until the Argentine Congress of 1941.
      You need to check your facts and educate yourself on this subject. Not buy into unverified Argentine propaganda, first written by the fascist junta of the 1980s.

    I don´t expect you, as a brittish old couple, to agree with us on the matter. But I cannot omit the fact that the Islands are in effect a territory of Argentina, and our claim for sovereignity upon our seas is for ever. It's important to end colonialism in all its forms, because it showed to be the genesis for violence and the genocide of entire populations.

      @@MandyandAntonysTravels , you are a citizen of one of the most militaristic and warmongering nation in history, as in the present. The state of the art weapons the UK have are not for defense purposes. They are for offensives purposes. The damage made to millons civilians dead in Iraq and Afghanistan is dramatic. The exploitation of their natural resources on your country's own benefits, does not fits with your view that boundaries should not exist and your hope for a better future.
      Imagine if the north sea oil was exploited and militarised by a foreign power all these years creating a huge energy and economic crisis in the UK. Will you still think boundaries should not exist?. Would the UK let China colonize the isle of wight?.
      I share your view, but i cant never consent the exploitation of our territory by a colonial power, the same way the british would not accept the exploitation of the north sea by a foreign power.
      The most humanitarian thing you should hope, is that both nations solve their differences peacefully, with armony and friendship. Colonialism still exist in this century. But with money, its more easy to hide it.
      Oh and another thing. Argentines do can visits the islands. But they cant buy lands, or be a teacher, or a doctor, or a lawer, or a judge, or be the governor, or a member of the "legislative", or reside there, or work there, or invest there. But if you were born in britain you can do all those staff and more. So where is the people with self determination rights?. Does that fire chief officer born in Britain feels more "falklander" than british?. I guess he even voted in the "referendum".
      Cheers

    Malvinas Argentinas !

  • @MB-ct4zj
    @MB-ct4zj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Malvinas island were part of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. When Argentina gained independence from Spain, it acquired full sovereignty over the islands. Soon after, the Argentines are expelled from the islands and the population is replaced by citizens from England. At that time, England forbids the Argentines to enter the Malvinas Islands in the hope that after 100 years, they will acquire sovereignty over the islands under the principle of prescription. In 1965, England renounced this argument before the UN, since Argentina had never renounced its sovereignty and therefore the principle of prescription was inapplicable. From then on, England defends its position under the principle of self-determination, but this principle only benefits the colonized part and never the colonizing. Since the Kelpers are the descendants of the colonisers, it is the Argentinians who should have the right to self-determination. It doesn't matter how many soldiers there are on the island, it doesn't matter how many weapons and missiles they have. The times where the powerful overcame the weak are over. Argentina is a country of peace and we will recover our islands through diplomatic channels. I respect and admire the British people, but Argentines we are patriots and we will never renounce our territory.

      I think you should check the "census" too. 97% of the population is of british origins.
      The chief justice, the President of the Court of Appeal, all the lawers, the Two Justices of Appeal, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General are composed by people born in Britain and not from Chile or Argentina.
      The Educational system, the teachers are also imported from Britain or its BOTs and carried on by people born in Britain.
      The Health System, its doctors and specialist are also imported from Britain and carried by britain born citizens.
      The executive is composed by people born in Britain and historically, its legislative were always composed by a mayority of people born in Britain.
      The economy is run mostly by the colonial regime and by the FIC. The Feudal "Falklands Islands Company" that directly or indirectly control the life in the islands.
      Without mention the military and the engineers, or this fine Chief Fire Officer that do not miss the UK.
      This is no different to the "british antartic survey" team. There can be a french or a german scientific but it will be a british expedition. Nonetheless, it will not makes the antartic british either.
      It is not my intention to make a political stand on a turism and non political video. But decolonization involve us all.

      Based on your logic you are Spanish....have you ever asked yourself why you speak Spanish yet you live thousands of miles away from Spain ??...Obviously you haven’t yet you seem to want to apply this logic to the Falkland Islanders. In the case of the Falklands the British did not impose themselves on an indigenous population but the Spanish did in South America before Argentina was even born.

    • @liberatoar
      @liberatoar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nonono, Im not spanish and im not claiming that their ancestors were of british origins, or about their language that is english. Im claiming that literally, the population living in Malvinas, are composed mostly by people born in Britain. Located in the other side of the planet. It is not about a colonial heritage, which we all have. Its about their present colonial regime. What i said in the other message, about the the chief justice, the President of the Court of Appeal, all the lawers, the Two Justices of Appeal, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General etc, etc.. I did not meant that they had british ancestors or that they spoke english. I ment that those public servants were litterally born in Britain, all of them. The job offer for those candidates, are published in Britain.
      Did you know that, there are argentine citizens that were born in the argentine bases in the antartic?. Should they claim self determination rights over the antartic?. I know it would be illegal for the antartic treaty. But if Argentina says we are not claiming self determination (so not breaking the law), it is the people born in the antartic, so ask them?. It would be a basic human right of self determination enshrined in the charter of the United Nations or the intent of Argentina to grab all the antartic?. Should they make a referendum to see if they feel argentinians or scientific of a scientific base?. The comparison is the same absurd as the present british colonialism of 10 territories in this 21 century.
      Every political group, the 77 plus China, the OAS, the UN, consider the islands are in a colonial situation and recomends a sovereignty negotiation between the UK and Argentina. The UKs greatest ally, the USA, considers there is a sovereignty dispute and recognize there is a british DE FACTO government in the islands. And that is to say too much knowing that in every UN decolonization resolutions the only two votes against it belongs mostly to the UK and the USA.

    • @fdr3170
      @fdr3170 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand your point.. Same happens in the Uk.. There is a large amount of foreign people from many different backgrounds.. A lot of Asian people and Eastern European people..The UK clearly has been destroyed..its ethnicity, its culture..
      The UK is no longer a very British place.. So I think this is like a bit of karma.. Anyway I have to say about the British foreign policies, average people from that Country don't have anything to do with that..this is all about power and money obviously.. The history shows how England always wanted to conquer different parts of America.. Central America and South America.. They never were able to defeat Spanish in the war and conquer.. So they ended up doing it through "diplomacy" taking adventage.. That's the way they did it.. That's the way they still doinf it.. Influence and "diplomacy"..
