Watched this plane coming and going for years, as it's arrival usually coincided with my departure from work. I got more emotional than I expected watching this video knowing I won't get to see it again.
Wow, another beauty video Ernest. I'm happy you shared this with your Dad, who clearly inspired you the awe of avaition. Gotta luv the respect and consideration by TO's ATC on a older doll's last visit. Thanks again.
Thanks! Absolutely, and thanks for reading the description to get that fact, few people caught it but I had to take my old man out for this bird ;) he’s the one who started me off on this. Yes, ATC handoff for this aircraft was amazing.
Thanks a lot for ur amazing work Ernest, I cried when it took off from runway 33 that day everyone was on Runway 6 we saw people rushing so we went to see take off on time it was a very sad moment, emotional moments, I witnessed my favorite klm MD 11 went on 2014 October from Pearson, and now 747 go,and British airways and Lufthansa will retire their 747 on 2025 ,but who knows if even that would fade as quickly. Pearson airport won't be the same without 747 ,but that's reality we have to live with it .Thanks a lot Amazing job u always do .
Thanks! I have to admit I got a little emotional too as it went by. We heard 15L for departure so we booked it over there. I witnessed the MD-11 go out too, not an easy sight but that’s reality.
I remember the first time I spotted the KLM 747. And between then and now I developed huge interest in the aircraft, and KLM has become one of my favorite airlines. KLM will never be the same without this majestic bird in the skies. And with that, I bid my deepest farewells to an iconic aircraft, from an iconic airline. Farewell 747-400.
Agreed! For me, it was always the catch when I was a kid out with my father- whenever we caught KLM we went home happy, if we missed it the day went to waste. I’ll always have a fond memory of it, nothing like the Dutch Queen!
Thanks Ernest for all that you do, rain or shine, hot or cold. You are very much appreciated by our YYZ community. I am gonna miss this big, blue gal! - Jeff Schapira
Touching moment between the crew and ATC. Sad to see these KLM B747s being retired from the fleet , I think passenger 747s will almost disappear, the coronavirus has just accelerated the retirement process as I see Qantas will retire their 747s too. Nice video please stay safe and well in these uncertain times
Rob Brown plane spotting Thanks for watching! Indeed, coronavirus has sadly accelerated the retirement of a lot of these aircraft, sooner than we have imagined. Unfortunately I never got to see Qantas 747’s but I’m glad I got KLM’s. Stay safe as well!
Beautiful video bro. You nailed it! Awesome that you brought your dad with you to say goodbye, to once more look at that blue 747 as you two have done so many times in the past. What a stunning last take off too, in the last light of the day, shining beautifully on Fox Tango. Great to hear the send off from ATC too, and you can clearly hear the emotion. I think this plane and the MD-11 made our friendship today buddy. I will never forget the amazing spotting day we had, and flying out of YYZ on PH-BFH. This video goes in my favorites, joining the last MD-11 take off from YYZ video from you.
Thanks Rudi! Absolutely, will have some pics going up on Facebook on it soon. Ah, thanks man. Yeah KLM has always been an iconic airline of mine- I guess we owe the airline our friendship. No regrets on that. The ATC Sens off was great, amazing stuff by them. Did get a bit emotional. Farewell to the Dutch Queen!
Me too but that’s what they did the day before. Sadly on this one there wasn’t a wing wave but with the sun I’ll take it. Excellent tour of the city too.
Thanks for making this video, Ernest! I too, was one who could not get up to YYZ to see it. Great commentary, and thanks for including the ATC audio; almost like being there! Going to miss those jets. P. S. - ironic the last was on March 27....We know what happened that day in 1977.

crazy how their 747s would still be flying for another year or so had it not been for the coronavirus. might not sound like much but if you stay in a city with a daily klm 747 service, that's you seeing that aircraft another 300+ times. unfortunately, the time came much sooner than any of us had anticipated.
This was very sad to watch. As far back as you can trace my comments, every video that includes one; be it yours, Ross', or Mylosairplanefan's, you could find me saying "my favourite part was the KLM 747". I was tuned into LiveATC to hear it's departure: very emotional. Thanks for capturing this Ernest. And now, for one last time on your channel, I get to say it: Awesome video man, I love the KLM 747 :)
Thanks! Yeah, she sure was an icon. One of my favourites to see too. The departure did get to me a bit, that surely was a sight. Farewell to an iconic aircraft.
PH-BFN holds a special place in my heart. It ended the legendary KL785 serice AMS-SXM-CUR I tried the upperdeck on it (AMS-LAX) Yet why do i cry for an old airplane. Because Its special and it always will be
That truck was a reminder that all of our biggest, most beautiful, and inspiring toys (and persons) leave us too early, too late, too suddenly. Breaking our hearts. I was angry when my Dad passed and when my first car died. Took me 20 years to forgive and get over the losses. Thank God for that Reminder truck! Breathe deeply slowly and count blessings from that which you lost!
The 747-400 still seems new to me. I use to work in the 747 -100 and 200 for PAN AMERICAN World Airways. Perhaps some airline may pick it up and continue flying it?
Unfortunately now it’s considered old technology and an expensive bird if we compare it to likes of the Boeing 777 and 787. Hopefully she’ll get picked up by another airline to continue life but at this point we’ve got no idea.

747 queen of the skies , love the KLM colors m hopefully this aircraft will fly on perhaps as a cargo carrier .
Send it to us UPS, we'll cut a door in it and get another 20yrs out of it

You don't have to, it's a combi. It already has the large cargo door in the aft port fuselage.
That 747 never fails to amaze me how such a magestic beauty can literally leap steeply into the thin air! What a rush!
