What a treat! I aways enjoyed his picking and his demeanor on stage. Thank you for this conversation with him. He was a special musician and gentleman.
Celebrating Jim's legacy today. This was such a wonderful conversation with him. Really captured the essence of who he was. Thank you!
Rest in Peace Jim. You were one of my son's heroes! We were planning to visit you this summer. So sad. It was so hard to call and tell him of your passing. He's only 13. You will be missed.
RIP Jim Mills. A true gentleman. May 5, 2024.
Way back in 1986 when I started playing banjo I used to set the record on slow speed..even sticking cotton between the turn table just to get the records slower then tune the banjo down and try and separate the banjo from the other instruments and play along ..it was challenging but fun ! ..but the most important ingredient is you MUST HAVE THE WANT . almost an obsession.
Great stuff..always loved Jim’s picking, still do!
Me too!
Just found out about Jim...I'm gutted..was lucky enough to see Kentucky Thunder over here in the UK on Tyneside and while he was with Quicksilver at the Edale bluegrass festival way back now...such sad news and a GREAT LOSS..
RIP Jimmy.❤
Amazing interview! Really appreciate you bringing this to us!
You're welcome! He's a banjo hero of mine so it was my pleasure.
Been looking forward to this one for a while. Thanks for doing it Jim!
He's been at the top of my "most wanted" list since I started the show almost 5 years ago! I'm honored to finally have him included.

Well , I certainly enjoyed your interview with Jim Mills , he is a wealth of knowledge about banjos and bluegrass history , as well as a master of the 5 string banjo Scruggs style , which is my favorite.
Thanks for listening! Jim is one of the best, no doubt.
Jim, YOU are the choice of all the pickers I would like to emulate. I love your style, the balance, techniques, and joyful and soulful playing. All of that matches your genuine smile. That is a great nickname - smiling Jim Mills. I love you. God bless you.
