- The people of Palau -- a pristine ocean state made up of more than 300 islands in the western Pacific -- warmly welcome travelers to their home every year. But the guests don't always know how to protect the country's beautiful beaches and coral atolls. Enter the Palau Pledge: an environmental pledge that's now part of visitors' visas, where they promise to "tread lightly, act kindly and explore mindfully" -- while respecting the country's culture and heritage. My husband and I visited the beautiful country of Palau in 2006. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Beautiful country filled with friendly, beautiful people. We must all take this pledge and do our part. We only have one world. Let's save it for our children.

The Pledge sounds interesting. I hope it helps. I tend to frequent National Parks in America and often see people who seem to think that they own the park just cause they’re there for a day.
Trying to feed/touch the animals, taking souvenirs from nature, hiking off the path, carving their name into rocks/trees etc. it really bums me out when I see it.
If the pledge ends up working for Pulau then maybe we could do something similar in our parks here in the US.

Whatever happened to the Mystery Skulls of Palau?
Last I heard it was found to be a last burial place. It's located in the rock islands, a place made of smaller 1000's of islands and islets, so probably a place to leave unknown fallen. We Palauans have a tradition of burying our dead within our family land, so I suspect the island was used for unknown people

I've seen enough plastic that these people use. In boats, with glasses, and in diving suits.
They personally support the factories that produce this plastic. They drive boats that consume fuel and dump waste.
But they recycle them. Meanwhile, plastics from other countries litter Palau's beaches and the locals have to clean up the rest of the world's mess.
I mean what else can we do? Calling us hypocrites because we try to advance with the world is like calling a diver cheating because they can't breath underwater without oxygen masks. We need to thrive in this world as well. And if you'd like to know all of our waste is all imported from other countries to cater to capitalism and industry. Are we to blame when other nations have caused this predicament?
@@fiveoctaves In my opinion recycling only draws out the problem. We have made so much out of plastics and other nonbiodegradable material, but it still stands that they cannot be broken down naturally and safely. Eventually things that are recycled could become unusable and thrown away, which just passes the problem on to future generations.
When in Rome do as the Romans do. My country is different than yours and it is important to follow the values of the country you are visiting.
What about children of the world? Why not all unite and not just one small place on this big planet.
