Something I enjoy about the Sony cameras I have are all the lens options. I actually own all Sony native glass BUT I love that someone starting out has these awesome option that are affordable. My favorite lens is my Sony 135GM... the sharpness and contrast is other worldly, it focuses lightning fast and is an extremely bright optic.
Thank you for this video. After seeing this and wanting one, I realized that I can use my Tamron 70-300mm lens on my Sony A6300 and zoom out to 85mm. The only problem is that it doesn't have a lock focus feature. At 85mm it looks fantastic for distant subjects and getting a nice background bokeh. Your video helped me realize that. Thank you!
I am a new owner of the Meike 85mm AF f/1.8 lens. The price is understandably low ($200 USD) because the stepper motor is horrendously loud. AF is "late" but good enough, given the way I use this lens for still photography. Video? Fuggetaboutit with all that noise drowning out the birds chirping and the bees buzzing. And water sealing? I never need that. I keep all my stuff away from sand, filth, salt spray, and moisture, anyway. What I fear is losing some irreplaceable precious lens that I might own, from 50 years ago. So this lens will go in my travel bag, and if I lose it, I won't cry any crocodile tears over this. Meanwhile, the optics are very good! And the lack of pincushion or barrel distortion means I can take multiple shots, while camera is on (or not on) a tripod, and then stitch them together for panoramas. I might have bought a very reputable, and expensive, Sigma 85mm F 1.4 lens, but my diligence convinced me to keep looking. That Sigma lens has pronounced pincushion distortion, which all the reviewers said is easily correctable in Lightroom. Well, I don't own Lightroom, and I don't want to bother to fix pincushion distortion for every picture I stitch into a panorama. Yeah, I know that pincushion is loved by some, for its ability to make everyone look slimmer. Phooey on that, for $1000. THUMBS UP for this noisy, inexpensive, replaceable-if-lost optical champion!
I'm a beginner, and the part from 4:13 to 5:00 makes no sense to me (my untrained eyes can barely tell the difference). But I want to understand what you said. Do you have any videos that explain these basic concepts and give examples? Any keywords I should use to search for answers myself? Thanks
I'm about to buy this and knew I had to hear your opinion on it. Question, I have a Sony ZV-E10, a5100 as well as Nikon Z 6ii. I have a Sony EtoZ adapter so my question is this. Is the Sony E version of this the same as the Nikon Z excluding the mount? If so, I'll just buy the Sony version and use it with the adapter on my Nikon Z. Thank you.
I was gifted one of these lenses and tried it on an indoor natural light portrait photoshoot last weekend. I like it and will use it again but colour fringing on backlit photos was bad enough to render some of them completely unusable - but that seems to mostly disappear by about f4. Great channel BTW. Subbed. Best wishes from Ottawa.
Just watching this as I am in the market for a new lens. Is this better for portraits than 50mm? I need to start taking pictures interiors of homes too. I think my 16mm is good for that?
I am still using my Nikon 85 1,8 D lens on my D750. Loving it for portraits and more. It is one of my favorite focal lengths. Unfortunately this lens cannot be used on my Z6 with AF, and I have to replace it in the future.
Hi zdenka another hit . My fav lens at mo is eosm 32 but need advice :ie do I carry on with eos m or go Sony due to the mess canon has created .love your videos ,there always good
Favorite lens for everything is Canon 50mm. Great for everything although landscape takes some getting used to. It’s cheap as well $130 USD but on sale often. So small and light for street as well.
Help me decide. I’m a makeup artist and I’m looking for a lens that I can use mainly for beauty shots. The only lens I have is the meike 25mm and it’s not really ideal for close up shots. Should I get this one?
Zdenka I shoot lots of landscape photos, I am using a Canon M50 what lens would you suggest? This is what I have now. Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Canon EF-S 18 55 macro 0.25m 0.8ft Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens
Hi Zdenka, I have a Sony alpha 33 camera with 4-5.6/55-200 SAM and 3.5-5.6/18-55 SAM lens. I am enjoying portraits (blur background) of my family and landscape photography. Should I invest in a new Len? Will this Len or the Sony FE 85 1.8 telephoto Len work for my camera? Thanks
I am sorry, but I cannot answer this. I unfortunately don’t know your camera as I don’t have it, so it will be best to talk to someone who is selling these things. However, yes, if you buy a lens with lower aperture , you will get better blurry background.
Looks like can't find one for sony on E-bay only see EOS and Canon ones . Price is right . Your top link doesn't lead us to Sony one . Great video and lens for sure . price is right
Made in China- a copy of known companies. Most Chinese products of copied from Japan, Germany other countries' products and sell them cheaper, but they are now good in manufacturing tiny drones for civilians(used for military in Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan, etc). for example, some Japanese companies marketed small fishing Gizmoz and gadgets this month, ten plus Chinese companies are selling replicas on Alibaba or on eBay, etc. My supervisor at University was a Chinese student(Ph.D.) and I asked him what was his job in China. He told me that he and the other 4 engineers were busy reverse engineering electronics for a sewing machine from Japan. He also told me that the mechanical parts we did it quickly with programmed laser scanning each part and manufacutured them very quickly.
Thank you it seems like you’re the only one who has sensitive ears. What do you suggest because I don’t know how to fix it….. I tried and I simply don’t hear it
I only heard it in the voiceover segment 4:20 - 5:10 because this made me look for it. 😂 But it’s not bad enough to complain about for me. Maybe Apex is a professional audio engineer or something? 🦻
Great vid, I always go back to my nikon 24-120 f4, it just does everything , a jack of all trades, master of none but i think the picture quality is way better than some 'pro' reviewers. Also the sigma 150-600(non sport) has really amazing picture quality for the price for wildlife/action.
I am loving these type of videos that you are putting out lately 🙂 I love my 50mm mainly because I shot night Shots 😊 my second lens is my new Canon 70-200 F-4 now I do have a question where I shoot on a Canon 90D at 1.6 crop my 50mm turns into a 85 would I be getting basically the same type of shots you get with this 85mm?
Thank you very much for your support. If you get that focal length with the crop then I suppose it should be the same. I would have to see the photos side-by-side to be able to compare it
No lens flare hey? I used to have ‘em, then a year ago I moved to Nikon Z. Now I sometimes miss the flare. As you may know some software lets you add it in. Can’t please people uh? Always enjoy your vids.
That’s a great price for what appears to be a great lens Zdenka. I have high hopes of one day owning an RF 85mm f/1.2 L USM lens! But right now the RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM in my camera bag is my favorite! So, until my Piggy Bank reaches the proper level I’ll be relying on the 70-200mm! (I also have two RF primes: 50mm f/1.8 and 35mm f/1.8)
An 85 mm f1.8 is not for beginners. A 24 - 70 f2.8 is the most versatile lens in this class. Always buy good glass never buy cheap glass. Buy a used camera body spend your money on good glass. I have been a professional photographer for 50 years. I shoot Nikon, DJI, GoPro and Akaso my lighting is pro photo. Currently my projects are video with stills mixed in for an artistic touch. Do waste your money on plastic gear.
Comments like this will deter people from going for their dream. Did you always use expensive glass when you started your photography journey? And if so, you were fortunate, everyone can’t afford expensive glass, so a cheap alternative is a good thing.
Thank you for this video. You are one of the only people on here giving this lens any credit.

@@ZdenkaDarula Absolutely. At that price I can definitely tolerate some quirks. Some of the images were really lovely.

For interiors you have the right lens. The 82 mm focal length is a little bit nicer than 50 mm. It never hurts to have both

Zeiss Batis 40mm for street photography in Baltimore City.

Favorite lens for everything is Canon 50mm. Great for everything although landscape takes some getting used to. It’s cheap as well $130 USD but on sale often. So small and light for street as well.
I agree. That one has a permanent place in a camera bag
Im new to photography. Is this lens locked at 85mm or does it zoom to 85mm?
I would love a all in one lens that zooms between 25mm to 85mm for the Sony A6300. Any suggestions?
No, this one doesn’t have any zoom. It is a prime lens
