JuberLOL Yeah, Andy Serkis was in hobbit and LOTR, and plays Cesar in the new Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie, but this guy, as introduced, obviously is not Serkis.
poggymoose Lol much the same here. Although it made a lot more sense after a quick a google search and found that he was apparently a performer in Cirque du Soleil. Spent his entire life developing his strength, flexibility and proprioception in addition to acting/performing.
Norman is a fantastic interviewer. He really likes what he does and he is very enthusiastic about the questions he asks and the questions are very simple but relevant. This interview was very insightful. Great job.
Tested I also would have loved a longer segment, but it was really high quality for the short time video, and it was very entertaining and informative:) Great video Norm!
yeah, definitely have a better appreciation for motion capture now, and excited to see how it evolves/improves. would've loved to see more of the subtleties behind simulating the different apes species
I remember when I broke both of my legs within a month of each other as a kid. I have a rare genetic condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bones). I remember walking in a similar way with my crutches. Lol. Luckily for me, my many lower body fractures growing up left me with a lot of upper-body strength. I used to walk on my hands a lot instead of using crutches. Anyway, I can't wait to see the movie. It looks great for only being PG-13.
2 things, 1) this really gets me interested in the animal biology.. i would never have thought about the actors needing to learn how to walk like an ape, it really interested me and 2) that guy has a great butt.. ima guy too but still... definitely a video for the female viewers
Terry is fantastic. He worked with Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis on Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. From watching all of the bts for both of those films, Terry seems like a great guy. Extremely talented as everyone can tell.
I'm animating a gorilla in CG (keyframed).....wow, as reference it is amazing, not only the motion, but the explanation of behavior, thank you so much !
I need to get/make those arm extensions, I bet running with those gives the best cardio ever. Maybe adding some padding at the end of the arm extension, like with prosthetic running blades.
Yes, but I feel like breaking your arm with them would be really easy. If they get caught on something and you try and move your legs it's like a lever snapping your arms in two.
There’s something similar called quadrobics. They don’t use these crutches or necessarily walk exactly like this, it’s just walking/running/jumping on all fours.
I love this. We are apes. I feel such a strong instinctual feel with the chimp noise. Video is way too short, Norm should have tried more and harder. I gotta look up more of the pros doing it.
I suppose those are custom-made prosthetics just for this movie/film studio. Your best bet is probably to go to custom prothetics manufacturers in the medicine area, although a unique prosthetic definitely won't be cheap; I'd guess it's about 5000$ or more. Or you might ask film studios if they are willing to seel old props :P Might get lucky, if you know someone in film!
I have handicapped kids that have balance issues and those devices would be awesome for them for short transfers. How can I get my hands on those shortened crutches?
I was wondering about this for so long too. Sadly, there is no where to get them. but you can make them, I just made some today and they're very fun. I'll comment a link to the video tutorial
he definitely spent a lot of time studying the apes, he really looks authentic, even his facial expression
yep
Wow this guy is really good, I literally clapped for his acting.
Same guy who made and learned all the MC for LOTR and Hobbit :)
Viktor Bengtsson Really? Thanks for sharing, internet has hope =)
Viktor Bengtsson Are you thinking of Andy Serkis? Terry Notary did some movement choreography on the Hobbit movies but nothing for LOTR.

3:38 7 year old me going up the stairs
I'm 31 and I still walk up the stairs on all fours (hands and feet), usually in a dog-like fashion- almost a trot.

well that could have been about ten minutes longer
Felt so too. Looks like he's being interviewed by multiple shows though, not just tested.
I agree! but this was shot at a press junket, so they gave me a strict 4-minute time limit before cutting off the camera.
Tested
Regardless of time limit it was still really neat.
Tested I also would have loved a longer segment, but it was really high quality for the short time video, and it was very entertaining and informative:) Great video Norm!

Dude I want those extensions. I would love walk places with them, eat bananas, and chase people.
Ah yes chasing people
You can make then yourself, by shortening under arm crutches.
As a monkey I am offended sir 🙈. We don't just eat bananas...we love mangoes too.
WOW!! What an awesome actor. He was in character and made the animals come to life that he was portraying.
As an actor myself, I will give away a secret... Yes, making the noises is 100% necessary
And fun! ,-)
Half the fun is channeling your inner kid again and just … playing. Damn the goofiness.
❤
i love how quickly and absolutely he just switches into character

I am, with no exaggeration, in awe
Dude, I love apes, and this guy legit move EXACTLY like the real deal.
The way he moved like the different great apes was *chef's kiss*
Wow, that's amazing. This gives me a new respect for motion acting.

Now that I've done it it feels so natural, and fun too! Also a great excersize, I'm worn out lol 😂
RedFox Cat same
WOW !! how far we came. I am very glad that we no longer need to use animals to get the same experience.
Btw this guy is awesome.
This movie is AMAZING! Saw it last night
WHERE CAN I GET THOSE
its his breathing what put its all together, kudos
I can't wait to see this movie.
Don't quit your day job, Norm.
For once, I thought the background was green screen composite.
Great video.
I want this mans job
Why isn't this a trend sport yet? Seems like a sub-category of parcours. Where can I get crutches like these?
There’s something similar called quadrobics. They don’t use these crutches or necessarily walk exactly like this, it’s just walking/running/jumping on all fours.
So talented actors ❤
This is seriously good! xD Damn.
Wish they had those arm extensions on Amazon
Aren't those on Amazon!?
Great one....loved his acting!!

I used to this is childhood as a fun, wtf someone made multiple movies using this technique 😅
I need a set of those arm extensions.
That's impressive as all hell. Terry Notary. I'll remember that name.
that acting is amazing
Where can I buy some of those extended swing arms.
I love this. We are apes. I feel such a strong instinctual feel with the chimp noise. Video is way too short, Norm should have tried more and harder. I gotta look up more of the pros doing it.
Cool video! Really impressive performance from Terry!
5 months in? And still NO response on where I can fucking buy those!!!

Wow. This guy is an expert.
He's pretty damn good at reenacting the mannerisms
Does anyone have any ideas where or how to make those extensions for the arms?

just modify a pair of crutches. ultra simple.
You should know I really enjoyed this one.
(Coming from someone who watches 1/10 of the videos you upload)
This is very awesome.
very good video, congratulations tested!
I have handicapped kids that have balance issues and those devices would be awesome for them for short transfers. How can I get my hands on those shortened crutches?
This is awesome!!!!
It's fascinating how they make films these days, very realistic in a strange way.
Really interesting video. Great.
This guy need to be on joe Rogan experience and talk about it
That is preeeeeetty damn cool. Pretty, pretty cool.
Watching this makes me miss the three month period I spent crutch walking after breaking my ankle. So good for the deltoids...
Where can I get some of then arm extesions
This guy is amazing.
Why can't my arms be longer I want to do this
Humans just have longer legs than arms, so walking quadrupedally isn't too comfortable
Name of the item you have in your hand please🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Fantastic video quality!!
What camera was used to shoot this?
its sort of scary seeing someone act like that. Very good
Amazing acting
This guy is really good
Is that background a green screen? it looks hazey?
It's really amazing
they should have made those height stuff in arms have a shape that can grip the poles so they can also do the brachiation animations with cgi
well actually they can also brachiate without them too so no need for them
well actually they can also brachiate without them so no need for them
well actually they can also brachiate without them too so no need for them
well actually they can also brachiate without them so no need for them

I was wondering about this for so long too.
Sadly, there is no where to get them. but you can make them, I just made some today and they're very fun.
I'll comment a link to the video tutorial
You can just search "how to make ape arm extension" and click the first video
This is amazing xD i'm actually getting the itch to exercise like this outdoors then to run like every one does lol
Is there anywhere where I can get these!!
Nvm made one, thanks for telling me! Not.
squidplaysSTUf That's cool
Actually, humans' arms are about the same length as chimps' just we have longer legs.
I'd like to see that actor trying to imitate Norm. Now that'd be a real challenge! ^_^
What do they use to walk with
Amazing acting... wow
That was very convincing.
That guy is impressive!
I am going to the cinema right now
What kind of stilts are those?
Did anyone else think the background was a green screen 😂

He is incredibly good! But I still couldn't help to laugh a bit xD
But well done to him! :)
