Imagine people like Herbert Van Karajan and Alexis weissenberg lived for two centuries. How many great classic performances could they conduct and what an outstanding effects would they contribute to the world of music.
This is my favorate tempo of all time Tempos of this masterpiece nowadays are too fast. I know overall techniques of modern era pianists are improved than old days, but that's it. Not giving me a chill with such a solemnity. But Karajan and Weissenberg does.
Everything is a speed contest now. I think Karajan was great at extending phrases and taking time. You hear so much more. Wissenberg plays beautifully. This is wonderful!
35mm motion picture film always looks this good, if it's well maintained. Most 60s archival footage you remember seeing was either cheap 16mm newsreel, or telecine to video tape from film, which is why it looked like crap. Nothing to do with the age.
@@ingoodmusic Absolutely correct! There are recordings of the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, made for Philips and Argo(Decca)in the 60s and 70s, that combine a full, rich sound with a practically unequalled clarity of timbre across the aural spectrum. Same with Karajan's recordings from the same period on EMI ( DG not so much), and Colin Davis' on Philips. The Mercury recordings produced by Wilma Cozart Fine in the 50s and 60s are legendary for their superlative sonics. And of course the Solti Ring, 1958-1965, is an aural miracle yet to be surpassed.
Yes, it was several times remastered. I did one of them, quite likely the one you see here. The production is super interesting by its genesis - have a look at supernumerary's faces - people can be in two places at the same time!
Many thanks for your interest! The full performance is available in the Digital Concert Hall: www.digitalconcerthall.com/concert/212/?a=youtube&c=true. Kind regards, Alex H.
The video was staged with professionell equipment at the Berlin Philharmonie, director Åke Falck Music recording took place at Jesus-Christus-Kirche, Berlin-Dahlem
The video quality was already impeccable when filmed. They used 35 mm celluloid film which has a practical resolution of somewhere around 4k. The film scanner they used to create a digital version of the video outputted the resolution at 1080p, but if scanned today, I'm sure we could watch this concert in 4k!
Yes, yes
Really
This is perfection! I’m crying. Karajan was a genius!. Incredible concerto by the master Tchaikovsky..

Weissenberg a great master. An exceptional pianist.
This is the best conduction of this concerto on TH-cam. Everything is clear and properly exposed in the right time.
1967? Whattt? I thought this was filmed in 2007.
Karajans music and cinematography are timeless. Thats why.
*Petit Orenji*
Look at the orchestra conductor, Herbert von Karajan, here's looks young. He died in 1989 at the age of 81.
Poppy Tangerine I like your profile picture!
cuz classical musics are timeless! :D
Herbert would have found it difficult to conduct 18 years after his death.
Emozione unica ogni volta che ascolto. Poesia pura e sublime ❤️

Unbelievable quality for the year of recording (1967). Was it somehow magically remastered?

Nobody can hold a candle to Weissenberg when it comes to playing the Russian Romantic masterpieces.
Joshua Marcotte Van Cliburn was greater.

Forse la più bella interpretazione esistente.
