Forging Two Viking Age Fire Steels

  • These fire strikers are modeled after artifacts used during the Viking Age (793 - 1066 AD). We forged two strikers: one from a piece of drill rod that was recovered from a mountain trail and the other from an old file. The rocks used for throwing sparks were obsidian, Danish flint, and a quartz picked off the beach.

      Thank you! We were using the wood to try flattening out one side the striker without deforming the point on the opposite side.
