Forging Two Viking Age Fire Steels

- These fire strikers are modeled after artifacts used during the Viking Age (793 - 1066 AD). We forged two strikers: one from a piece of drill rod that was recovered from a mountain trail and the other from an old file. The rocks used for throwing sparks were obsidian, Danish flint, and a quartz picked off the beach.

Great video, what was the purpose of using the wooden block?
Thank you! We were using the wood to try flattening out one side the striker without deforming the point on the opposite side.
