Sorry to hear that Carol, each year it gets even tougher. I have no experience in Groningen. But one last resort option could be to get someplace temporary, for example maybe in another city even if not ideal. Then while you are there, search for a place in Groningen. Usually in student cities like Groningen, it is harder to find a place during August and September as all students are searching for a place but later the market cools down a bit.
There are ones that doesn’t ask for money! I suggest you try those. The paid ones aren’t necessarily better. In Rotterdam, I used Pararius and just mailed or called the rental agency so I didn’t pay anything to see the house or it’s pictures.

My child will go to study at Hague Campus Lieden University during September 2022, he is looking for a place near campus for a room sharing . Is there any recoomendation for him.
I recommend searching facebook pages like Hague student housing, rooms etc. There are a lot of people looking for roommates there. But be aware of scammers!

I don’t know much for Utrecht but the studio type places in the centrum that I saw are at least 1000 eur p/m.
