Did the theme tune take inspiration from the Donkey Kong theme music? That game came out in 1981, this show came out in 1989! I was born in 1987 so my introduction to Donkey Kong was the 90s Game Boy version with different theme music, at a later date when I got to play Donkey Kong Country on a friend's Super Nintendo, having still not played the original Donkey Kong arcade game by then, I thought to myself "DKC's theme music sounds like the Babar theme tune, I wonder why?"! In 2001 I played a friend's copy of Mario Tennis on the Game Boy Color and found a rendition of that same music that sounded to me like Babar's theme, and sometime after I found, on the internet, the theme music from the original Donkey Kong arcade game and... you can imagine how shocked I was!
I understand where you are coming from, although I doubt Milan Kymlicka got inspiration from the original Donkey Kong theme. Babar's theme is heavily inspired by Johann Pachelbel's Canon in C. The chord progression is pretty much the exact same...so similar in fact that you can even hum Babar's theme over Canon in C and it will fit perfectly. But speaking of Nintendo...but you should listen to the Ending theme of Pokémon Gold & Silver. Most likely pure coincidence (or maybe they were big Babar fans?), but the first few notes of the song are almost the exact same as the melody of Babar. Although the rest of the song is original and doesn't sound like Babar at all, the first few ones always make my brain a bit confused.
What a wholesome intro. So heartwarming.
You got that right!
