I was freaking out and struggling trying to make a bodice pattern for an 18th century inspired spring dress, and this video saved me. Thank you so much for the tutorial and the website with the measurements, it’s perfect!! ❤️❤️❤️
just made my very first corset following your instruction and it worked very very well! Thank you so much, this is the first video that made it seem doable!
Aww I am so happy for you! This kind of corset is one of the most enjoyable to make and I love that you can now make yours (in all kinds of colors, designs, etc!).
@@rebekahmui thank you for your kind reply! It was indeed fun and easy to make and it fits like a glove. thank you again, i will come back to your video when it's time for my next corset :)
I made this today and yesterday and couldn't be more happy how it turned out for my first corset top! It is not perfect but I am proud for making this alone! The tool is so genious and helpful. I love that you can just draw it and don't need a printer. Also I learned from your tips, for example the ladder stitch. So helpful!! Thanks a lot for the great video ^^
I’m almost a total beginner when it comes to sewing and just finished a top following this tutorial!! it was so fun and easy and the pattern worked very well! thank you so much!!
Oh wow!!!! That's so awesome. If you'd like to share a picture you can message me on Instagram @rebekahmui I hope you enjoy your top and have many more sewing adventures!
Hi!! I'm trying to make a "corset top/stay top" thing, and I was wondering if I had to do three pieces for the "front" or I could fuse two. Then I wondered if the pieces and sewing would make a difference on the structure. How weird this corset top is just ONE patter piece. WOW. I will try less pattern pieces. The less sewing the better!! (As I DONT have a sewing machine!!
The Elizabethan corset generator is really cool! I adapted it into an 18th century stays pattern as well. You can play around with the shapes once you get a fitted base piece. If drafting the pattern you can test it with a stiff fabric and see how the shape works for you.
omg thank you!! this is exactly what i was looking for!! hoping to put together an elf/fairy costume for the Texas Ren Fest in a few weeks to match with my step-daughter's. last week when we went, I had bought her a matching bodice & skirt at one of the hand-crafted costume shops at Ren Fest which is SO similar to yours - literally almost exact and was so expensive but i mean worth it bc it really is beautiful lol but now its my turn!! LOL Thank you thank you thank you!! I am so excited to try this out, thank you for sharing, beautiful!!
This is a great video!!! It's helped me a lot but I'm having some confusion as to how you sewed the straps on, I wish you had showed more of how to do that because I find the wording of the instructions to be kind of hard to understand. Am I meant to take out some of the top hem?
Great video! I've been thinking of making a top like this but I still have one question. When you sewed the fabrics together and then flipped them right side out you sewed the bottom and top parts as well as one side, so how did you get the boning in?
Hi Jouny! I recommend starting with the Elizabethan stays generator and modifying the style and shape from there because corsets are the most comfortable when they are made specifically to our measurements. It does take a little more time, but you start with something already perfectly fitted to you, and then just adjust like the length and aesthetics. The great thing is you can start with a larger Elizabethan pattern piece, and then try it on and cut it down to a "cottagecore" shape if that makes sense?
The rumors around corset discomfort come largely from poor fitting (i.e. buying a generic one off the interview). When the waist length, width, arm measurements etc. are custom-fitted, it feels great!
00:54 - 5:45 part one: the pattern (finished pattern at 4:20)
6:07- 7:40 cutting fabric (+ adding a back piece for the lacing gap)
8:05 - 8:47 sewing bodice together (except for one side)
8:49 - 9:26 trimming seams and turning bodice right side out
9:36 - 11:40 strap pattern + making straps
11:44 - 13:16 sewing straps on
13:50 - 14:45 boning structure
14:45 - 15:29 making zip ties for boning
15:52 - 17:08 first set of boning
17:10 - 17:36 raw edges
17:36 - 18:30 final set of boning
18:33 - 19:34 grommets
I made this guide mostly for myself to help me find my place while working on this, but I think it'll be useful for others too ;0
There are some very different and interesting techniques here. No binding... what a time saver!

You must have heard me thinking ...I'm thinking of making some corset tops, too! Thank you for "breaking trail" with this tutorial.
Awesome! Do let me know how your version turns out and if you have any tips and ideas or adaptations!
I like that you left the mistakes in the video and explained what went wrong. "It's all part of the process" should a sewing mantra lol!
It is indeed 😆!

Hi! I think that I took out some and sewed them to the inside (right side in) and flipped inside out. That's a bit tricky though
THIS IS SO CUTE THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Aww thank you!
thanks for the tutorial! : D
Welcome! Let me know how it goes!
Great video! I've been thinking of making a top like this but I still have one question. When you sewed the fabrics together and then flipped them right side out you sewed the bottom and top parts as well as one side, so how did you get the boning in?
Hi! Instead of inserting the boning from the top i inserted and sewed them in from one side to another.
where can i get the original pattern ☹to make the one like yours
