mary jane holland is the persona she took on while she was in europe. “lady of the ‘dam won’t be a slave to the blonde nor the culture of the popular” is about her being in amsterdam ditching her blonde hair to have fun without being recognized as gaga
I remember, she came to the restaurant to eat where I was washing dishes in Amsterdam back in my student days. She was celebrating Taylor's bday then in Amsterdam. That was Cheek2Cheek era hehe

@@SteelWool567 I remember that song. it was decent but it's not as memorable as Fashion! on ARTPOP is. the demo version of it is the best version for sure.
Swine is about Gagas experiences with sexual assault, and the anger inward and outward that it causes. The climb to the drop is supposed to be too long, anxiety inducing, uncomfortable, nauseating, so you kinda felt exactly what the song wanted you to feel.
Listening to ARTPOP in full again in 2020 really makes me realize how it’s so underrated (partially because the promotion was screwed over by her ex management team and she was at the time mentally and physically hurting, sighs) and I appreciate it even more now. She is always too soon for the world honestly. ARTPOP, like most of her works, is a trailblazer again that paves ways for the rest of them to follow!! ARTPOP deserved so much more😢💕 On a side note I recommend you watch her perform Dope’s demo version (then titled I Wanna Be With You) it’s better than the official track! 🥰
Artpop to me is her best album ever, I love Chromatica but I don't think she'll ever be able to top herself with this. The reason why you've only heard Applause is because her manager left her like a month before release, so the entire promotional campaign kind of went ass up and the album just was never promoted, like at all. She did release a music video for G.U.Y. however, you should watch it, it's so magical.
The song ARTPOP is actually insane. One of the most unique songs I've heard, especially coming from a pop emperess (at the time) In the first verse, art is singing to pop (“Come to me, with all your glamour and cruelty / Just do the thing that you do, and I’ll undress you” - "The *melody* that you choose" In the second verse, pop is singing to art (“Come to me, with all your subtext and fantasy / Just do the thing that you do, in a perverse hue” - "The *color palette* you choose" In the chorus, art and pop tell each other that they can belong together as one entity without separation or distinction. In other words, ARTPOP (one word). Not Art Pop, ArtPop, or Art-Pop. It's just so high concept wrapped in a mesmerizing beat served in the most delicate & strong way, a perfect hybrid. I've never heard anything like it EVER. Oh and don't even get me started on the lyric "Lovers' kites are flown on beaches for public sight" like why is that sentence so beautiful dawg why did I get chills down my spine just typing it? It's mind-boggling to me that this song is real.

@lrcastv yup. way better. chromatica is very good but born this way tops it. the whole concept, artistic vision and lyrics/meanings of that whole era just tops every other of her albums.
Artpop was a masterpiece 🙌🏻 totally underrated... Thanks for reminding that and I think it will be more popular in the near future... It might have been ahead of its time 🚀
If you like her vocals Joanne will be your favorite album. It is truly her most emotional album lyrically and also the albums where her vocals shine the most.
You´re so right about Bowie. His influence is clear to be seen. She learned from the best. P.S. Thank you for mentioning Bowie on Fashion!. The way she´s singing this song reminds me of Bowie singing Let´s Dance.

The fact that you literally had a spiritual experience listening to this, I am LIVING for it haha! ARTPOP is one of her best albums. It really annoyed me that it didn't do well because it deserved more
Artpop is Gaga's best album, unfortunately Gaga did not have the support of her record label and many people betrayed her, she took the song "Do what you want with my body" from her list for the complaints that Rapper R. Kelly had, Gaga had a bad time with this era, the album is wonderful 💓 I love your reactions.
this album makes me cry even with electronic sounds cause its so underrated masterpiece. its still my favourite gaga album and it changes lots of things in music industry. it is album of the millenium.
Not even gonna lie, Gypsy is my #1 Gaga song forever and always. When I first heard it I was in tears, and the bridge leading into the final chorus just hits you like a brick in the face with emotion.
it did go big, just not as big as the fame+monster or born this way it still was a huge album. Just because it wasn't as successful as her first three works it was labeled a flop, which it wasn't in fact it out sold miley cyrus's Bangerz and nobody ever called that a flop.
When she said about Applause ‘why is this the only song I know is this the only one that got big?’... I literally had flashbacks to 2013 and... it hurt
Gypsy will always be the most underrated Gaga song, it had everything to become a single: A catchy melody, vocals and fucking relatable lyrics. I’m glad you found that gem after many years, better late than never.
I know I'm too late but try listening to some of these songs that didn't make it to ARTPOP: 1) PARTYNAUSEOUS 2) Brooklyn Nights 3) Do What U Want (Removed) 4) I Wanna Be With You (Dope Original)
I loved ARTPOP and couldn't understand the lukewarm reception. So glad you liked it ❤ I hope a lot of people rediscover the album now Chromatica is out
Imagine Artpop was released in 2020 instead of Chromatica, where people are longing for her dance pop music, this album will be highly appreciated! Unlike in 2013....
Been a gaga stan for 8 years and ARTPOP is my favorite album of all time and Gypsy is my favorite song of all time I love this woman and hold her discography sacred so i'm so happy you like it
lmao i love the reaction to Jewel's N Drugs... Even as a Gaga stan I had the same reaction 7 years ago and subsequently deleted that song from ARTPOP on my itunes
Gaga has always been a genuis...people just had to catch up with her intelligence ... They didn't appreciate artpop when it came out now they see it as her best album... There will be a time that people will learn who revolutionary gaga was/is to music... and it will be a huge moment i history... i swea
I loved Artpop since it was released and have memorized the lyrics of its songs (except Jewels n Drugs) FOR YEARS!!! It’s truly an exceptional album. And that’s on period.
For me what happens with ARTPOP, its that was despised, even by the fans themselves, many hated it because compared to its predecessor Born this Way, it was not in the stature in sales or for the simple fact that they wanted BTW 2.0, which it makes me stupid to like an album for sales and not for its music and value for the artist. Like Little Monster and I don't know if it would happen to many the same, The first time I heard it, I think that because of the euphoria, it didn't seem like a big deal, but over the months and even years, I realized that it's unmatched, it's like his title, a work of art that many of us did not know how to appreciate or we realized late, when I see live performances, or I put on a song and listen with my headphones I realize that it is a gem, I think that when you listen to an album quietly without pressure that's when you connect and that's what happened to me. Please react to BTW and the other gaga albums, and as I say when you do listen to them carefully I know you will love them
The leaked demo for aura slaps so much fuckin harder than the released version, in the demo she's using those growling vocals and its EVERYTHING. To change the delivery of that first verse from sounding full of rage, shouting like only she can, to robotic talk singing was tomFOOLERY and every other gaga stan will agree. I remember when it leaked and I dropped everything literally in the middle of manhattan to listen in case it got taken down and those screaming vocals turned it, gurls she was the moment, never forget the Aura demo. Editing to add so much of ARTPOP was high camp and as an LGBTQ+ person I'll never forgive the world and our own community for its negative reputation. Unironically justice for ARTPOP
Ok... I hope you read this ... First of all, I love ur reactions, greetings from Colombia. We had A LOT OF PROBLEMS with ARTPOP, if u wanted to listen to some of the 'classic' Gaga you should react to BTW or maybe The fame. Still ARTPOP is a masterpiece. The whole idea behind the album was mixing Art into Pop (Or Pop into Art, not completly sure xD). Gaga tried to express a lot of her pain through this album, let's remember she had her hip surgery and all of this Chronic Pain stuff with her, also her manager left her somewhere in between BTW and ARTPOP. Is her most experimental album, people hated it... LIKE REALLY HATE, A lot of shade and bad stuff was thrown from the public in general, and there was no reason. People wanted the Gaga classical sound, but she was evolving into this woman who doesn't care about anything but making art which at the end of the day is an expression of something. The album is fantastic, amazing and I'm really glad that you react to it. Lots of love :3
okay.... your reaction to gypsy made me create an account just to tell you i loved it. honestly the happy bitter sweet but also hopeful vibes of this song give me life!
One of Gaga’s best album after Born This Way. This album is her most personal album. ARTPOP has so much strong intense sounding and beats and her lyrics are very deep. When Gaga said “I don’t remember ARTPOP”, I honestly think Gaga doesn’t wanna remember that era because she was suffering a lot during that era and Tony Bennett helped her from leaving pop music. Gaga had so much anxiety, depression, body aches, etc. This album is soo underrated.
Anyone who is criticizing Chromatica is not a fan or little monster. Chromatica is pop excellence. It’s a grown up version of Artpop. That’s on periodt.

her best album, a masterpiece, period.
her best album indeed
@lrcastv yup. way better.
chromatica is very good but born this way tops it. the whole concept, artistic vision and lyrics/meanings of that whole era just tops every other of her albums.
it IS
Artpop was a masterpiece 🙌🏻 totally underrated... Thanks for reminding that and I think it will be more popular in the near future... It might have been ahead of its time 🚀
If you like her vocals Joanne will be your favorite album. It is truly her most emotional album lyrically and also the albums where her vocals shine the most.
Her solo version of Do What U Want is brilliant. Wish it was the official.
first!!!!
i love you sis!!!
this album is a truly underrated album, and it doesn't deserve to be treated like that
Good job. Finally someone who knows what there talking about and is actually first.
Edward Chen periodt
Mario Milašinović literally, ME!
PEROODT
Artpop was light years ahead of its time. Now is such a gem I love it so much but it’s so underrated, I’m happy you enjoyed it.
Listen to Do What U Want... the version with Christina Aguilera. DWUW was in Artpop but Gaga removed it 'cause of the issue w/ R Kelly.
You´re so right about Bowie. His influence is clear to be seen. She learned from the best.
P.S. Thank you for mentioning Bowie on Fashion!. The way she´s singing this song reminds me of Bowie singing Let´s Dance.
I’m assuming you have no idea who Donatella Versace is
Donatella Versace is one of the main workers at the Italian fashion company Versace, alongside her elder brother Santo, who is the chairman of the board. Her other brother Gianni designed outfits for Madonna and Elton John back in the 80s and 90s. Gianni was murdered in 1997.
Robert Sparling we know 🙄
@@robertsparling917 VERSACE is EXTREMELY famous even today, literally 90% of the Met gala dresses throughout the years are made by Ateliers of Versace
@@Twelvefourtyseven Well I only knew that now so lol-
I recommend listening to Joanne, it is a wonderful album and Gaga's voice is impressive, you will fall in love with her vocals
Some of the promotion was sickening and extensive so...
Yeah, it's really sad since it's my favorite album of hers. 😞❤🌈
I only like Gypsy, Dope and Applause on this album :( I have more favorites on her others.
this album makes me cry even with electronic sounds cause its so underrated masterpiece. its still my favourite gaga album and it changes lots of things in music industry. it is album of the millenium.
This album came out my freshmen year of high school this was literally my best friend 😍 It makes me so happy to see other people loving it 💕
To be able to go back to 2013 and hear aura for the first time again. An actual masterpiece
Not even gonna lie, Gypsy is my #1 Gaga song forever and always. When I first heard it I was in tears, and the bridge leading into the final chorus just hits you like a brick in the face with emotion.
React to her "A Star Is Born" official soundtrack its full of songs that really showcase her vocals!!! Luv ur reaction 🖤
When i heard artpop when it was released i thought it was gonna be big
I thought it would take the charts over but it flopped.
@@clown4286 not really. He was on the top 3 charts of a lot of country and he sold more than 3 millions copies.
It did the monsters love it😃
Well it wasn’t really a big flop, everybody knew Gaga was releasing they just hated her
it did go big, just not as big as the fame+monster or born this way it still was a huge album.
I’m glad you found that gem after many years, better late than never.
when you realize she didn’t get to hear do what u want 😭😪
IKR?! The best song on the album. Controversies aside, I prefer the version with R Kelly.
Titus Judah yess the original was soo good, one of my favorites 😭
michelle mary yess she should re release an updated version cause it’s nowhere to be found lol
@@matts_curls the Xtina collab is on Spotify as a single
I have a physical copy of the original pressing of the album on CD and it has "Do What You Want".
You have to see Gaga's live versions of these songs. She is a true perfomance artist
I have never understood, still don't understand and will never understand how people didn't like this album when it came out
I know I'm too late but try listening to some of these songs that didn't make it to ARTPOP:
1) PARTYNAUSEOUS
2) Brooklyn Nights
3) Do What U Want (Removed)
4) I Wanna Be With You (Dope Original)
Brooklyn nights deserved be released at least as the cure is so good
I love how she just went silent when Dope comes on, and she's just feeling the song.
Been a gaga stan for 8 years and ARTPOP is my favorite album of all time and Gypsy is my favorite song of all time
I love this woman and hold her discography sacred so i'm so happy you like it
I think “free woman” is “Gypsy’s Daughter” but Gypsy & fashion are my favorites off ARTPOP and Chromatica is my favorite Album by her.
Listening to ARTPOP for the first time after 7 years of its release omg where were you gurl come on you couldn’t missed that one my goooood
lmao i love the reaction to Jewel's N Drugs... Even as a Gaga stan I had the same reaction 7 years ago and subsequently deleted that song from ARTPOP on my itunes
Gaga has always been a genuis...people just had to catch up with her intelligence ... They didn't appreciate artpop when it came out now they see it as her best album... There will be a time that people will learn who revolutionary gaga was/is to music... and it will be a huge moment i history... i swea
Everyone hated artpop when it came out too and now its considered one of her best. Its gonna be the same with Chromatica
Please react to BTW and the other gaga albums, and as I say when you do listen to them carefully I know you will love them
You reacting to Gypsy for the first time was so incredible ugh I would love to listen to that song for the first time again 😭
for me it's her best album! such a masterpiece :)
I don’t care what they say, Chromatica is one of her best records
Bdelloid Duke idk but everyone I know and see online love this album 🤷🏻♂️
@@robbyb.8905 Time makes something great
@@robbyb.8905 Same to me. Idk if i'm in a bubble or something
Juliana Nobre you’re in a bubble sry
@@LucasSilva-ju4vs right
One of Gaga’s best album after Born This Way.
Born this way will absolutely rock your socks off!
Fun fact: Will.i.am produced Fashion!
@@carsonbarnesharp he did a really good job with the song. It sounds very Gaga in a will.i.am way
in the reaction video, she said she heard will.i.am or something.
That...actually makes a lot of sense
Whoa, what?! 😱😍
18:30 is every little monster since the beginning of the album, I love it! 😍
MANiCURE SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE AUSTIN AND ALLY THEME SONG OMGGGGG
IT DOES AND IT RUINED IT ALL FOR ME SIWKKSSKKSKWMS
