- Hey guys! Today I am doing another "squishy bakeover" where I take one of my squishy creations from my squishy makeover series and attempt to bake and bring it to life. These are always such a cluster of fails and struggles since I obviously have no clue how to bake properly. But you guys ask for it, so here it is!
Today I attempted to bake an "ice cream drip cake." I'm a beginner obviously, so this was pretty daunting. There were a lot of steps and the cake decorating was not super easy. I think I need to figure out how to use other cake decorating materials other than buttercream or frosting 😂

It seems that my use of olive oil is triggering to many people 😆 The google told me that it was ok to substitute vegetable oil with olive oil, but I guess not lol. I make a lot of mistakes, I know. I’m obviously not very good at this haha

I think that Moriah is inspirational and funny and I just love everything about her. As a young girl (borrowing her dad's phone) I just think I could never do this, especially on camera. She's just so hard on herself. I've watched all of her videos a few thousand times and one thing I always remember her saying is "Its okay... it could be better" and I'm thinking 'I could never do that, so what its lumpy or has terrible drips, I would make it way worse.😊
I love looking back at Moriahs older videos! it reminds me and probably her how much she's changed over the years!we love you moriah and we'll always have your back and be there for you!

Hey Moriah! Just a couple of tips for next time.
1- When applying frosting to a cake, do a crumb coat first. It helps the crumbs stick to the cake and it makes it appear neater as well. After that, just apply another layer of frosting.
2- If your cake is slanted, add small “sticks” to make it stable. (You can literally use chopsticks if your in a pinch) Look up stakes for cakes online to find out more.
3- Freeze your cakes before you ice them. Warm cake melts icing.
4- Chocolate ganache works best for your drips.
5- Decorate your cakes before you layer them., It prevents a couple issues.
6- Use Rice Krispies for shapes (the ice cream scoop) Then ice over it.

TIP: add a crumb coat to your cake before doing decorations like you did. a crumb coat is just a thin layer of frosting used to smooth out the cake.
TIP 2: use a cake leveler to level your cakes instead of a knife. a cave leveler is a tool used to level the top of the cake for stacking.
TIP 3: use stackers if youre gonna stack your cake. stackers are little circles of cardboard you put inbetween layers so the cake doesnt collapse in on itself.

Notes: use a crumb coat before adding the “pretty” icing. Separate tiers need to be iced separately to avoid the smearing of the bottom tier. Still really cute! These are some of my favorite videos

You are so good at fixing things! For a beginner YOU ARE AMAZING!
Two things that might have made the whole situation easier:
-Using ganache instead of chocolate which would dry firm (super easy just melt chocolate with heavy cream)
-Poking chopsticks into the bottom layer and stabbing the other cake on top so it wouldn’t accidentally fall.
Sam also, crumb coats and icing the entire bottom cake first, putting on second later, and icing that... also making sure the cake is in the fridge to set it so when you put on icing, it won’t melt🤷🏼♀️

The crumb coat isn't to make it stick to the cake, it is to make sure that no crumbs come through in the final coat giving it a flawless look

I used to make cake with box mix all the time, but one time I forgot that I left the stand mixer on, and 30 minutes later, I finally figured out what the whirring sound was.
That was the densest cake I ever had, and it looked like flesh....
And it had the worst texture, that I have wiped from my memory....

I've noticed that you've been sifting by tapping the seive against your hand, that's one way to do it but it can be incredibly tedious. Another way to do it is you can hold the seive above your bowl with one hand,and with the other you can whisk the powder out with a metal whisk. This gets the job done way faster and also gets the little pebbles that tend to form at the bottom. Hope this helps! 👍

When decorating a cake use white for a crumb coat to prevent crumbs come going in the frosting ☺
I second this advice! 👍 Also it's helpful to use cake boards under both cake layers so you can decorate them separately before putting them together. You would add the border to the top cake after putting the one on top of the other to cover any gaps or imperfections. The cake board for the top layer would need to be cut small enough that you wouldn't see it after adding the border. Try following a chocolate ganache recipe for any drippy details in the future. It hardens nicely after cooling to give some structure to the cake but not so hard you can't cute into it. Hope you found this helpful. 😉💜 Love your channel. To make the drips on the cake you can always try to make a chocolate ganache. It's basically a mixture of chocolate and milk/cream. I would probably try like 2 parts chocolate and 1 part cream
I was thinking the same exact thing lol if I’ve learned anything from watching the cake boss it’s that chocolate ganache and a crumb coat/dirty icing is your best friend!

Tip: next time you make an ice cream scoop you can use the leftover cake scraps and mix them with frosting to make a cake ball then just cover it with frosting/colored white chocolate. Hope this helps!
