I just downsized into a condo and had to sell my gorgeous lighted 8 ft tree. I've been searching for a "One sided" tree that will fit into a corner. (there's simply no room for extras in a condo LOL). And your pencil tree will be awesome.
Actually I did this on my large deck (past house). I bought the cheap garland from $$$$$ store (several) and used the tomato cage idea in two beautiful modern tall clay pots and my neighbours thought I had two gorgeous fir trees potted on my deck for years. They lasted for 18 yrs BTW. Also FYI the cheap stuff from the $$$ store looks just fine once fluffed and for Christmas I would buy a can of Flocking spray and spray it white and add some Boa feathers and maybe some white poinsettias and silver bobbles. Happy making.

I love these so much! I especially love the trees on the wood. I think it looks so classy! I cannot wait to build a couple myself! I was thinking that not only are these great for Christmas but if you're just attaching the garland with wire or equivalent, you could easily use this for any time of year and just put a different garland on there! I've been looking for something cheap and easy like this that also looks amazing and is TALL! Thank you so much for putting your dream into a reality and inspiring us all!!!

Awesome.. I am going to make mine today.. I am going to try and add a smaller tomato cage "top end first" and place it over the larger one.. That smaller cage should stop half way to on the lager cage. It will hopefully keep the width and taper up in height.. Thank you so much for this amazing idea!!

Your son is adorable and I love that he was taking the little lights behind the tree my kids always did that that's a mom that way you don't have to get up and move around will do it for you and that's such a special memories for me and these are adorable and like our Christmas tree is actually a piece of Garland on just a steak that's only maybe three feet high because we just don't have the room for the large tree that I used to have before I moved in to take care of my dad but that's okay because I've been sitting it on the table in front of the window and so you can still see it from the outside and it's still just as beautiful just doesn't have as much but I put more decorations out to make it happy for me and that's why I've been watching everything you make because it's giving me so many ideas and fun things to do in like the Frosted mason jars I have hundreds of jars because we've canned my whole life and my mom kept everything and I just have lots and just lots of things that I'm making pillows out of the placemats it's and just things that I never thought of before and I just want to tell you thank you because you've made decorating different where I didn't have to go and buy something to put their you know I love that

These trees are absolutely FABULOUS Emily!! I love each of them and they'd be wonderful lining my front porch so I guess I'll be heading back to WM for some flocked garland. Fortunately I already have the tomato cages and lights so it'll definitely be a less expensive project than purchasing the trees, which was my original idea. You're always so creative with fantastic directions. Seeing Elijah today was a spectacular bonus (he has such a beautiful face!) and hearing the boys in the background keeps everything real. (My kids are grown and I miss that.) Thanks so much for sharing and I can hardly wait to see what you've got in store for us next. Enjoy the rest of your week. ~HUGS~

I have a favorite method for adding weight to the base of a stand or outdoor container. Thrift a useless floor lamp or some exercise weights. The base of the lamp usually contains a weighted insert that is easily removed. The insert looks like somewhat like a doughnut, roughly a foot in diameter. It is a hollow plastic disk that is filled with sand and then sealed shut. There are exercise weights that have similar construction, a flat round disk with a hole in the center. Such weights are tidy, waterproof, and a more convenient solution than bricks, landscape rock, or a concrete pour. Some floor lamps can be repurposed as a stand. Remove the light fixtures and wiring and you are left with a vertical hollow tube anchored firmly to a base.

So genius Emily I think the 6ft wood one you built is just perfect I mean common you can’t go wrong with any of them but the tomato stake one is perfect for inside n looks great 👍🏻. Can you see how cute it would look I’m going to do it building them out of the wood style and make 3ft, 4ft, 5ft, 6ft and 7ft starting with the 3ft at the beginning of my walkway entrance placed in galvanized buckets hopefully smaller to bigger size buckets for each tree starting at the beginning of my walkway with the 3ft spacing out all the way to my front entry ending with the largest one , Cute Right? For such a big impact I don’t even mind spending a little more for garland to give them really great coverage on the wood. I actually think it might be better if I buy just less expensive green garland and spray painting the white paint on them then using spray adhesive with baking soda to give it the chunky snow affect also I’m going to sprinkle a little of the white iridescent glitter on them let all of it dry a bit then go over it one last time with a good spray adhesive again or if you or anyone else knows of something I can spray on it at the end to just make it a little more weather resistant. It won’t be exposed fully to the straight outdoor elements more covered but just in general from wind elements etc. Where I live here in Arizona we don’t really get a whole lot of rain sometimes if any, mostly just durning the summer monsoon season. Thanks again Emily hopefully you might have a good suggestion for me. 😘

I love this idea! I have a ton of garland and this would be a great use for it. Here is a heads up. Go to Estate Sales, especially on the last day. Things tend to be half price or more then. You can get great deals on garland and lights. For some reason they don't seem to sell like other items. I bought large plastic storage tubs, FULL of garland and lights for a couple of dollars. Now I know what I can do with them.

Could also do a taller tree using the tomato hoops. Step one, use the large tomato hoop, attach it to your base of choice. Step two, lift up your smaller tomato hoop and place on top - use as the next level or section of the tree. Layer that 2nd hoop as high or low as you like, and fix in place with wire or twist ties, or black shoe laces for easy removal later... Whatever you have on hand. Step 3 either add another smaller tomato hoop up top, or begin winding on your garland. Always start at the top.
