Fly Tying with Tellis Katsogiannos #8 Sunray Shadow Variations

#8 out of 12 weeks with fly tying videos, and it is now time for some variations of Sunrays! Originally made by Raymond Brooks and probably one of the most famous salmon flies ever made? The original pattern has squirrel, peacock and monkey hair. I did not like it in the beginning of my salmon fishing, I just thought it was to simple! But believe me, I have eaten my words for that! Today I would not go fishing without having a few variations in my box. Here is my 3 most used variations of the Sunray shadow, including the more "original one".

I like the way you tie - with minimal material and not overdressed. BTW congrats on your English it's a lot better than my Swedish. I'm on the Gaula this year and will give the Sunray a go - square cast and let it fish quickly with a downstream belly...... and wallop!!! Cheers Phil

Amazing. I;d heard of the Sunday, but had not got around to losing it up. I was so surprised to see tis predominantly black! Great series. I'm in Australia and fish for trout. bass and freshwater herring, but I really enjoy seeing these flies tied.:-)

They are simple flies but deadly. I used to fish the Collie dog a lot in Scotland successfully. Must tie some of these for next season. Thank you.
