    I have nothing but respect for the Warriors games. It would be SO EASY for them to have just made glorified mashy beat em ups and called it a day and probably still sold rather well, but the fact that they go so far to make each one feel like an extension of or directly related thing is something I'm happy they challenge themselves to do. I haven't even played Three Houses and I think this game is incredibly interesting. Marrying as much of the strategy elements of Fire Emblem to what Warriors games are known for just makes so much sense for this genre.

      YMMV with Warriors games usually as some get more love than others, hence the “Premium” moniker I made, so I get the reluctance for many to get into them. But it’s a rare breed of game that lets you experience the feeling of being in large scale battles. And mixed with the right IPs, it shines!

    My head canon is Three House is a tactics game because you control Byleth who is cold, calculating, a strategist. And then in Three Hopes we occupy Shez, who is frankly a run-in-and-figure-it-out type, hence Warriors genre

    Oh boy I'm gonna gush about this so be prepared for another big massive wall of text I guess lol. This game I was very very excited for and I'm very happy to say that the excitement was well worth it. Not only did I get to resspend time with the characters from 3 houses again but also the Warriors format from the demo was just so good. You can switch characters using the adjective system and make very very fun combos, The minute Byleth shows up at a certain point, they are scary to the point of them officially being the game's Lu Bu, and the combat is just a blast to play. I was a bit skeptical when I found out that we were gonna get a new avatar character and not have Byleth/Beleth( The name of the female version that I've been using for quite some time lol) as the protagonist and their design I have heard that some people did not like it, especially with a friend. However overtime we realize that Shez is not a bad avatar, instead we do get a character that has a personality, goals and A VOICE!!! What makes it even better is this transfers over to even Byleth and Beleth meaning once again much like the first Fire emblem Warriors, the avatars can freaking speak! I was so happy that it ends up making me and even a good chunk of my friends like Shez and further love Byleth and Beleth. And speaking of that the reason for that is thank God this game has an English dub now I know that the persona 5 striker's Warriors game has a dub but this is very very important because in previous Warriors titles, The company had a weird habit of only having Japanese voices for a very very long time whether it was through there there mainline series of samurai Warriors and dynasty Warriors with their Empire titles and with samurai Warriors in their main game titles including spirit of Sanada or even in their collaboration titles like One Piece. It was just so annoying to try to play a Warriors game only to realize it just has a Japanese dub and there's no dub at all meaning you have to try to stop the battle and read what the characters are saying in the battlefield. But they've been doing a bit better with dogs as of late and of late and I'm just happy that in the case of 3 Hopes they're able to get every single voice actor from the game 3 houses back, including Edelgard's VA Tara Plat as I can make SO MANY DW7 and 8 jokes and be happy and Ferdinand's voice actor who thanks to recent events I am especially happy that he pulled his great role off with a Bang. As for the story itself I do love the fact that you have so much replay ability in your hands and since we're doing the retelling route it does end up giving you a lot more information that the main game didn't do and it even further enhances the experience of why I love 3 houses so much and why it is my favorite fire emblem in the series. I will admit that you will feel drained out but if you've played 3 houses before this is nothing and all I can recommend to new players is take your time. That holds true for even 3 houses if this game ends up making you wanna play that like that. It's not a duology that you have to rush. Also I should be complaining about the whole clone's situation but considering that in the original game you can make any character you want and turn them into an indestructible thing that they're not supposed to be and that's really the fun of 3 houses I'm not gonna say that here because I don't really care because it plays like a great marriage of the Warriors style with the 3 houses style that it doesn't matter. Finally there's the fact that there are some things that you may miss in your 1st play through which which happened to me however dudever due to certain things much like 3 houses that I will not spoil you can do things over to try to get the stuff that you missed previously and since this is a Warriors game it's not gonna take as long so again take your time. Overall in my honest opinion they have been knocking it out of the park with this one from the story to the characters to even the combat everything about this game is like a nice little bow that's wrapped up and considering that this has been getting a lot of positive reviews despite being a Warriors game is very impressive. Much like 3 houses I got like 2 routes that I have to go through as of me writing this I'm just about done with the black eagles route but I did notice some things I may have missed so I will go back and this was a very positive and awesome review Alex! And before I forget happy 4th of July and awesome you like Bernadetta and Hilda too!!!!

    Personally the best way I could describe both games is think of them as two sides at the same coin. As there's just so many ways to describe how each of the games are complementary of each other. Honestly you could look at Three Houses and Three Hopes as the devs from each hoping to help influence the other about how they could improve their own styles of games. The warriors team has been trying to show the series can tell proper action RPG style storytelling and have it done right. While intelligence systems has gotten a lot of ideas about how they can try new ideas out for Fire Emblem.
    Look in all honesty this is a positive thing for both series because ir helps introduce new fans to each while helping the devs of each improve

      Awesome! When you do, know that the classes and weapons do alter the properties of the combos. There’s a lot of hidden depth in what seems like a regular Warriors game, and you will really need to be tactical when sending off characters to different locations to get the best rating for each map! Also a great two player co-op game!

    I actually do have a question for you regarding the combat specifically:
    One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3/4 is top of Warriors combat for me due to the amount of options it says (combos, air combos, specials, supers, install supers, etc) How does Three Hopes compare in that regard?
    The overall game does look really fun.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! It’s very different. In One Piece, the characters themselves determine the move sets and you can add special attacks and the like to try and customize their play style.
      Three Hopes on the other hand is a bit less freeing than that, particularly because it’s based off of Fire Emblem. Instead of different play styles per character, it’s done via what class you have assigned each, so there will be similarities. This also means that classes have specific weapon skills.
      That being said, you can also pair two characters together to share skills between each, as they play as one person! And each weapon actually alters the damage calculations quite a bit, giving you the nuanced equipment considerations you’d find in full RPGs.
      The long and short of it is that One Piece, much like other Warriors games, focuses on a lot quicker pick up and play gameplay and configuration. Whereas in Three Hopes, you have to spend some time to spec people into the class that you want to play as, and the skill ceiling to pull off some moves might be higher due to how the gameplay is structured around that.

  • @neil4692
    @neil4692 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regarding the ability to tell the other people you control what to do, that has been a common feature in musou titles as of late and it has a similar system to the FE weapon triangle in that certain types of weapons are more powerful against others so I wouldn't say that is unquie to this musou tiitle.
    Regarding the question I have which is probably gonna be a long one. (and you might not be able to answer it since it is a heavy musou focused question)
    It is to do with the feel and the weapons of each character in the game. Taking back time to the last musou title with it being the latest Samurai Warriors entry. While it was fun to play to musou fans there was a big issue in the clone weapons. You would get a new character with taking Nagamasa Azai for this example and while he had a cool design, he had the same katana moveset as a main character that you have been already using which brought you to question what was the point in using him? Where I am going with this is does the characters in Three Hopes all have an unique moveset, weapon that makes them all feel unique in what they bring to the table or do you just have the basics types of units with them all functioning similar like a heavy unit from one house not having much difference to the same type of unit from a different house.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While it might be the case that you have some semblance of control in previous Warriors games, at least from what I saw in Samurai Warriors 5, it's not similar at all with how Three Hopes one does it, where you have full reign of the map and you're able to tell people to target non-officer soldiers like specific Gate Captains or head to specific locations without any additional commands.
      That being said, the common knowledge from the community outside of Warriors fans is that there are no ways to control troops in this specific manner, so I don't think making that statement is off base at all. As far as the weapon triangle is concerned, I am aware of its existence in other Warriors titles, but it bears mentioning because it's a key feature in Fire Emblem. My goal for mentioning these concepts is solely targeted at Fire Emblem fans who are reluctant in trying out a real-time action game due to their bad experiences in other turn-based games turned action games like Final Fantasy XV. "We've all been there, so I feel for you," as I said in the video.
      To your question, each weapon has different random properties designated to each. But as you might've surmised, the attacks are practically the same regardless of character. In other words, a lot of the customization aspects for the weapons and the class are tied to the numerical calculations happening in the background and not necessarily the moment to moment action onscreen. Unfortunately, I cannot confirm if different sizes of characters affect the speed of a specific classes' attacks as I chose a House (Black Eagles) that doesn't have a beefy character. For instance, the second tier of axe wielding classes are a bit slower to move and attack, by comparison.

      @@BacklogBattle I have questioned that a lot. I think there are a few things that stood out to me. 1.) They nailed the overall feeling of the game being an extension of FE3H world. 2.) The downtime in the camp broke up gameplay in a meaningful way and kept it from getting stale for me. 3.) It felt like there was more emphasis on the strategy having a turn based feel where I felt like I was getting a bit of both worlds. I played AoC co-op for the story as I’m a big Zelda fan but the gameplay got monotonous even playing co-op. They avoided that for me in this one, it felt pretty seamless.

    *SPOILERS* (BTW I've only played Golden Wildfire because I find it hard to betray my favorite characters lol)I love this game and it's definitely my favorite Warriors game, P5S being a very close second, but it is definitely not without it's issues. Gameplay is amazing, easily the best in a warriors game, the Npcs even help you which is a first in Warriors games lol. But sadly there are so many clones, I would've preferred if they just cut the church members and gave everyone mostly unique movesets. I mean, you can only use 4 characters at a time and most people probably used the students, Byleth and new characters anyway. The Supports are good, not Three Houses/Awakening good but miles better than Fates. I was happy to see Marianne and Bernadetta interact. Story is actually good for a Warriors game, it's better than Age Of Calamity but worse than P5S, the ending really leaves you hanging though. Music is great as usual for Warriors/Fire Emblem game. I would have preferred a crossover of Radiant Dawn, Sacred Stones, and Three Houses. But this is honestly still a great game. Thought the beginning was slow but gets great really quick. I really wish Nintendo would port the 3DS games to Switch so I could play them on the TV.

      It starts faster than Three Houses imo!

    Personally Three Hopes really didnt do it for me, it didnt feel like its supposed to complement Three Houses but replace it, Shez very much feels out of place (and his super sayian form even more so) and I was not fan of the character rewrites. Its not really a different timeline, its a different universe, with characters behaving differently and even past events, its not the same as the route splitting in Three Houses. More importantly, there was no need to go this far to tell another Three Houses story, fans have been clamoring for a "golden" route since the games release and there is a ton of things that Three Houses didnt get to tell us, we could have had a continuation or a more in depth look at some of the aspects of the story we only heard in Three Houses or the afformentioned golden route but instead we get this convoluted mess of a fanfiction retelling where we are essentially forced to kill our previous protagonist.
    Nope, not for me, the entire time I played I had this icky feelings of things not being right and I had to force myself into continuing because this is not how things were supposed to go and the story simply didnt grab me.
    Bottom line, this didnt feel by any means as an expansion of Three Houses, because while the world is largely the same, it isnt Three Houses world, these are not the characters that we know as Byleth, not the world we fought for and not the future we can get, its got nothing to do with Three Houses aside for the superificial aspects, they exist in the same or similar setting but beyond that their stories conflict.
    That being said and emotional reasons aside, I think they did great job making a warriors game feel like Fire Emblem, I loved Omega Force's continuation of Persona 5 and they clearly tried the same here, but whereas Strikers really felt like a continuation, this simply feels like an attempt at rewriting the original and because I love the original so deeply all the disconnect here just caused me to not care.
