I had the exact same experience about 2 years ago when I tried to plan this super cool shoot at the Redwoods in Rotorua, NZ, and the whole thing went sideways! I'd booked the Air bnb for the wrong days, so we got there a day early. So we stayed at a motel for the night. Then when we went to the air bnb the next day, we found out it was missing locks on some of the windows, and still stunk of paint from being renovated... then NONE of my shots came out as I'd thought they would. I'd even planned many of them in advance! I just didn't have the eye (or the equipment at that point) for the level of photographs I was looking for. I realise now that my concepts were so much bigger than I - even now - could accomplish I think. It's proof that there is always SO much more to learn... but man, I was feeling super sorry for myself. And guilty that I'd dragged the whole family along, AND that we'd wasted money doing it and I still didn't get what I was after... So I TOTALLY get that feeling of failure.

I imagine that if we were to talk about our fails, it would take a very long time to get through them all. They are all learning experiences, or should be. I still feel like a beginner quite often, despite starting out with 35mm SLRs back in the 80's.

I think it's a different experience when you're older, and it's so amazing to share those experiences with our families!

Great video! Your so right, failure is like another piece of kit I carry in my bag. My most common mistake is rushing things! Anyway, you live an learn 😊

Thank you so much. Rushing is definitely a big one and I keep telling myself that I need to slow down, but I don't listen.

Great video and sentiment Craig. My wife is always telling me I don’t give myself enough credit for what I have accomplished. Do another video with your eclipse photos and what went wrong.

Thank you. My wife always reminds me that I'm my own harshest critic and thinks I should be easier on myself. I might consider putting some images together for a short or something. I did get a lot of partial eclipse shots that are in focus.
