Thanks so much for your service and sharing you story. I’ve enjoyed your videos and always look forward to your new ones. Take care my friend and stay healthy and safe.
Kerry, I’m left speechless by this video… in good way. Your vulnerability and openness is most impressive. Of course, you’re one of those who I look up to as a turner. Thanks for sharing a part of your journey into wood turning. Merry Christmas brother!
I’m choked 😢. Thankyou for your service Kerry. As a fellow wood turner I certainly share the joy and zen that wood turning and creating amazing useful art work delivers. It is a community of commonality. Be well and keep safe mate. Johnno.
I didn’t serve in the military but I really identified with your description of woodturning. The feeling of just focusing and seeing the wood just disappear under the tool is very therapeutic and peaceful. After 24 years of teaching physics and math, I needed something like turning in my retirement to just slow my brain down. I love it, and when I can’t be in the shop for a couple of days I just yearn for it. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your work! Keep it up!
I feel the same way, it’s amazing to see so many people here who share the same passion for our craft. It’s a process that engages all the senses and completely draws you in. Thank you for sharing your story, Jim. I truly appreciate it. Wishing you a wonderful festive season! Cheers, Kez
Love your story Kerry and applaud your service and continuing support to the military. I am a US Army vet and find turning calming in my busy world as a caregiver. If postal rates were not so high and you weren’t on the other side of the world I would love to send you some nice wood from the northern reaches of the US.
Thanks so much for your kind words and support, mate. We all need a space to relax and unwind, and I’m glad our craft gives you that same peace it gives me. I really appreciate the offer, mate, but I know those postal rates are steep! Thank you for thinking of me, though. And thank you for your service. 🤝 Cheers, mate, Kez
Love it man! Great to hear a little bit of back story and get to know the man behind the lathe! Though I am not from your country I do thank you for your service to your country and respect you all the more knowing that bit about you. I very much get what you mean behind suggesting the peace you get from turning, I feel the same way at the lathe, its been 'new life' to me. Keep creating beautiful pieces good sir!
Thank you so much, Perry. I’m planning to share more of what’s been happening behind the scenes in my upcoming videos. It’s amazing to hear that you feel the same way about our beautiful craft; there’s truly nothing better. Right now, I’m working on a new video featuring a quarter-sawn chunk of cedar. I’m going to try turning it into a vase. Cheers, mate, Kezza
@@KerryCorney Hello Kerry! Wood turning is so very therapeutic I with others had more easy access to giving it a try. I suppose Videos like yours are a great introduction. Just watching was my 'therapy' until I decided it was time to do it myself. I Bought and hollowed out a 'decommissioned' large old school-bus and turned it into my woodshop. Works surprisingly well all things considered! I am excited to see your approach to hollow-form and vase work! I really appreciate the personal reply, Thank You! Happy turning brother, Perry
So cool mate! Also glad you found your place in woodturning. I too love the escape of woodturning from my own personal experiences with CPTSD. Love your channel and all I've learned from you from it. Thanks for your service I hope we are looking after you in return.
I really think there should be some studies done to truly highlight woodturning as a form of therapy and recovery. I’ve been receiving messages, both here and privately, all sharing how much woodturning has helped people with their own challenges. Thank you for sharing your story, Frank. Please let me know if there’s any way I can help, mate. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll always do my best to find it. Cheers, mate, Kezza
@KerryCorney absolutely! No problem mate! A problem shared is a problem halved right!? Will do for sure! I have a couple of ideas you might be interested in? Would love to be part of an online discussion that became TH-cam content about woodturning as an alternative therapy. Also as a differently abled turner (I turn seated due to my disability) it'd be curious to do some turning with a professional me being a relative beginner and discuss on the fly how different it is. I can email if you decide you do want to discuss it more? Till then will definitely to continue to support your great content!
Thank you, mate. It's a good cause to support. Hope it's been a bit cooler up in Tbar than it has down here in the Redlands. 43 in the workshop yesterday. Cheers, mate. Kezza
Thank you for your service and I’m very pleased that you’ve found a new purpose. Totally get your sentiments.
