20+ years in IT/Networking - the first thing you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY should try, even before asking for help, is to reboot. It really does fix most issues and should be the first thing whoever you asked for help will tell you to do anyway.
Unless you are on Linux. Then _please_ ask for help if you are going to _before_ you reboot. There is a bunch of diagnostic data that gets wiped by a reboot, so if it wasn't a one-off issue, sorting out what happened is considerably more difficult once you reboot. Also, if the system is _usually_ stable, sudden problems can be indicative of failing hardware. So there is a significant possibility that it will fail to come back up, which can make recovering important data trickier (or possibly impossible if it only exists in caches due to a failing drive).
Sometimes you may even need to do it twice. Ive had scenarios where something was wonky (different wonky) after a reboot, so i needed to repeat the action. ...which has so far always worked. EDIT: My dad told me that this wasnt unusual. ANd whilst my PC knowledge is more up to date than his in some ways, he is the one with an IT education (from the 90s)
yeah for the basic user reboot is advised i avoid it needing to reboot outside normal reasons for a reboot means the problem will return i don't accept returning problems but i also have the time to fix it if i just reboot i will have for hours the nagging feeling of what caused the problem in the first place
Funny story I had a friend who ended up spending years playing games on integrated graphics until a game finally taxed her system. She asked me what might be wrong and we discovered that the hdmi cable was plugged into the mobo hdmi instead of the gpu. We gamers do like big number go up. But often times we can settle for far less and still have a great experience.

My PC has an AMD cpu but I remember being frustrated when I upgraded my RAM and had to reconnect all the cables, and wondering why my PC is not displaying anything, turns out I plugged it in on my Mobo. And now AMD cpu after the 7000 series all have an iGPU, so RIP to those poor souls who plug their pc on the mobo.
The 1650 being in the lead isnt really a surprise. The card is almost always used in any run of the mill prebuild. Great card for a cheap esports build too.
One misconception about this statistic, is that most people can't afford to keep up to date with the newest stuff. Yeah the newer models can do more. But most important, most of the time they draw less watts for the same amount of fps. If you limit the frames to match you Monitor, you'll save money in electricity. (maybe not enough to compensate the new Graphics card tho)
@@CrazyManuel94 And you have to correlate the statistic to the most played games on steam, which are CS:GO, DOTA 2, TF2, Apex Legends, and Rust. None of them require high end GPUs. If you want to play the latest AAA titles, you're not going to do that on a 1650, the numbers for esports games are just much bigger than those for AAA games, so the esports hardware is showing up at the top of the statistics. And on the other hand high end GPUs would be a waste of money and power for the games most people play.
@@CrazyManuel94 A higher end gpu is actually more efficient (electricity wise) than a lower end one when pushing the exact same workload (so same settings + resolution and fps limit). The actual reason is simply the upfront cost of the hardware. Most people don't even properly look at power draw when purchasing electronics.
I think RAM modules should clearly state their JEDEC speed as well as the XMP/EXPO profile speed in order to make it more obvious that people need to actively make it run at the factory OC speed within the BIOS.
A little asterisk * on the speed with some small accompanying text on the side or back of the box would suffice for me. Sidenote: can we all stop calling it Mhz when it's MT/s
If you don't know to enable XMP/Expo, then you should probably be checking your motherboard manual for compatibility, and that does explain how to enable it.
I think JEDEC and mobo vendors need to do a better job with being clear about DRAM timing voltages, naming, and descriptions. At this point I'd totally buy a buy a book about DDR4/5 overclocking from top to bottom if one existed. What exactly do I do when a timing name is missing in BIOS? Can we please end this offset garbage and use flat values instead? Can anyone make a proper Intel/AMD/JEDEC approved timing calculator? It's such a mess I don't even bother trying to find the real limits of my memory.
Thats a myth for sure. You see only blue RGB lights make your system run faster, because it blue lights make your system run cooler, because blue is the color of cold. Red RGB actually makes your system run slower, because of all the extra heat, because red is the color of hot. Glad we cleared that up. 😮

My favorite misconception is "more RAM makes your PC faster". That can be the case. But an incredibly high amount of people don't realise that a PC for just office use won't get any faster with 128GB of RAM, than it is with 16GB, because most people have no clue how RAM works.
Another way of saying it is More RAM will prevent your PC from getting slower with RAM intensive apps but not necessarily make it faster unless you only have 1 stick and it's like 4GB.
You would be surprised how much memory web browsers can use. Especially on badly designed websites (which are more and more common nowadays). Jira, the most common management tool for programmers is using over 400MB per opened card. So when I am trying to deploy a release containing 30 tasks, Jira alone is using 12GB of RAM. Not to mention everything else.
Have a friend who wanted to upgrade his gaming desktop that older than my gaming laptop. Asked him about his specs only to find out it's 128GB DDR4....I'm on a 16Gb DDR4...🤡

While most people primarily focus on FPS when buying a GPU, what truly should be taken into consideration is the RRR (Resolution, Response rate and Refresh rate) a monitor device can output. These factors are the only tangible way to fully 'feel" and enjoy the good performance a GPU truly delivers. People tend to forget how important a high-quality monitor display is and may end up compromising by choosing a cheaper option, especially when building a high-end rig with a low refresh rate monitor.
another thing i have have never seen tested i would love ot see is something like comparing framerates at differnt bit depths. cause we see things like 10-bit monitors advertised and i've always been interested but i wonder if the approximately 20% bit/pixel increase would actually lower performance, or if gpu's can handle that with 0 issues, cause it's something i've wondered but i've had 0 idea about
Misconception: Upgrading your GPU (only) for better gaming performance. Years ago I upgraded my RTX 2070 to an RTX 3060ti. I was expecting a boost in performance of around 20% as suggested online, but I got around just 3%. What a disappointment. That was around the mining rush too so it cost me a kidney. I was about to return it, until a found a bottleneck calculator online. I now realise how obvious it should have been, but at the time I didn’t know; my old i7 4790 was bottlenecking the 3060ti… AND the 2070! It turns out, what I needed to upgrade was the CPU. My old 2070 ended up squeezing more juice out after that!
I’ve seen many people doing this lately on the tech forum I hang out at. People asking why upgrading from their 1080 to a 4070ti didn’t help their performance and I see they are using an old quad core CPU like a 4570K or something. Recently someone with a Ryzen 1700 got a Radeon 6950XT and I had to tell him he should have upgraded his CPU to a newer Ryzen especially since he was gaming esport games at 1080p and low settings. I’m always amazed that there are still people who don’t understand the concept of being CPU limited. But I can understand why, a 2500K with an OC was plenty for gaming for years. So not everyone understands that CPUs are progressing at a fast pace again. For me it has always been obvious as I started gaming in the 90s and CPUs were getting obsolete in a couple of years. You could get a 200mhz CPU and in 2-3 years there were 2000mhz CPUs. I just to upgrade the CPU every 2-3 years until the early 2010s when I could use one for 7 years before upgrading. Now I’m back to upgrading every 3-4 years.
I mean, the fucked up part here is that you thought 2070 to 3060 Ti was a worthwhile improvement, let alone an improvement at all. They're extremely similar. But yeah you would have thought the single-generation old GPU didn't need upgrading compared to the ancient CPU. Yes! Also I would add that the lack of a standard agreement for BIOS terms and basic interface between brands bothers me a lot. I get that they may want to introduce their own features, but the names of settings, basic order or menus and distribution of things should be more standard between the main mobo brands. A good example is the name of memory profiles itself: XMP DOCP EXPO EOCP why the hell 4 names to the same thing... My AMD/Gigabyte mobo calls it XMP.
I want TechQuickie to do: A real report on how much RAM different levels of PC users *ACTUALLY* need, now. Is it 32GB or 64GB? Is 16GB really even viable anymore? What's the limit for 16GB? How much should you get if you want to have several browser windows open, chat, music, an IDE, some explorer folders, and a modern game? What about future forecasting and how much we should be getting now to hold good performance over the next five years? What are the effects of having to use a bunch of pagefile and running out of RAM? I know 16GB shouldn't be standard suggestion anymore for basically anybody. But, what should it be, and for who? What even constitutes a "power user"?
tl;dr 2x16 is the new standard since Windows 11 can chug 8GB on its own. You'll also need these if you want to play games in resolution higher than 1080p. You can consider 2x24 if you are running an Intel DDR5 platform - these new sticks are built with the latest tech and they get clocked higher very easily. Pagefile is always slower than RAM, try not to go above your RAM capacity. If you are sure that you will not run out of RAM you can disable pagefile all together.
Ram is cheap enough now to not worry. If you find that you regularly go over 10gb then get 32 to be future proof. It's basic math, not rocket science. Not knowing how much ram you need is like saying you don't know how much gas/battery you have left. There's a meter built in for you to check. For example I've only hit 16gb a few times and my taskbar is always packed full. So only you know your usage. For the pagefile I use an old, cheap sata ssd and put it on there. Now I don't need to think about it ever again.
Where did you hear that 16gb isn't viable anymore? I've heard that about 8gb but definitely not 16. I game on Windows 10 @ 1080p with 16gbs and I don't think I've ever seen my ram go above 10gb even with my game, 100+ tabs, Spotify, discord, fan speed control software all open at the same time

I have a GPU comparable to the 1650 and while there are obviously a lot of games that you can play on it, by now there just are newer games where you won't get a good experience at all with this kind of card. Sometimes, it's just time to upgrade.
The 1650 is currently the majority, but looks like the 3050 is making moves to replace it. Still weak, but the updated drivers and architecture help immensely where the 1650 struggles.
And most people are not playing games that require any more than a 1650. We seem to forget that just because the next COD or GTA needs 32 Gigs RAM and a million cores doesn't mean the average collection of simple 2D games and emulators really doesn't require anything too beefy.
1. 3 year old CPUs are very much still viable for day to day use. Unless you're doing CPU heavy data crunches and compiles you will be fine with a i5 10th gen or 4th gen ryzen 2. If you're on a budget build and feel your PC be a bit slow despite having plenty of RAM (8 is bottom limit of comfortable, 12 is good, and 16 is plenty on budget) and and an SSD, consider upgrading the CPU. The GPU will have little affect on how fast windows will run and how fast apps open. Upgrade your GPU only if you plan on playing heavy games or rendering anything else. 3. AMD's FSR works on old Nvidia cards. My 1030 runs performance FSR on Deep Rock Galactic and it is glorious. If you're planning on playing games that supports it on a 16 series card, i don't see why you'd leave performance on the table, especially how unnoticeable it is on quality. 4. Ray tracing is snake oil, you won't notice it unless you know what you're looking for and LTT has a video on this yadda yadda yadda 5. Need a budget monitor? Buy a 1080p 75hz one or a 90hz one. That 25% and 50% of increase compared to 60 is VERY noticeable I promise.

DDR5 RAM modules may not be cross compatible between AMD and Intel at speed. Learnt the hard way they generally only have timing profiles set for one or the other.
Well it wasn't guaranteed 7 years ago that they'd work fine today too. It's always a gamble, and you should buy hardware when you need it, not any earlier.

XMP profiles may not work in your PC. You may need to manually set the speed/timings/voltage to make it work. I bought a 32GB DDR4 4000 kit for my aging z370 board and would not boot with XMP. I manually downclocked and tightened the timings and got a stable 3600 CL16 working
There is JEDEC speed, then there is SPD (serial presence detect) speed, and then there is the rated speed. Most modern systems will default to SPD speed, rather than JEDEC. And some systems (most often laptop-class bioses) will not let you go faster than SPD speed.
That's because regular people have to dial down the visuals and make their cards last as long as possible. We don't have $600 to $1500 sitting around just to play computer games.
Never Mix Cables from One PSU to another, even though the cables may fit a plug, different Manufacturers have their plugs pinned specifically for their PSUs. (This should be overseen my an engineering standard to protect consumers. if a plug fits it 'should' be safe to use, but it is NOT)
Misconceptions about (water)cooling. Such as push/pull, positive/negative pressure. Radiator after every component vs at the end of a loop, frequency of draining the loop. Or just what is truly necessary for modern hardware (ie watercoloring isn't necessary, air cooling is sufficient, etc)
as long as it's 3 ghz or higher clock speed, cache size is wayy more important than clock speed. a cpu with lower clock but more cache can beat a cpu with higher clock and less cache
0:58 let's all remember that the "most demanding games" make up about three games a year out of the 3000 games that are released every year. Most studios want their games to run on the most machines possible. Limiting your audience to only the rich man's club of expensive GPU owners will kill potential revenue.
Adding more RAM wont always speed up your PC. If your utilisation is less than 80% your ram capacity, adding more RAM is just throwing money at the wall.
With 7 year old GPUs being so widespread I'm disappointed that Intel and AMD haven't been more aggressive with their APUs to match such old hardware. Would love to see a day where you don't even need a GPU except for very demanding titles.
it's already basically here for most people. cs:go, valorant, rocket league, even apex can run on an apu. the issue is more to do with gpu's having desognated compute nodes/processors/other you can't really get without increasing the die size (and we know how companies are with that). another example is look at apple m series processors. preformance per watt is actually kinda nuts considering it can tickle a 4090 at only aronud 150w, while a 4090 can consume (iirc) something like 600w. microprocessors are getting nuts

On GB the M2 Ultra scores on par with a 4070 Ti*, according to apple's website the highest config of the mac studio can use up to 295W (CPU+GPU) but no official numbers are displayed. And a 4090 by design is a 450W card. *I checked it myself, using a M2 Ultra review, on geekbench the M2 Ultra is equivalent to a 4070 Ti, which is 62% slower than a 4090(TPU). Also you should never shade your references because a reference by design is supposed to be a point of reference, free from any variables that may color the original design. Cute art though.

@@Zoyx That's a Mobile APU, not Desktop. Intel Desktop iGPU's aren't that great yet even on 13th Gen. While Ryzen Desktop APU's are still stuck with 5600G & 5700G as the latest options (there is 5300G as well, but it's OEM only). And it's been over 2 years now since we got an Desktop APU from AMD.
the by far most missconceptioned thing (especially here in germany as we tend to have high energy prices) is, that when a pc has or you upgrade your pc with a 700W power supply, they all think: omg, no i dont want this pc or upgrade or i want to use it only when i need it, cause 700W drawing from the plug is very expensive over time. most people think a pc sucks that much power which its rated for all the time. they dont recognize it as an limit, that it can draw much more power from the wall or that it only uses what it needs (in idle maybe 100W).
All they need is a program that can monitor the power usage. Not all machines have sensors though, but a free program can put all those worries to rest in seconds.
Easily the biggest is about network/WiFi speeds. Needing faster network speeds from their ISP is rarely a problem for most people. If their devices are slow, the problem is with their home or office network. Usually, it's a misconfiguration or just using crappy consumer gear.
I agree. I was probably the last person to have slow speeds these days haha. Just changed from a 13mbps speed to a 300mbps service a couple months ago lmao. But yes people will buy a 15 year old router or have an extremely old wifi card and wonder why they aren't getting the full advertised ISP speeds.

If your laptop is making your lap/desk/table hot, then it is not overheating. This is mostly true for new more powerful laptops, but the more heat the computer is kicking out the cooler the CPU and other heat sensitive components are. If you want to know if the computer is overheating, use thermal monitoring software, open hardware monitor, and compare the temps it gives you to what a quick google search says is normal for your CPU and other hardware.
That cable management is only cosmetic and is not necessary for the actual function or health of the pc. Not managing your cables does not hurt the performance of your PC unless it actually physically preventing the air flow from going around it.
The air flow thing is a huge myth. I've tested it by shoving sheets of cardboard inside my computer. The air just goes around it. My temperatures didn't budge.
CPU as well. If you toss a 4090 (or any GPU upgrade) into something with an old CPU - you're likely massively bottlenecking the GPU; I mean, it will work, boot, and function; but you're really gimping your hardware and losing out on money not fully utilizing the FULL capability of your GPU. Any GPU upgrade should be weighed against the CPU you have.
The one that always drives me nuts isn't a misconception by PC enthusiasts but about PC enthusiasts. Console fanboys will routinely bitch that making a PC is prohibitively more expensive than console gaming when that is a flat out lie. Much like this video points out you don't need the biggest, baddest computer for 90% of games. I built a computer in 2012 that lasted me until I built a new one in 2022 and stood up against literally every major title released and it only cost me $1100. That reads like more than the release price of the Xbox One or Playstation 4, but ignores the ten years of XBL or PSN (both $60/yr, or $600) I didn't need to pay for; how routinely PC platforms run deep discounts and so much more.
One common misconception i see is people thinking that buying a more expensive graphics card model like a strix will give them more fps then a msrp model.
POWER OPTIONS: one of the culprits of a laggy and snail-like slow pc is the power option settings... By default its on the BALANCE MODE. But if you really want your desktop PC to run at its best, then change the power setting to PERFORMANCE MODE for the best performance. Mind you, laptop battery will now drain like a leaning gasoline tank at this point; depending on your laptop configuration.
Here’s one for you. If your 1440p monitor tops out at 60hz or even 120hz, thinking that your need to buy a gpu that pushes 400+ to get a good gaming experience is a waste of time and money. Also, say you have a super powerful GPU for content creation and have a 120 HZ display, running vsync will deliver a solid gaming experience at a fraction of the power draw as your GPU won’t try and run with the throttle pinned to the floorboard. Last one. While running at 100% in something like r23 the intel 12th and 13th Gen cpus pull a ton of power, more than AMD. But in normal, daily use, intel is more efficient, drawing less power on average than AMD. Seems that people focus on the worst case as if that’s the only use case that exists. Still running 2700x/16GB/gtx 1080ti. I’d like upgrade to 6800xt/6900xt, but they still insanely priced here over $1000 still here in Canada. Wtf. RTX 4xxx are a joke and middle finger to gamers. Consider they all cut down memory bandwidth unless you can afford over priced 4090.
I have a lot of people "in the know" telling me that I should upgrade my RTX-3090 to an RTX-4090 "just because it's one number higher, so it must be more l33t!". The issue that I know is that it will also require a new power supply, and I will probably suffer the melted power plug issue with my luck. So that's a strong no from me. Also, you should mention the Windows Power Off On Cycle versus Reboot difference, most people still don't know the facts on this.
It just happened to me last week, build a new rig three months ago and i didn't realize until 7 days ago that the memory modules were running at 2400 mhz instead of 3200 mhz, i just completely forgot to enable the XMP profile.
Yeaaaah man, I still play in my GTX770 watercooled and it rocks on 1080p. It only struggles a little for the most recent AAA titles, but for the majority of games, I can get around 70 to 90 FPS. And also with a core i5 4760, 16Gb Vengeance 1600Mhz RAM.
Xmp just makes my pc blue screen every 20 minutes at its advertised speed, like what’s the point buying faster ram if it just crashes my pc when I run it at that speed? Sounds like false advertising to me
The reason the standard speed is so low is because the CPU cannot handle it when you enabled XMP your overclocking the CPU that handles access to RAM if you lost the silicon lottery you might not be able to reach the speeds, further more motherboard states how fast your RAM can be at max so that could also be your issue
@@NameName-eq7oe QVL doesn't always guarantee RAM sticks will work. QVL is released by MOBO vendor, IMC is inside CPU. If you get shitty IMC you might only run JEDEC.
@@NameName-eq7oe the sticks of RAM in my mobo aren't on its QVL but still work. Their XMP profiles don't work so I had to manually OC them to their advertised speeds to get them to work. That's why I said yikes when the video said "enable XMP and away you go!"
Yeah. This has become a bigger problem in the DDR5 era, but isn't exactly new either. My A10-7870k can't hit the XMP on the box of my 2400MT RAM I put in it. I have to turn it down to 2133. Also, a lot of "older" (as recent as 10th gen) Intel CPUs can't even enable XMP unless you have a really expensive Z-series motherboard.
antivirus CAN hog your performance. Me and friends have had antivirus cause massive performance issues on multiple games and even software like folding@home, because as soon as any process took lots of resources, the antivirus would start checking it constantly for any weird behavior
The only antivirus software you need these days is the Windows Defender. Microsoft improved it a lot since the XP/Win 7 days and since it's a native Windows thing, it can run really efficiently with next to no overhead.
@@joeykeilholz925 On my work laptop the anti-virus definitely takes a chunk out of my SSD performance as well, easily scoring < 1 MB/s for archives during copy. I've had multiple issues with vid & even audio playback during meetings.
PC misconceptions. The biggest one that comes to mind to me, is people who say "This game is poorly optimized!" without having any sort of understanding of it.
1. default setting for shutdown in windows 10, doesnt actually completely shutdown everything.. it almost like hibernate without saving app.. if u want complete clean start up, choose restart.. OR u could turn off "fast start up" feature so shutdown will completely shutdown ur PC.. one way u can tell is from task manager, u can see the "up time", at default win 10, -IF u shutdown and start up again, the Up time didnt reset, -IF u shutdown and turn off the PSU (i dont recommend at this setting) the Up time will reset -IF u turn off the fast start up feature, and shutdown, the up time will reset (turn off PSU is fine in this option) -Restart from default windows 10, WILL restart ur Up time.. -Obviously, sleep and hibernate wont reset ur Up time 2. More core in cpu doesnt ALWAYS mean better performance, depend on many thing 3. Refresh in desktop wont do anything, its just placebo, by it self windows already keep refresh themselves.. 4. defrag on ssd wont make much diff if not nothing.. its only make harddisk run better by organizing ur storage better so the sensor that read it wont work harder switching places.. but SSD doesnt work like this..

Yeah. My friend recently upgraded his PC and I was jealous for a moment, but to be honest my GTX1070 works perfectly fine. When I'm in the middle of getting sucked into a game I don't even notice the difference between max settings and mid settings.
One ancient misconception that refuses to die is people confusing “memory” and “storage”. When told they have insufficient memory for a task they delete half their drive and then bitch because it didn’t help. This has been a problem since the 1980s.
Check if your first pcie slot is tied to the first m.2 slot because if you put an m.2 nvme ssd in that slot and a graphics card in the first pcie slot at the same time, it will make the graphics card run at half the bandwidth or worse, so check your motherboards pcie/m.2 Bifurcation set up in your oweners manual
If you have a relatively old pc/laptop running windows 10+ on the included HDD, and it's just super slow to start and do stuff, get rid of that POS (drive) and copy it over to an SSD. I have an ASUS i7 and a basic discreet GPU that is 9.5 years old. It basically runs like a brand new computer just with that update. It won't run most high end titles even circa 2014 (when I bought it). But it's a worthy dedicated server for valheim and such, playing various older games, and basic computer stuff. The screen is taped in with gorilla tape, it's missing half its screws, but you wouldn't know it's almost ten years old.
Whenever I buy new parts for my desktop, especially graphics cards, my brothers always frown upon me. But then they ask me why they can’t run the games or apps I’m using on their old laptops with integrated graphics. And I always give them the same answer.
Here's a question: I have a GTX 1650, and when I got it, I had a 1080p display. Recently, I was gifted a 3440x1440 LG curved monitor, and my games have gotten significantly harder to run, even at lower qualities. I mainly play FH4 and Minecraft (with shaders; yes, I know). I don't have a lot of money to spend. Should I look at something like an RTX 3060 and hope the price comes down? Or is there a comparable AMD card? (I'd rather the Adrenalin software than NVIDIA's stupid GeForce Experience nonsense)

Whats weird on the ram is that Ive only used AMD chipsets and each motherboard out of the 3 Ive bought have all been XMP, like always. They were all MSI ones so maybe it varies by seller?

I have a $300 mobo (at least it was at the time) because it was a package deal to get a GPU and I thought that was expensive. It sure is a nice mobo though.
Enterprise and "pro-sumer"/server boards easily get up to that price, but often at the consumer level many of the features integrated into the motherboard can be added via PCIe for less money, better quality, and upgradability. There is also usually one or two unused slots as most people use a GPU and nothing else.
I have 1000$ Montherboard, i need it. Because I need 5 m.2 storage device and need more pci-e lanes. All depends on what you do and need. Not all need expensive stuff.
Counterpoint on GPU: More games does not equal more happy, most of our steam libraries can attest to that. Instead, run heavily modded skyrim at 300fps with a nice new gpu! :D
Thermal paste applications. A small pea sized dot isn't enough anymore, and it doesn't even need to be a pea. An X can also work. It's always better to put a little bit too much than a little less. You're not losing performance for the former.
Depends on games you play and resolution. Also on your target framerate. Same card, 1440p 165hz can't play all games I want hitting high framerate at max details, or even with some lowered, so I could use a better gpu, but for now I'm 100% fine and all new gpu's apart from 4090 look awful anyway.
Well for GPUs aside from ugrading just for the fun of it. As long as there are no performance and visual quality issues with games that someone is currently playing, you can always wait with the upgrade until a game comes up that needs more VRAM or more performance to run at 60fps (or higher) with decent settings. (Unless a new cryptocoin rush on GPUs is starting, then get one for cheap right away, before the prices start going insane again)
7900 xt owner here. I would recommend sticking with your current card until 8000- series. Remember that 7900 xt should pretty much be called 7800 xt, as 7900 xtx is the top card. Dont get tricked by the naming scheme.

If you have multiple drives and are reinstalling Windows, disconnect all but the drive you want Windows installed on. The Windows installer has a habit of putting the boot manager on a secondary drive, so if you upgrade that drive, or it just does, it may leave your system unbootable. It's recoverable, but a real pain, so best to take a few moments to disconnect that steam library or additional storage.
This is interesting. I was trying to update my OS drive from MBR to GPT so I could enable Resizable Bar. And Windows says my SSD isn't compatible for changing to GPT. So I tried installing a fresh version of Win10 on a new drive but was unable to boot into it. I may have to keep this in mind if I get around to messing with it again, as I currently have 7 different kinds of drives connected to my PC lol.
I've never had it block an install, that's definitely odd. It's only when I've had a drive fail or pulled it out after replacement that things have gone wrong with it for me.
A common misconception people think is true about slow computers (and smartphones) is that they have a lot of software on it, more software = heavy device. While this would be true if you have 99% of the storage device full, it should not be true always. Also it depends on the type of software/apps you have: apps that run in the background will use more PC resources, idle apps or having 50 games installed on pc that doesn't run all the time will not mean slow PC. If my SSD has 50gb free or 250gb free should not affect general computer performance.
Back in the day, the most common system resource hog was Norton, McAffee, etc. I had a Norton rep flat tell me to run it off the disc periodically for scan. >.
this is a bit ironic since you fell for the common misconception, that gpu numbers from steam survey paint the correct picture. they are seriously flawed thanks to asian internet cafes, so it seems that everyone has 1650's, while in reality that gpu wasn't very popular choice at all for eg.
So I'd like to add that "Performance modes/ MO POWAH" philisophies don't always give you the best performance. In laptops especially. In one of my Legion i7/GTX1660TI laptops, i actually get almost the exact FPS on the "cool/quiet" modes as i do my performance mode. Depending on the situation of course tho. Reason for this is in my case is that the CPU gets capped @ 25w in cool/quiet mode. (GPU stays maxed at 80W) Most laptops probably follow a similar approach. So if whatever you are playing isnt really CPU intensive where you need that extra oomph, or if you'd like quieter fans, or even worry about how hot your computer gets... consider changing your CPU wattage or turbo ratios.
Video Idea, may be bad, may be useful. Why do rechargeable NimH AA batteries only give 1.2 V and Alkaline single use give 1.5 V? Does it make a difference in low and hi drain devices? When should you use the 1.5 vs 1.2V batteries?
Because the chemistry of the NiMH battery only delivers up to 1.2V. It would actually make a difference, as most device designed for AA batt. only knows to detect the voltage and warn you for low power. The NiMH cells already have a lower voltage to begin with, so the lifespan would appear "shorter"
A NiMH battery will sustain 1.2V most of its cycle while a 1.5V battery will soon drop below 1.2V and end up about 0.6V. That's why NiMH is better for most modern electronics but simple toys.

20+ years in IT/Networking - the first thing you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY should try, even before asking for help, is to reboot. It really does fix most issues and should be the first thing whoever you asked for help will tell you to do anyway.
1. Reboot
2. Check for updates/upgrades
3. Check FAQ
4. Ask for help
Unless you are on Linux. Then _please_ ask for help if you are going to _before_ you reboot. There is a bunch of diagnostic data that gets wiped by a reboot, so if it wasn't a one-off issue, sorting out what happened is considerably more difficult once you reboot. Also, if the system is _usually_ stable, sudden problems can be indicative of failing hardware. So there is a significant possibility that it will fail to come back up, which can make recovering important data trickier (or possibly impossible if it only exists in caches due to a failing drive).
Sometimes you may even need to do it twice.
Ive had scenarios where something was wonky (different wonky) after a reboot, so i needed to repeat the action.
...which has so far always worked.

yeah for the basic user reboot is advised i avoid it needing to reboot outside normal reasons for a reboot means the problem will return i don't accept returning problems but i also have the time to fix it

Funny story I had a friend who ended up spending years playing games on integrated graphics until a game finally taxed her system. She asked me what might be wrong and we discovered that the hdmi cable was plugged into the mobo hdmi instead of the gpu. We gamers do like big number go up. But often times we can settle for far less and still have a great experience.

The 1650 being in the lead isnt really a surprise. The card is almost always used in any run of the mill prebuild. Great card for a cheap esports build too.

One misconception about this statistic, is that most people can't afford to keep up to date with the newest stuff.
Yeah the newer models can do more. But most important, most of the time they draw less watts for the same amount of fps. If you limit the frames to match you Monitor, you'll save money in electricity. (maybe not enough to compensate the new Graphics card tho)
@@CrazyManuel94 And you have to correlate the statistic to the most played games on steam, which are CS:GO, DOTA 2, TF2, Apex Legends, and Rust. None of them require high end GPUs. If you want to play the latest AAA titles, you're not going to do that on a 1650, the numbers for esports games are just much bigger than those for AAA games, so the esports hardware is showing up at the top of the statistics. And on the other hand high end GPUs would be a waste of money and power for the games most people play.
@@CrazyManuel94 A higher end gpu is actually more efficient (electricity wise) than a lower end one when pushing the exact same workload (so same settings + resolution and fps limit). The actual reason is simply the upfront cost of the hardware. Most people don't even properly look at power draw when purchasing electronics.
I think RAM modules should clearly state their JEDEC speed as well as the XMP/EXPO profile speed in order to make it more obvious that people need to actively make it run at the factory OC speed within the BIOS.
A little asterisk * on the speed with some small accompanying text on the side or back of the box would suffice for me. Sidenote: can we all stop calling it Mhz when it's MT/s
If you don't know to enable XMP/Expo, then you should probably be checking your motherboard manual for compatibility, and that does explain how to enable it.
I think JEDEC and mobo vendors need to do a better job with being clear about DRAM timing voltages, naming, and descriptions. At this point I'd totally buy a buy a book about DDR4/5 overclocking from top to bottom if one existed. What exactly do I do when a timing name is missing in BIOS? Can we please end this offset garbage and use flat values instead? Can anyone make a proper Intel/AMD/JEDEC approved timing calculator? It's such a mess I don't even bother trying to find the real limits of my memory.

If you have enough RGB, you can't see the game you're playing, so theoretically it could be running at 1000 FPS.
My favorite misconception is "more RAM makes your PC faster". That can be the case. But an incredibly high amount of people don't realise that a PC for just office use won't get any faster with 128GB of RAM, than it is with 16GB, because most people have no clue how RAM works.
Another way of saying it is More RAM will prevent your PC from getting slower with RAM intensive apps but not necessarily make it faster unless you only have 1 stick and it's like 4GB.

Badly optimized programs suck but nonetheless saving too much RAM is bad, lowering performance and the potential of computers. RAM is cheap these days so I don't understand why it's a topic at all.
While most people primarily focus on FPS when buying a GPU, what truly should be taken into consideration is the RRR (Resolution, Response rate and Refresh rate) a monitor device can output. These factors are the only tangible way to fully 'feel" and enjoy the good performance a GPU truly delivers. People tend to forget how important a high-quality monitor display is and may end up compromising by choosing a cheaper option, especially when building a high-end rig with a low refresh rate monitor.
another thing i have have never seen tested i would love ot see is something like comparing framerates at differnt bit depths. cause we see things like 10-bit monitors advertised and i've always been interested but i wonder if the approximately 20% bit/pixel increase would actually lower performance, or if gpu's can handle that with 0 issues, cause it's something i've wondered but i've had 0 idea about

Misconception: Upgrading your GPU (only) for better gaming performance.
Years ago I upgraded my RTX 2070 to an RTX 3060ti. I was expecting a boost in performance of around 20% as suggested online, but I got around just 3%. What a disappointment. That was around the mining rush too so it cost me a kidney. I was about to return it, until a found a bottleneck calculator online. I now realise how obvious it should have been, but at the time I didn’t know; my old i7 4790 was bottlenecking the 3060ti… AND the 2070! It turns out, what I needed to upgrade was the CPU. My old 2070 ended up squeezing more juice out after that!

I’ve seen many people doing this lately on the tech forum I hang out at. People asking why upgrading from their 1080 to a 4070ti didn’t help their performance and I see they are using an old quad core CPU like a 4570K or something. Recently someone with a Ryzen 1700 got a Radeon 6950XT and I had to tell him he should have upgraded his CPU to a newer Ryzen especially since he was gaming esport games at 1080p and low settings. I’m always amazed that there are still people who don’t understand the concept of being CPU limited. But I can understand why, a 2500K with an OC was plenty for gaming for years. So not everyone understands that CPUs are progressing at a fast pace again. For me it has always been obvious as I started gaming in the 90s and CPUs were getting obsolete in a couple of years. You could get a 200mhz CPU and in 2-3 years there were 2000mhz CPUs. I just to upgrade the CPU every 2-3 years until the early 2010s when I could use one for 7 years before upgrading. Now I’m back to upgrading every 3-4 years.
I mean, the fucked up part here is that you thought 2070 to 3060 Ti was a worthwhile improvement, let alone an improvement at all. They're extremely similar. But yeah you would have thought the single-generation old GPU didn't need upgrading compared to the ancient CPU. While I'm crapping on the decision, I think it's good to talk about this so some noob out there can hopefully see it and save themselves, so that's nice.

Yes! Also I would add that the lack of a standard agreement for BIOS terms and basic interface between brands bothers me a lot. I get that they may want to introduce their own features, but the names of settings, basic order or menus and distribution of things should be more standard between the main mobo brands. A good example is the name of memory profiles itself: XMP DOCP EXPO EOCP why the hell 4 names to the same thing... My AMD/Gigabyte mobo calls it XMP.

A real report on how much RAM different levels of PC users *ACTUALLY* need, now. Is it 32GB or 64GB? Is 16GB really even viable anymore? What's the limit for 16GB? How much should you get if you want to have several browser windows open, chat, music, an IDE, some explorer folders, and a modern game? What about future forecasting and how much we should be getting now to hold good performance over the next five years? What are the effects of having to use a bunch of pagefile and running out of RAM? I know 16GB shouldn't be standard suggestion anymore for basically anybody. But, what should it be, and for who? What even constitutes a "power user"?
tl;dr 2x16 is the new standard since Windows 11 can chug 8GB on its own. You'll also need these if you want to play games in resolution higher than 1080p. You can consider 2x24 if you are running an Intel DDR5 platform - these new sticks are built with the latest tech and they get clocked higher very easily. Pagefile is always slower than RAM, try not to go above your RAM capacity. If you are sure that you will not run out of RAM you can disable pagefile all together.
Ram is cheap enough now to not worry. If you find that you regularly go over 10gb then get 32 to be future proof. It's basic math, not rocket science. Not knowing how much ram you need is like saying you don't know how much gas/battery you have left. There's a meter built in for you to check.
For example I've only hit 16gb a few times and my taskbar is always packed full. So only you know your usage. For the pagefile I use an old, cheap sata ssd and put it on there. Now I don't need to think about it ever again.
Where did you hear that 16gb isn't viable anymore? I've heard that about 8gb but definitely not 16. I game on Windows 10 @ 1080p with 16gbs and I don't think I've ever seen my ram go above 10gb even with my game, 100+ tabs, Spotify, discord, fan speed control software all open at the same time

I have a GPU comparable to the 1650 and while there are obviously a lot of games that you can play on it, by now there just are newer games where you won't get a good experience at all with this kind of card. Sometimes, it's just time to upgrade.
As someone with the rx 580 4gb I agree with that.
As someone who has had an rx 590 8gb as a main GPU before, I agree with that.
The 1650 is currently the majority, but looks like the 3050 is making moves to replace it. Still weak, but the updated drivers and architecture help immensely where the 1650 struggles.
And most people are not playing games that require any more than a 1650. We seem to forget that just because the next COD or GTA needs 32 Gigs RAM and a million cores doesn't mean the average collection of simple 2D games and emulators really doesn't require anything too beefy.
High refresh rate screens don't run at the framerate on the box most of the times, if you don't change your Windows and/or GPU settings.
Make a myth busters series
1. 3 year old CPUs are very much still viable for day to day use. Unless you're doing CPU heavy data crunches and compiles you will be fine with a i5 10th gen or 4th gen ryzen
2. If you're on a budget build and feel your PC be a bit slow despite having plenty of RAM (8 is bottom limit of comfortable, 12 is good, and 16 is plenty on budget) and and an SSD, consider upgrading the CPU. The GPU will have little affect on how fast windows will run and how fast apps open. Upgrade your GPU only if you plan on playing heavy games or rendering anything else.
3. AMD's FSR works on old Nvidia cards. My 1030 runs performance FSR on Deep Rock Galactic and it is glorious. If you're planning on playing games that supports it on a 16 series card, i don't see why you'd leave performance on the table, especially how unnoticeable it is on quality.
4. Ray tracing is snake oil, you won't notice it unless you know what you're looking for and LTT has a video on this yadda yadda yadda
5. Need a budget monitor? Buy a 1080p 75hz one or a 90hz one. That 25% and 50% of increase compared to 60 is VERY noticeable I promise.

DDR5 RAM modules may not be cross compatible between AMD and Intel at speed. Learnt the hard way they generally only have timing profiles set for one or the other.

XMP profiles may not work in your PC. You may need to manually set the speed/timings/voltage to make it work.
I bought a 32GB DDR4 4000 kit for my aging z370 board and would not boot with XMP. I manually downclocked and tightened the timings and got a stable 3600 CL16 working
There is JEDEC speed, then there is SPD (serial presence detect) speed, and then there is the rated speed. Most modern systems will default to SPD speed, rather than JEDEC. And some systems (most often laptop-class bioses) will not let you go faster than SPD speed.
The JEDEC speed and timing specifications are so highly conservative that most manufacturers raise even their SPD plug-and-play speed above that.

Never Mix Cables from One PSU to another, even though the cables may fit a plug, different Manufacturers have their plugs pinned specifically for their PSUs.
(This should be overseen my an engineering standard to protect consumers. if a plug fits it 'should' be safe to use, but it is NOT)
Misconceptions about (water)cooling. Such as push/pull, positive/negative pressure. Radiator after every component vs at the end of a loop, frequency of draining the loop. Or just what is truly necessary for modern hardware (ie watercoloring isn't necessary, air cooling is sufficient, etc)

as long as it's 3 ghz or higher clock speed, cache size is wayy more important than clock speed. a cpu with lower clock but more cache can beat a cpu with higher clock and less cache

With 7 year old GPUs being so widespread I'm disappointed that Intel and AMD haven't been more aggressive with their APUs to match such old hardware. Would love to see a day where you don't even need a GPU except for very demanding titles.
it's already basically here for most people. cs:go, valorant, rocket league, even apex can run on an apu. the issue is more to do with gpu's having desognated compute nodes/processors/other you can't really get without increasing the die size (and we know how companies are with that).
another example is look at apple m series processors. preformance per watt is actually kinda nuts considering it can tickle a 4090 at only aronud 150w, while a 4090 can consume (iirc) something like 600w.

On GB the M2 Ultra scores on par with a 4070 Ti*, according to apple's website the highest config of the mac studio can use up to 295W (CPU+GPU) but no official numbers are displayed. And a 4090 by design is a 450W card.
*I checked it myself, using a M2 Ultra review, on geekbench the M2 Ultra is equivalent to a 4070 Ti, which is 62% slower than a 4090(TPU).

While Ryzen Desktop APU's are still stuck with 5600G & 5700G as the latest options (there is 5300G as well, but it's OEM only). And it's been over 2 years now since we got an Desktop APU from AMD.
Monitors sometimes aren't set to the max refresh rate out of the box. Windows also needs set.
the by far most missconceptioned thing (especially here in germany as we tend to have high energy prices) is, that when a pc has or you upgrade your pc with a 700W power supply, they all think: omg, no i dont want this pc or upgrade or i want to use it only when i need it, cause 700W drawing from the plug is very expensive over time. most people think a pc sucks that much power which its rated for all the time. they dont recognize it as an limit, that it can draw much more power from the wall or that it only uses what it needs (in idle maybe 100W).
All they need is a program that can monitor the power usage. Not all machines have sensors though, but a free program can put all those worries to rest in seconds.

Easily the biggest is about network/WiFi speeds. Needing faster network speeds from their ISP is rarely a problem for most people. If their devices are slow, the problem is with their home or office network. Usually, it's a misconfiguration or just using crappy consumer gear.

If your laptop is making your lap/desk/table hot, then it is not overheating. This is mostly true for new more powerful laptops, but the more heat the computer is kicking out the cooler the CPU and other heat sensitive components are. If you want to know if the computer is overheating, use thermal monitoring software, open hardware monitor, and compare the temps it gives you to what a quick google search says is normal for your CPU and other hardware.
That cable management is only cosmetic and is not necessary for the actual function or health of the pc. Not managing your cables does not hurt the performance of your PC unless it actually physically preventing the air flow from going around it.
The air flow thing is a huge myth. I've tested it by shoving sheets of cardboard inside my computer. The air just goes around it. My temperatures didn't budge.
If you're going to upgrade your GPU, please make sure your PSU can handle it. Biggest mistake I saw when I used to work on customer hardware.

If you toss a 4090 (or any GPU upgrade) into something with an old CPU - you're likely massively bottlenecking the GPU; I mean, it will work, boot, and function; but you're really gimping your hardware and losing out on money not fully utilizing the FULL capability of your GPU.
Any GPU upgrade should be weighed against the CPU you have.
The one that always drives me nuts isn't a misconception by PC enthusiasts but about PC enthusiasts. Console fanboys will routinely bitch that making a PC is prohibitively more expensive than console gaming when that is a flat out lie. Much like this video points out you don't need the biggest, baddest computer for 90% of games. I built a computer in 2012 that lasted me until I built a new one in 2022 and stood up against literally every major title released and it only cost me $1100. That reads like more than the release price of the Xbox One or Playstation 4, but ignores the ten years of XBL or PSN (both $60/yr, or $600) I didn't need to pay for; how routinely PC platforms run deep discounts and so much more.

POWER OPTIONS: one of the culprits of a laggy and snail-like slow pc is the power option settings... By default its on the BALANCE MODE. But if you really want your desktop PC to run at its best, then change the power setting to PERFORMANCE MODE for the best performance.
Mind you, laptop battery will now drain like a leaning gasoline tank at this point; depending on your laptop configuration.
Here’s one for you. If your 1440p monitor tops out at 60hz or even 120hz, thinking that your need to buy a gpu that pushes 400+ to get a good gaming experience is a waste of time and money. Also, say you have a super powerful GPU for content creation and have a 120 HZ display, running vsync will deliver a solid gaming experience at a fraction of the power draw as your GPU won’t try and run with the throttle pinned to the floorboard. Last one. While running at 100% in something like r23 the intel 12th and 13th Gen cpus pull a ton of power, more than AMD. But in normal, daily use, intel is more efficient, drawing less power on average than AMD. Seems that people focus on the worst case as if that’s the only use case that exists. Be nice to see more people get it right.

I have a lot of people "in the know" telling me that I should upgrade my RTX-3090 to an RTX-4090 "just because it's one number higher, so it must be more l33t!".
The issue that I know is that it will also require a new power supply, and I will probably suffer the melted power plug issue with my luck. So that's a strong no from me.

It just happened to me last week, build a new rig three months ago and i didn't realize until 7 days ago that the memory modules were running at 2400 mhz instead of 3200 mhz, i just completely forgot to enable the XMP profile.

Yeaaaah man, I still play in my GTX770 watercooled and it rocks on 1080p. It only struggles a little for the most recent AAA titles, but for the majority of games, I can get around 70 to 90 FPS.
And also with a core i5 4760, 16Gb Vengeance 1600Mhz RAM.

Xmp just makes my pc blue screen every 20 minutes at its advertised speed, like what’s the point buying faster ram if it just crashes my pc when I run it at that speed? Sounds like false advertising to me
The reason the standard speed is so low is because the CPU cannot handle it when you enabled XMP your overclocking the CPU that handles access to RAM if you lost the silicon lottery you might not be able to reach the speeds, further more motherboard states how fast your RAM can be at max so that could also be your issue
The funniest misconception is that you can always just enable XMP/DOCP/EXPO and the CPU IMC will handle anything 😂

@@NameName-eq7oe the sticks of RAM in my mobo aren't on its QVL but still work. Their XMP profiles don't work so I had to manually OC them to their advertised speeds to get them to work. That's why I said yikes when the video said "enable XMP and away you go!"

My A10-7870k can't hit the XMP on the box of my 2400MT RAM I put in it. I have to turn it down to 2133.
Also, a lot of "older" (as recent as 10th gen) Intel CPUs can't even enable XMP unless you have a really expensive Z-series motherboard.

antivirus CAN hog your performance. Me and friends have had antivirus cause massive performance issues on multiple games and even software like folding@home, because as soon as any process took lots of resources, the antivirus would start checking it constantly for any weird behavior
The only antivirus software you need these days is the Windows Defender. Microsoft improved it a lot since the XP/Win 7 days and since it's a native Windows thing, it can run really efficiently with next to no overhead.

PC misconceptions. The biggest one that comes to mind to me, is people who say "This game is poorly optimized!" without having any sort of understanding of it.
1. default setting for shutdown in windows 10, doesnt actually completely shutdown everything..
it almost like hibernate without saving app..
if u want complete clean start up, choose restart.. OR u could turn off "fast start up" feature so shutdown will completely shutdown ur PC..
one way u can tell is from task manager, u can see the "up time", at default win 10,
-IF u shutdown and start up again, the Up time didnt reset,
-IF u shutdown and turn off the PSU (i dont recommend at this setting) the Up time will reset
-IF u turn off the fast start up feature, and shutdown, the up time will reset (turn off PSU is fine in this option)
-Restart from default windows 10, WILL restart ur Up time..
-Obviously, sleep and hibernate wont reset ur Up time
2. More core in cpu doesnt ALWAYS mean better performance, depend on many thing
3. Refresh in desktop wont do anything, its just placebo, by it self windows already keep refresh themselves..
4. defrag on ssd wont make much diff if not nothing.. its only make harddisk run better by organizing ur storage better so the sensor that read it wont work harder switching places..
but SSD doesnt work like this..

Yeah. My friend recently upgraded his PC and I was jealous for a moment, but to be honest my GTX1070 works perfectly fine. When I'm in the middle of getting sucked into a game I don't even notice the difference between max settings and mid settings.

One ancient misconception that refuses to die is people confusing “memory” and “storage”. When told they have insufficient memory for a task they delete half their drive and then bitch because it didn’t help. This has been a problem since the 1980s.
Check if your first pcie slot is tied to the first m.2 slot because if you put an m.2 nvme ssd
in that slot and a graphics card in the first pcie slot at the same time, it will make the graphics card run at half the bandwidth or worse, so check your motherboards pcie/m.2 Bifurcation set up in your oweners manual
If you have a relatively old pc/laptop running windows 10+ on the included HDD, and it's just super slow to start and do stuff, get rid of that POS (drive) and copy it over to an SSD. I have an ASUS i7 and a basic discreet GPU that is 9.5 years old. It basically runs like a brand new computer just with that update. It won't run most high end titles even circa 2014 (when I bought it). But it's a worthy dedicated server for valheim and such, playing various older games, and basic computer stuff. The screen is taped in with gorilla tape, it's missing half its screws, but you wouldn't know it's almost ten years old.
Whenever I buy new parts for my desktop, especially graphics cards, my brothers always frown upon me. But then they ask me why they can’t run the games or apps I’m using on their old laptops with integrated graphics. And I always give them the same answer.
Here's a question: I have a GTX 1650, and when I got it, I had a 1080p display. Recently, I was gifted a 3440x1440 LG curved monitor, and my games have gotten significantly harder to run, even at lower qualities. I mainly play FH4 and Minecraft (with shaders; yes, I know).
I don't have a lot of money to spend. Should I look at something like an RTX 3060 and hope the price comes down? Or is there a comparable AMD card? (I'd rather the Adrenalin software than NVIDIA's stupid GeForce Experience nonsense)
AMD is often the better deal these days. Used GPUs have finally come back down in price so now is a good time to upgrade.

I have a $300 mobo (at least it was at the time) because it was a package deal to get a GPU and I thought that was expensive. It sure is a nice mobo though.
Enterprise and "pro-sumer"/server boards easily get up to that price, but often at the consumer level many of the features integrated into the motherboard can be added via PCIe for less money, better quality, and upgradability. There is also usually one or two unused slots as most people use a GPU and nothing else.

Depends on games you play and resolution. Also on your target framerate. Same card, 1440p 165hz can't play all games I want hitting high framerate at max details, or even with some lowered, so I could use a better gpu, but for now I'm 100% fine and all new gpu's apart from 4090 look awful anyway.

As long as there are no performance and visual quality issues with games that someone is currently playing,
you can always wait with the upgrade until a game comes up that needs more VRAM or more performance to run at 60fps (or higher) with decent settings.
(Unless a new cryptocoin rush on GPUs is starting, then get one for cheap right away, before the prices start going insane again)
7900 xt owner here. I would recommend sticking with your current card until 8000- series. Remember that 7900 xt should pretty much be called 7800 xt, as 7900 xtx is the top card. Dont get tricked by the naming scheme.
Radeon 6000 to 7000 is probably not worth it unless you go from the very bottom to the very top of the product stack.

If you have multiple drives and are reinstalling Windows, disconnect all but the drive you want Windows installed on. The Windows installer has a habit of putting the boot manager on a secondary drive, so if you upgrade that drive, or it just does, it may leave your system unbootable. It's recoverable, but a real pain, so best to take a few moments to disconnect that steam library or additional storage.
This is interesting. I was trying to update my OS drive from MBR to GPT so I could enable Resizable Bar. And Windows says my SSD isn't compatible for changing to GPT. So I tried installing a fresh version of Win10 on a new drive but was unable to boot into it. I may have to keep this in mind if I get around to messing with it again, as I currently have 7 different kinds of drives connected to my PC lol.

I've never had it block an install, that's definitely odd. It's only when I've had a drive fail or pulled it out after replacement that things have gone wrong with it for me.
A common misconception people think is true about slow computers (and smartphones) is that they have a lot of software on it, more software = heavy device. While this would be true if you have 99% of the storage device full, it should not be true always.
Also it depends on the type of software/apps you have: apps that run in the background will use more PC resources, idle apps or having 50 games installed on pc that doesn't run all the time will not mean slow PC.
If my SSD has 50gb free or 250gb free should not affect general computer performance.

this is a bit ironic since you fell for the common misconception, that gpu numbers from steam survey paint the correct picture. they are seriously flawed thanks to asian internet cafes, so it seems that everyone has 1650's, while in reality that gpu wasn't very popular choice at all for eg.
So I'd like to add that "Performance modes/ MO POWAH" philisophies don't always give you the best performance. In laptops especially. In one of my Legion i7/GTX1660TI laptops, i actually get almost the exact FPS on the "cool/quiet" modes as i do my performance mode. Depending on the situation of course tho.
Reason for this is in my case is that the CPU gets capped @ 25w in cool/quiet mode. (GPU stays maxed at 80W) Most laptops probably follow a similar approach.
So if whatever you are playing isnt really CPU intensive where you need that extra oomph, or if you'd like quieter fans, or even worry about how hot your computer gets... consider changing your CPU wattage or turbo ratios.

Because the chemistry of the NiMH battery only delivers up to 1.2V. It would actually make a difference, as most device designed for AA batt. only knows to detect the voltage and warn you for low power. The NiMH cells already have a lower voltage to begin with, so the lifespan would appear "shorter"
A NiMH battery will sustain 1.2V most of its cycle while a 1.5V battery will soon drop below 1.2V and end up about 0.6V. That's why NiMH is better for most modern electronics but simple toys.
