Cover your Greenhouse at night to help lower light pollution, that is known to disrupt local nocturnal ecosystems(think of how bugs are attracted to light).. been growing Humboldt for years and have seen a difference in the ecosystems.
Interesting point you got there! do you think it would have an effect if I’m only running in a couple couple hours past sundown and only during winter?
It’s not hard it’s just costly, but its rewarding too. I keep it 50-70 on warmer nights/days and 40-60 on cooler days. I don’t need to heat it much during the day, but have to run the exhaust fan a most of the time. Hardest part is trying not to stress the plants too much 👍
I totally get it about the foam, but to put it into perspective, most organic farmers use degradable plastic to cover their fields baking in the sun, and are using compost laced with plastic from tire dust and other sources. So I’ll take my chances with foam that doesn’t break down and is uv protected by the greenhouse plastic, but I’m partial 😁 My yield is 175 lbs a week in 2400 square feet, 52 weeks a year maybe a little less in summer and a little more in spring and fall 👍 cheers!
your setup seems very nice. i was wondering, have you considered blocking light between your floating trays by using something underneath like black plastic film?
awesome!! can we have setup tour of these lights? planning for one in my farm.. testing one ( from india) also, do you means how much light duration needed to be put on? can we use it in tomatoes?
Sure I’ll see what we can do. They would certainly work for tomatoes but I’m not sure how economical it would be. Lettuce is a high value quick crop so it will pay for the lights and electricity!
Where I live the humidity outside in the winter is usually 70-100% how could I manage humidity in a poly tunnel, not sure on the exact size I think it’s 3.6x8
The best way is to heat it up over ambient with an electric or vented propane heater. Humidity is relative to temp so the warmer it is the lower the humidity. Most pro growers will heat and then vent a few times after the sun sets and then again in the morning. This absorbs the water like a sponge and then vents it out! Hope this helps. Alternatives to this is to get disease resistant varieties to whatever you’re dealing with. Good luck 👍
You have it so down pact that you can start playing mini-games and start spelling things out with your Rosetta Lolita! (If I'm not mistaken on the variety)
the 3.1 was the game changer in 2024.. 2.8 is a bit wastefull compared looks like running them closer to the crop and and turning down the watts make sense they are pretty far from the plants
Right, I maxed my budget out with the 8 x 2.8 and since it’s only supplemental I figured it would not make too much of a difference. My goal with the distance is to get 150 ppfd across the whole grow space which I easily do, this gets me to my target dli of 11 with the added sunlight 👍 thanks for the constructive comment!
Beautiful sight to see. Outstanding job
Thanks for the kind words!
Hope you cleared the runway, because that greenhouse is about to take off.
😂 funny you mention that I have planes circled my greenhouse all the time wondering what the heck is going on.
@@SaludaGradeFarm Probably thinking its a large scale weed operation.
@@SaludaGradeFarm🥬 is he growing lettuce? Or the devil's lettuce??? 🥬
This is a pretty interesting vid mate thanks.
You bet! Glad you enjoyed it.

Amazing
Thanks!
What are the temps in there and is it hard to keep it warm in there

@ yeah those are some big swings in temp! What are you doing to help keep it warm at night? Or it holds the heat from day time?
this makes no sense bro why are you growing lettuce under LED during night time ?! haha
Growing lettuce at night LOL

all the styro foam skeeves me out.... 6, 700w's running 3 hours a day, @.2 k/hr = 2.52$ a day x 30 days= 75$ a month.... what's your yield?

I have but I just deal with the algae for now, and a lot of times I run garden friendly fungicide to kill it 👍

You should check out Sulfur Burners. They'll kill all spores and keep the greenhouse warmer on average.
Welcome back.
No more tomato updates?
Thanks! No more, my tomato greenhouse got wrecked by hurricane Helene, gonna rebuild soon though!
@ sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get it all together soon.
It’s all good, that’s farming. People ask us all the time how we deal with losses, it’s just part of the process. Put your head down and move forward!
