Coming from the journalism world, I've specialized in excellent content writing, but mastering copywriting (even though I understand it in theory) has been a tremendous pain point for me because I now realize that I've been thinking more like a content writer. This is very helpful. I was always confused and didn't even know if there was a difference. Would be good to see an example of copy and content side by side so I know what they are both like as a piece of writing.

Wow! I love this explanation! Short, concise and to the point.
I'm a content writer at heart, and have had a hard time wrapping my head around the art of copywriting. It doesn't help that I'm from Sweden, where none of the usual business strategies you see on TH-cam really work. 😉 I always have to "translate" every advice to Swedish circumstances before using them.
But this was very easy to get a grip on and to use in my own way of thinking.

Though they might feel similar, there are huge difference between the two. If you can't figure out which one you want to do, start off by practicing both art forms and see which one suits your writing style best.

I was in a serch for high income skills and this is the best.. But i dont know whats actualy copy writing then i started learning.. Right from yesterday.. I heared about copy writing from siguard vedal and decided to get into it by dan vic's youtube video and continueing learning from your videos.. Teach me to became a good copy righter.. I hope il get more knowledge from your videos if i go more..

Interesting perspective. Ive always seen 'content' as the overarching umbrella...then you can segment further by 'types of content' Ie: Sales 'content' (sales letter, ads, vsl, advertorial) ; Engagement 'content' (videos, blog post, podcast, infographics, native)
Aaron Gagnon hey Aaron! Yes, you are right in that everything you mentioned is all technically “content”, in the way that all writing is words. However, the two terms “copywriting” and “content writing” are used in the industry to describe two very different skill sets. Whereas “content creators” can virtually mean someone who creates any sort of content - images, blogs, videos, etc - usually with the goal of engagement. Content writers are writers with the same goal. Copywriting is a much more specialized subset of online writing skills that requires more training and technique. It’s important to know the difference when you’re looking to hire a writer, and also for a writer to best position themselves when trying to find a client. Hope that helps 😊

I am green as grass with regard to becoming a copywriter. It is good to see the differences between content and copy writing presented in a clear way. I tend to write in the form of a story so I think I will lean more toward content writing.
