The thing about predominantly being around white people reminds me of something that happened to my grandmother. My grandmother is completely white, though I'm mixed (White and Mexican) and we live in an area of central California with a large Hispanic population. My grandma is also a Catholic, and goes to mass every Sunday. One day she was running late and ended up going to the mass scheduled an hour after the one she typically goes to. Turns out, that's the Spanish one. Not a huge issue, as when she first started going to Mass and converted to Catholicism, masses were still done all in Latin, and you followed along in the Missal. So she was doing just that, though getting a few stares from those around her. Then this small child, a little boy around three, looked and her, scooted closer to his mother, and began to cry.
So earlier today I ran into an issue and I'm not really sure what I should have done. I really need some advice. I'm a stocky white country boy. I wear boots, jeans, and my camo hat. My gf is black and I really do care about her, her personality is beautiful and so is she. It doesn't bother me when I get looks. But I encountered a really awkward and infuriating situation. So I decided to go with her to get her hair done... which takes forever. I'm almost 22 my hairline is starting to recede so I simply buzzcut with small spikes on the front lmao. But it was predominately a black hair salon. They were happy to see her but when they realized I was with her. The aura changed. I was the only white guy. All eyes were on me. Then someone said it. "Who woulda thought we'd see that around here." I could tell my darling noticed it too. She seemed pissed af. But I kept silent and squeezed my hands together hard I was about to erupt. I was trying not to speak because I have a temper and the fact I wrestle, box, and lift weights does not help me in a legal situation. Usually I'm calm and don't care but it got to me... What would you all do? Have you experienced this?
Mixed children are a beautiful product of a beautiful statement to put into the world which is that the races of my mother and father didn't stop them from bringing me into this world. I am a declaration of peace between both races and I am a declaration of the beauty of the differences in ethnicities and skin tones that God created for us to be. As a mixed person myself I'm gonna admit it we don't really fit into anything and yes we do get bullied for being black but we get the fun of both cultures and I would never change who I am and the way God made me for the world . God loves me and my parents loved each other so much to make me despite their race and that it is beautiful I don't care what yall say.
