The Basics of Playing the Hurdy Gurdy

- We discuss playing the coup, left hand position and movement, and briefly (very briefly) go over a tune.
It is important to have some foundation to start your playing with. Hopefully this will serve as a basic foundation for those getting started.
I stress in this video that the best way to proceed and become successful is to find a great teacher to help you learn and keep you moving forward. You can learn a lot on your own but a teacher can help to get you over those humps and fill in the gaps.

I'm kinda curious if anyone has input on the best way to find your keys without looking. Is this just an experience thing, or what? I find myself counting keys from the bottom to find my starting point on a song. Full disclosure - I'm a newb with literally 1 hour's experience so far.
Practice. Then some more practice.
I played the piano until I was about 17, but then didn't touch any instrument for 40 years, so they keyboard element has been easy, and working out the notes for a new tune is usually straightforward.
As a former pianist I found fingering a little tricky (I kept wanting to use my thumb and be able to cross over it with other fingers). I sometimes have to figure out the most ergonomic usage and experiment with different fingerings.
Also, there's nothing wrong with looking at the ends of the keys as you play.
And find tunes you like to practice with. Working them out is fun and you will enjoy yourself more.
