i always imagined druids having a supernaturally close relationship with mother nature. the true rhythm and essense of nature able to read with it and predict protect and develop.
In fact the Druid system of law, very similar to the mobile militia law of the Roman Empire were both absorbed into British Maritime law and then, even more confoundingly, into the law courts. This is why a Captain if a British vessel can marry and perform fuerary rites. He is ostensibly a Druid.
My father was a Druid spirit that wandered between the earth and the moon he told me in Cymraeg that our language came from the earth and the rocks, dwi’n dal yn weld e ar noson glir.
As mentioned, the Roman commentary on the Druids have to be taken with more than a grain of salt since Caesar first of all, not a trained anthropologist, so would not properly detach his feelings from his commentaries, and second, was in conflict with the society that the Druids were a part of. Similarly, commentaries by British writers may be coloured by the fact that the Druids are more associated with the Irish than the British, and until the Good Friday Accord, were in a guerrilla war with the Irish from Northern Ireland. I have personally experienced this bias simply because my name is Irish. I am *not* saying that the commentator in the video is biased, but you do have to keep that in mind when surveying the literature.
The druids were simply the native tribes of the today's British Isles named from Greek explorers in ancient times as ''δρυίδες'' (druides) which means people who live in the oaks. Other Greek names of the region include ''Scotland'' (Σκοτία) a Greek word for dark place, and ''Ireland'' (Ιρις) a word for visible light spectrum ,rainbow, which considering the amount of rain there makes perfect sense.
Ireland is the Anglo-Saxon name for Éire, or old Irish Éiru. It has nothing to do with Greek. Druids did not call themselves druids, this is a name given to them from people outside their society. Scotland did not call itself Scotia either, again this is a name given to them from the outside.
This man has the voice for documentaries.
