Big Tailor and Australian Salmon on Stickbaits

  • Same location, same plan.
    We were back down at my new favourite beach chasing Australian Salmon with the drone again.
    Having the fish mostly out of casting range didn't help with my goal of capturing the strike via drone but I was close a couple of times and the footage is getting better and better.
    Chris pulling a belter of a Tailor on the second day really topped off a bloody good trip.
    Once again if all you want to see is fishing action skip to about 3.15.
    I'm constantly filming and editing and have a heap more content/stories to put out under the 'Fish Tales' name.
    Show your mates, link your mates, get on board and subscribe if you want to see more.

      The best, shame its so difficult to get to, the last time I went there it would have copped the full force of the easterlies and been horrible.

    I just liked & subbed. In a camp site like that, I would definitely have a couple of slabs of tailor on a grill plate. This is what I'm looking forward to doing with a mate of mine in the future.

      Thank you mate. Yeh this has turned into one of my favourite types of fishing, 4x4ing and camping on the beach, searching with the drone and then finally waiting till they come into casting distance.
      I'm pretty sure mine isn't a Sea Jigger, it is a Daiwa, its a Japanese model Saltist I think, I've never seen one in aus. Suits my 4000 size reel perfectly though and casts great.

      Kwillo89 yea right looks the same ,, I had to get mine ordered in from Daiwa cause no one stocks them they look the same thou either way bloody sick rod we've just bought a drone to can't wait to use it for the same kinda thing be perfect

      Yeh I think the main difference is mine is only 8 foot 7. Yep drone is absolutely perfect for this type of fishing. Good luck!

      Thanks mate. I use a Japanese model Daiwa Shore Jigger 8'7", have matched with a Daiwa 4000 Catalina and 20lb line which makes for a very light setup, lure wise just a sinking stickbait around 30-40 grams that can sink below the waves.

  • @gungahlin10

    Great vid gents with some clever drone action. Whats your gear setup as i'm looking to downsize my 12 ft beach rods for spinning to lighter rods.

    • @kwillo89
      @kwillo89  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mate you have to do it, its bloody bliss! I use a Japanese model Daiwa Shore Jigger 8'7", have matched with a Daiwa 4000 Catalina and 20lb line makes for a very light setup. I've stood next to guys with 10 foot plus rods with heavy Richter plugs and out casted them easily with the right lure. Both Daiwa and Shimano have a few reasonably priced rods in the 9 foot region which would be perfect.
      Thanks! The drone is turning into an essential beach tool.

    • @collieyak971
      @collieyak971 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a 6.6 2-4kg Rovex (Bream Rod) 10lb braid and 20lb leader, 40g gold twisty and I can cast it a mile, awesome fun on ultra light gear. Be warned no good if the conditions are crappy

      @@denismestrovich8602 Not sure on the model number but they haven’t been available for years and it was a Japanese only model. I think both Shimano and Daiwa have rods that suit though, look at 9’6” and 20lb, there should be heaps more range than when I bought this.

    Sinking or floating stickbait?

    • @kwillo89
      @kwillo89  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heavy fast sink stickbait for these guys, better for long casts and getting below the surf.
      When it’s calm the strikes are better with floating but fish need visibly see it.

    • @kwillo89

      @@kwillo89 WOW ! I didn't expect a reply this quick. Thanks for getting back to me and thanks for the awesome video. I will probably have to do a bit of research before i commit to one. From your experience with drones, is the Phantom one of the better ones ? I just shared your video with my mate. Told him, "this is US, champ". lol

    • @kwillo89
      @kwillo89  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steiny3353 Thanks for sharing haha. I think you would be safe with any of the DJI range, I think the main consideration is your size and budget. The Phantom being the largest has the best camera and is easy to catch in the wind, the downside being it takes up an entire backpack. When I purchased the Mavic the camera was good enough for me (still is) and it fits in my current camera bag. It's on now with that I'll be doing more filming out of boats that my priorities have shifted. Hope that helps!

    What is that stickbait called?

    • @kwillo89
      @kwillo89  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What I use (blue one) is a Daiwa OS 110S and the larger size which is a 130S, I'm not sure what the model the pink one that Chris used was. I favour a heavy sinking stickbait that I can cast out in the surf and get down to the fish.
