Just brilliant, A complete triumph. I bought the CD as soon as it came out and love every composition. I first saw Rare Breed as a young boy at sleepaway camp and the theme has resonated with me for my entire life. Thanks for posting this exquisite work of a master at the height of his power.
At 4:36 - the leading motif with the brass chords/brass counterpoint is enough to make you weep. Hell, I've teared up several times listening to it. What's incredible about this music is, using only two very straightforward motifs (the leading theme and the secondary 'Irish' theme), J.W. provides almost a 'Philosopher's Stone' (the concept, not the Harry Potter flick) of his entire oeuvre; you can hear bits and pieces of almost everything that is to come. It is a pity a full recording was never released.
It is interesting that Williams is mostly kknown for sci-fi and fantasy scores many of his best work are in fact ones that he wrote for westerns. To my money anyway. I love the brasses especially in this one. The Cowboys is another great score.
