@nickhiggsthesinger I would like to suggest another cover of Phantom of the Opera inspired by the NightWish version. It's a solo artist doing both Christine and the Phantom. The singer is Kang Hyung Ho,he is a member of the south korean crossover vocal quartet Forestella, but he has also a solo career with his band Pitta!
Please look for Floor Jansen and Henk Poort doing this on a dutch show called beste zangers (best singers). It is not a competition but just the best dutch singers singing for each other
I’m sorry to ask but… source perchance? Not that I don’t find it feasible, he seems to be a rock fan, but I’ve heard this a few times and I’d like to know where he said it.
@@Ballin4Vengeance I've looked for a source but can't find one. IMDB has two references in the trivia section, one says "Andrew Lloyd Webber "absolutely loved" their cover" and the other says "Nightwish's cover of "The Phantom of The Opera", with Tarja Turunen and Marko Hietala at End of An Era (2005 Hartwall Areena), is Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite version to date." Neither point of trivia has a source and my attempts to find one just use the same wording. The closest I could find was an article talking about a prog musician visiting the Nightwish studio who loved the sound because "It's intelligent music in every respect" which is what Webber writes.
Hello Nick Higgs [ @nickhiggsthesinger ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Helsinki in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tar-rya], the 1st female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community
Welcome to symphonic metal and Nightwish. Andrew Lloyd Weber HAS heard this, and he loved it. Arrangement here is by the keyboardist , Tuomas Holopainen. He is the band mastermind, writing and composing 90-95% of their songs. Tuomas, Tarja, and guitarist Emppu Vuorinen formed the band in 1996. Song #5 in an 18 song set here in 2005. It was Tarja's last Nightwish concert after 9 years and 5 albums. She was fired after the show, but has gone on to a long and successful solo career. Marko does have a great voice, he sang backing and co lead on a lot of songs, and lead on a few. He left the band in 2021 , for personal reasons, after 2 decades. He was lead singer in his first band, Tarot, which he formed with his brother at age 16. See the comment from Gabriel Bardac for more info, and links to a lot of their songs.
@@nickhiggsthesinger In fact, Tarja was expelled, fired, despite her seemingly indispensability as a soloist, but this bitch and her husband began to irritate everyone unbearably, they tired everyone so much with their ambitions that she was kicked out of the group by a unanimous decision of all participants, she was simply given a kick in the ass the day after the concert. She repeatedly stated that she could leave the group at any time, simply by giving one day's notice, and constantly blackmailed the gang with this, so a day later (after the concert) she was fired. Well, then there was a scandal about how unfair it was, controversy surrounding Nightwish and the division of fans into two camps. But I note that all this noise contributed to the successful sales of not only the DVD of this last performance with Tarja, but also generally inspired everyone to buy Nightwish discs. I don’t rule out the possibility that it was a conspiracy, but in fact they all quietly decided that everyone was going their own way and created a scandal to create this excitement. But personally, I never liked Tarja, and they could have been better than her. Amy Lynn Hartzler (Evanescent), Simone Joanna Maria Simons (Epica); Diane van Giersbergen (Xandria), Amanda Somerville (Exit Edem),
Man, it never gets old seeing Music Theater fans being blown away by this electrifying Nightwish version. Even more so when they know about singing like Nick.
Marko is one of my favorite singers of all time. His Nightwish work, Tarot, solo, all his guest appearances on others….. He is just a special performer.
Don't know if anyone talked about it yet, but the poor drummer played this entire show with a horrible migraine. Still absolutely killed it. Brave man. I've heard several renditions of Phantom, and this is by far my favorite.
@@patrijsradijs He did end up stepping down shortly after Floor's arrival for this exact reason. Can't blame the guy at all, though. I'd say he hung in there a lot longer than most of us could.
@@lisathewhitewolf are you saying Floor is the reason of his departure, or because the switching of the singers, or tge migraines? I'm not sure how to interpret your reaction.
Marko sings the Phantom like the sinister and aggressive monster he is. His commands to scream at the end are very different from the traditional Phantom asking Christine to sing. Nightwish makes this song exhilarating and beautiful, not just beautiful
The phantom should be "scary", but since musicals are for "normies" and the singers want a "clean reputation", the performance is typically slick/clean rather than scary.
Metal is FULL of the most talented singers you'll find on the planet. Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Seven Spires, Sabaton, Jinjer, In This Moment, Eluvitie, Dragonforce...the list is endless. Metal is a rabbit hole many people never find their way out of because it is so much deeper and more involved than people outside of the metal world understand.
Just to make Marko even more amazing, he had a botched throat surgery in the 90s and it destroyed his vocals. He retrained himself to sing to get around some of the limitations but when he joined Nightwish he just wanted to play bass, the band had to convince him to sing and he's still going today in duets, cameos and solo work.
😂 you need to listen to High Hopes sung by Marko, the same concert❤ Awesome!! Thanks for your great reaction 😄 Greetings from Finland, the birthplace of Nightwish 🤗
By starting publishing your reaction to Nightwish with Tarja you're showing the respect Nightwish and it's Army deserve. Thank you so much ❤ I'm a huge Floor Jansen fan since 2004 and she lead me to Nightwish. But I fully realise without her history and the history of Nightwish they wouldn't have been such a wonderful match. Tarja and Floor are great friends by the way. Greetings from The Netherlands.
The smile on my face when you said Marco can sing whilst knowing full well what was coming. Great reaction and as a member of the nightwish army I am looking forward to more
For me, this is not just the best version I’ve ever heard of the phantom of the opera just because I love this song and this kind of music, but because of the “in character” the singers are. They sound exactly how I imagined their voices sounded when speaking when I read this book when I was 12 yo, and here I am, 13 years later crying because I finally found their “real voices” my inner child heard when reading.
Nightwish is a band made of of extremely talented musicians who all play for the song. You won't find any egos here. The result is a total that is greater than the sum of its parts. I hope you do follow along with more Nightwish, and some of the other epic symphonic metal bands like Epica with their fantastic lead singer Simone Simons.. The talent in this particular genre of metal is out of sight. I'm guessing from what you said about your background that you would like the song that is the usual introduction to Nightwish. That is "Ghost Love Score" live from the Wacken 2013 concert. It features their third, and current singer, Floor Jansen. After that, well, Nightwish has an extensive catalog and you won't find a bad song in the bunch. And, Nightwish is a band that, good as they are in their music video, really excels at live performances. Subscribing to follow along with your new, and exciting, journey.
@@nickhiggsthesinger Their lives are usually better than their recorded stuff, they are all veryu talented artists that can only improve things as they go
you reacted the same as i did the first time i heard this. Marko BEST phantom I've EVER seen! you are going to love your Nightwish Journey! NWA cali. This version I've heard 100's of times never gets old for me either. Webber loved it btw
Tarja is a classically trained lyrical soprano. Please react to Ghost Love Score from the same end of an era concert and Tarja solo singing Pie Jesu. She is amazing. Marko released a solo album with a duet with Tarja called Left On Mars. Tuomas said in an interview about GLS: "Doing this kind of really orchestral, symphonic stuff for four albums, you have to be prepared to take the next step and go 10 steps beyond, and that's how we ended up with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. At that time we also had the financial resources to do it." So, there`s an actual Orchestra doing amazing backing vocals and symphonic stuff, it sounds incredible.
Your reaction to Marko was EVERYTHING. Loved it. To my untrained mind, this is THE Phantom of the Opera to which all others are measured (and all, even Floor's, fall short). Nick came for Tarja, but stayed for Marko. Welcome to the Nightwish Army, sir! Also, if you want more Marko, check out *While Your Lips Are Still Red* . /Nightwish Army Japanland division signing out
I saw them on their Once Upon A Tour in August of 2004, just over a year before this performance. They did this song in their set, and I still remember the full-body goosebumps. Tarja and Floor bring different things to the material, but both are phenomenal vocalists.
One thing i just now noticed, on 'your spirit and my voice, in one combined' it almost sounds like sge goes down and he goes up, like kind of reversing the dynamics for a moment
Glad you're excited with Nightwish. Your reaction was pretty much mine when I head this the first time. Now that you've covered Nightwish, please react to their Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013 which was sung by Floor Jansen, the 3rd and still lead singer of Nightwish. You won't be disappointed.
Then from this same concert Tarja's version. Since it was her that inspired the song. or rather Tuomas feelings for her. Tarja was already married in 2002 to Marcello. Still married in 2024 in fact. She never covered it solo evidently because Tuomas asked her not to.
i love nightwish, especially with Floor (who is from my country, and she has also been in a couple of other fab bands, listen to those, PLEASE), and watching you enjoy and appreciate them too is amazing! thx!!! ❤
I saw one of their last shows with Tarja on Wacken, we already knew she was leaving the band, so we definitely had to see them. We were in third row which was absolutely intense - so cropped and so much movement, sometimes I was just lifted of the ground and pressed against other people. But what impressed me most about her performance and stayed in my mind: Being so close I was able to hear her actual voice despite the sound coming from the boxes and those are incredibly loud. I listen to metal since my teens and saw many metal bands live, but never before or after I experienced something like this.
Great reaction. :) Tarja was studying operatic singing in Finland and then in Germany, so she would be opera singer, but she chose Nightwish, and she was first female operatic singer in metal music, she opened doors for sooo many talented female singers and started how symphonic metal is recognized nowadays. If you want to hear her full vocal abilities, I really recommend her solo career, for example what you can't really hear in Nightwish songs is her chest voice, she has very deep, dark and beautiful chest voice. In solo career she has rock and metal songs, ballads, she performing classical and operatic music, she even have her own "Ave Maria", also christmas music, amazing two albums with christmas songs in dark arrangements, she's also part of electronic duo Outlanders, you have many different options to listen. ;) Classical music and metal music have much in common, there is similar instrumental structure in many cases, metal music can be very melodic and also very difficult to play, very technical. If you want to hear best vocalists, you definitely should listen to Kokia, she's japanese singer, songwriter, composer, arranger and producer, she's classically and operatically trained, but it's not her main vocal technique she's using. She's the best female singer I've ever heard, her technique is insane and she has so beautiful voice and is so emotional. I really recommend song "Chouwa Oto" live from History concert tour 2012 or "Il Mare Dei Suoni" from the same concert, if you want to hear her more operatic technique (this second song is in italian) or if you want something different, I really recommend song "Gematria" live from Layers ~Lights and Shadows~ concert 2016, this song is like a journey. Oh, and she using back vocals in her music, also on live performances, all recorded by her. I hope you will react to her! ;) Btw, metal music and classical music have much in common, musically have similar structure and metal it's not only harsh vocals. I would recomment another jaoanese music, rock/metal band with just amazing singer. I will recommend something not that heavy, so don't worry. ;) Band is The Gazette and song is "Dim Scene", please react to live version from 2014 with english translation, if you type just "the gazette dim scene live eng sub" there should be video with title "the Gazette DIM Scene (eng sub)', so please react to this one. This song is just amazing, definitely one of my favourite by them, and Ruki's vocal is incredible, you just must hear that. Some info, it's band from Visual Kei movement, it's like music, fashion and subculture, it have some connections with traditional japanese theater kabuki, so in music there are mostly guys, even if some of them have very feminine image (from what I saw, for western people almost all looks like girls...), but in this band all members are guys. I'm curious what would you say about Visual Kei vibrato, very strong and beautiful. :) And beautiful clean vocal is very important in most Visual Kei subgenres (there are many variety of this movement in both music and fashion), but in the same time many singers using svreams and harsh vocals, Ruki too. In this song are some very emotional screams. Whole song is very emotional and deep.
@@esttelavidalinarolonmontie5431First... If you answering on comment in english language, answer in english... First, no one forced Tarja to be in Nightwish, she chose it and loved being part of this band, so yes, Tarja chose Nightwish over opera career. ;)

Nice reaction. I appreciate your knowledge and enthusiasm. This was the first Nightwish song I ever heard, then I heard Sleeping Sun, then Ghost Love Score. I was hooked. Definitely one of my favourite bands!
After 2 decades Tarja & Marko healed the old wounds and are currently performing together once again. Tuomas is the mastermind but Marko & Tarja were the soul of Old Nightwish.
@@enlightendbel In Marko's own book he wrote how annoyed he was with Tarja and he kind of encouraged them to fire her as he was more of an outsider than rest of the guys in a band.
I lost the love i've once had for Marko. He leaves this little NW family for some strange reasons. Wanted to be far away from the music business, from shitty society, away from everything. And i was with, happy for him. I could somehow understand him. Ha, just to find out that after only some months later he was back. Playing again, did even some small concerts, gaves interviews, recently he released some new songs. But on very top of that..he's now close to, argh, to Tarja (the voice without emotional feelings). Well, Tarja...snakes stays snakes. And then this phrase '...they healed old wounds.' Wtfh, dude, be sure, female beasts can leave Grand Canyon sized wounds that will not heal in million years. And Tarja did exactly that. Just ask Tuomas, even he said he's over it. I felt so damn sorry for him, back in the days. And so i do now, when i imagine him seeing Marko & double face carnivore Diva Tarja. But i'm already happy again, just by thinking of the fact that Nightwish lives on and on and on...sucsessfully, without a Marko..and without Black Mamba Tarja, hehe😅
@@stefanstock953 The NW family you talk about kicked Tarja out and let the fans know about it before she did (They fired Sami too). Jukka left the band way before Marko fue to health issues. And Floor performing while being pregnant is awesome but it rings a bell
One of my favorite pieces of music, even before I found Nightwish. Marco had an instant fan in you once he opened his mouth. You have just touched the surface. Welcome to the world of Nightwish. Texas division checking in.
It makes me incredibly happy that you have such an appreciation of Marko’s voice. He’s fantastically versatile and, imho, the best male vocalist of his generation. Try High Hopes or Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red for some Marko as lead singer. He’s phenomenal.
WOW! Never heard of "Nightwish" and YT's AI only proposed your channel to me not so long ago, though I am a fan of classical music, opera, and some musicals (this ranks amongst the highest on my chart). Thanks for your reaction to/review of their take - I enjoy(ed) it as much as you did. Ta!
It's so refreshing to see someone getting to know the OG Nightwish first. Don't get me wrong, the Wacken 2013 performance is stellar, but it is not all there is to know about the band! Loved your reaction!
I'm super late but Tarja IS an opera singer to begin with. This live has so many things interesting about it, how the drummer had a terrible headache and his back was in shambles, how the bassist had recently lost his voice, how this was their last concert with the singer..... Nightwish ( Tarja's era) was SUCH a wonder for fans of fantasy, escapism and aetheral beauty
Andrew Loyd Webber loved that song by Nightwish❤️and Tarja is an opera singer in this life too!!! You should check "the beauty and the beat concert" with Tarja and Mike Terrana!!!
@@kazubekf.k2448 why do you people keep repeating this bollocks. She did and still does pure opera shows and DVDs from time to time, you can find them even here on TH-cam with a 5 second search. Is this one of these retarded Floor obsessed sheister talking points to stir up shit about who's the best Nightwish singer? All 3 were great in their own right. Tarja OWNS some songs, Floor OWNS some songs, get over yourself.
I love how shocked you are :D Both Marko and Tarja are absolutely fantastic singers, and this is my favorite performance of this song. :) Yes Tarja is a fully trained opera singer. Nightwish's 2nd female lead singer Anette had a more pop and jazz style voice, her albums are great; and the 3rd, Floor, is really versatile, uses rock voice/belting/classical style and is absolutely amazing live too :)
This is 2005. Helsinki I was there at 16. The last show of the Finnish Five. NW formed by Thomas (keyboardist/ composer/arranger….Metal Mozart) Emppu ( elven lead guitar) and Tarja. They were 19 and HS friends.1996. Jukka is drummer. Marco came in 2002. Early NW has a Tolkien goth feel and is darker and romantic. After Tarja left it was a bit poppy for a few yrs. Then came Floor in 2013. NW now is v symphonic( Hans Zimmer ) and arena. Still great. Diff vibe. But most like first or third stage best. I will always be Tarja. My first love and that’s more my vibe. But I respect the Floor NW as brilliant. Thomas writes for how he feels and for the singer’s voice. ALW has said this is in his top 3 Phantom covers.
Honestly, when I first heard this version, I wasn't a fan. I was so tried and true to the original on stage, but over time this has become one of my favorite renditions. The production, contrasting vocals of more classical and rock but they blend WONDERFULLY. I just love this musical, and specifically this song so much. Amazing stuff as always Nick!
Nightwish is one of the greatest symphonic metal bands. This is my favorite version of the Phantom of the Opera. Marco sounds like a Phantom, doesn't he?
Your reaction and analysis was a joy to watch! Great job on pronouncing Tarja's name! You're one of the them few who do. It's even more fun to say here whole name, Tarja Turunen! Eventually, since you love Phantom, you should check out two more versions. Floor Jansen (Nightwish vocalist since 2012) does an amazing version on a Dutch tv show called Beste Zangers with Dutch singer Henk Poort (who played the Dutch Phantom). There is also a live version with Floor and Nightwish that is amazing! Actually, there's a third by a Swedish guy named Tommy Johansson (you'll thank me)!
There are so many incredible “operatic” singers in metal, each of them bring their own style to the music. Simone Simons, Sharon Den Adel, Floor Jansen, Tarja, all of them are phenomenal vocalists…and don’t even get me started on the ones who scream and growl, and sing too…(Tatiana) 😂
Tarja is not exactly an opera singer but she studied lyrical singing at Sibelius Academy Helsinki and Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She is a classical lied singer with a three-octave vocal range (soprano). Welcome to Nightwish and metal music. This underappreciated genre is full of extremely skilled musicians and heaps of creativity. I hope you keep exploring outside your comfort zone. Trust me, it's worth it.
This is why I absolutely love Industrial music because it has branched into many different genres of its own mixing extensive music notes with powerful vocals to match.
This is a great place for an opera singer to start listening to symphonic metal. Metal and rock can involve great musicianship and great singing. It doesn't have to be mediocre. Great rock isn't.
Since the first time I heard Nightwish version of Phantom of the Opera I was like "That's it! That's how an obsessed phantom should be!" everything is just perfect! It always gives me goosebumps and gets me emotional, love it!!
What a great reaction ! Just subscribed and look forward to watching your channel. So many awesome Nightwish songs to listen to because they don’t make any bad ones.
This was easily the most satisfying reaction video ever made in response to this performance! Loved seeing the genuine awe and excitement as well as your understanding of the original material, I was smiling all the way through! I grew up on Tarja and Marco's voices, and I'm so glad this was your first touch with Nightwish.
I didn't see Nightwish videos for a couple of months, and now when I hear this song, I have a full body chills and goosebumps. No singer/band was able to make me feel like this before.
It was a joy to see your reaction. I suggest you to do Nightwishs version of High Hopes next, also with Marco as singer. So curious what you’ll say about it! Greetings from Germany 🤘🔥🫶
I never get tired of people discovering how awesome Marco is ❤ every reactor approaches this expecting to talk about the female singer, but it’s Marco that gets them amazed.
I never got to see them do this one together until last year. After all this time Tarja and Marko got together again and did the Phantom. Tarja is incredible, you should watch her Supremacy live at Woodstock Poland.
Welcome to the high drama, high art world of Nightwish. I see Gabriel has visited, his list is an excellent launching pad for further exploration and explanation.
I subscribed because there's nothing that I like better than a novice listener (to the genre) realizing that rock music, and especially metal music, takes real skill and talent. I can't wait til you discover the great grunge rock singers!
Tarja was the original lead singer of Nightwish and she was fired after this very same show this performance was part of. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player and songwriter / composer of Nightwish wrote a song about the aftermath and for that I'd recommend Wembley 2015 performance with their current singer Floor Jansen: The Poet and the Pendulum.
Welcome to the genre! :D It's great to have such a passionate, positive reaction-video-maker explore the raw musical talent that resides here. ;) Nightwish is great, they have many, many really strong songs, I've been a fan since I was 15, their music has been the soundtrack of my life. But I have to mention Roy Khan too, as you are looking for the best singers; his voice just has that special something. Check out his band Kamelot and prepare to be amazed. ;) And there is of course Ayreon; that is a vocalists overload! They somethings have... what is it? 9? 10 vocalists live on stage at once. XD I'm new to your channel, so I am going to sub and bingewatch some of your older vids now. ;D Keep up the great work!
When pop singers sing about a break up or betrayal, it’s still a poppy upbeat song. When metal singers do it, you feel their pain, anger or jealousy. Metal to me has more of a punch to the gut. I love musical theater for the same reason. I heard Nightwish’s version after Phantom came out and was hooked ever since.
In my, humble opinion, rock and metal music is a true test for a musician. If you are good, you will be praised, if you make a mistake, 90% of the audience will notice!
Tarja WAS a singer at the Opera of Buenos Aires.....I love your breathlesless after hearing these heavenly sounds :-) And your way of understanding, that metall needs way more talent, as the most peaople are thinking
The Voice of Finland in this version and Floorgasm Jansen in today's variation both just kill it. And, lastly, you're killing the reaction video scene with your enthusiasm. :)
Before I watch your reaction...before I read a single comment...I know, as does almost everyone that came here, that 'Ghost Love Score' is what everyone will request next..LoL!! Just saying, its a given from the Nighwish Army!!
For me, that's how Phantom should be sung, and I wish it was. Both parts, plus the heavier musical take on it. Forever and always, the best performance of this song I have ever heard.
It was such a joy to see your passion and enthusiasm for this interpretation on a classic . I strongly encourage you to watch some live performances from Waken 2013.
Great reaction! I never thought I would love music like this, but nightwish have very quickly become one of my favourite bands! I would recommend listening to Ghost Love Score live at Wacken 2013 next. It has their current singer, Floor Jansen, but is usually the performance most people listen to first for a taste of nightwish.
Something to know about metal: it is NOT 'rage music'. It is a passionate expression of the soul. It is just a style. It's not 'angry'. It's just passion. It's depth of feeling. Esp with 'Scandinavian' metal. Check out Leaves' Eyes, they sing about lovers being separated by Viking exploration. Tristania is incredibly poetic. Metal is NOT 'angry' it's just an expression.

I've seen him few days ago with Tarja, he seems to be happy and healthy now. I wish he does what's best for him.
@@karolinak6014 I am sad that he isn't playing with Nighwish, but, I am happier that he has returned to music and seems healthy and happy
well, he is still around, outside of the nightwish, reunite with his friend Tarja
Andrew Loyd-Webber himself called the cover from Nightwish as "one of the best Versions, he heard till 2015"!!!!
What did he hear in 2015 that surpassed this?
@@weedidi7144 maybe it was in 2015?
I’m sorry to ask but… source perchance? Not that I don’t find it feasible, he seems to be a rock fan, but I’ve heard this a few times and I’d like to know where he said it.
@@Ballin4Vengeance I've looked for a source but can't find one. IMDB has two references in the trivia section, one says "Andrew Lloyd Webber "absolutely loved" their cover" and the other says "Nightwish's cover of "The Phantom of The Opera", with Tarja Turunen and Marko Hietala at End of An Era (2005 Hartwall Areena), is Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite version to date."
Neither point of trivia has a source and my attempts to find one just use the same wording. The closest I could find was an article talking about a prog musician visiting the Nightwish studio who loved the sound because "It's intelligent music in every respect" which is what Webber writes.
He never said that !!
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "

Love this! THANK YOU for all of the info ♥️
dont forget Juka
Where did you find that Andrew responded to the nightwish version. I am trying to find it to see what he says.
As someone who suffers migraines, damn! He WAS killing it!
Just like... how does he do that?! I can't even function a little bit if I have a migraine.

Very true.

I also love Nightwish version of High Hope. Truly amazing with Marco vocals
Your pronouncing "Tarja" is best Non-Finnish I've heard in these reactions!
Absolutely agree! I have a cousin named Tarja on the Finnish side of my family, and this is exactly how I've always known it to be pronounced.
I also noticed it. Especially the second time he pronounced her name I think? Nice
I agree!
Indeed!
agreed too many spanish tarjas there with the h or tarza.. tar-ya is the way to go! of course T is strong and rolling R
Damn, I've been a fan for 20 years and never knew that. I've found Marko amazing even without knowing it.
Al fin veo un comentario muy certero por mi gusto personal me inclino ante Tarja pero Floor es muy buena como cantante 🤘🏻
The smile on my face when you said Marco can sing whilst knowing full well what was coming. Great reaction and as a member of the nightwish army I am looking forward to more
Next time you’re cast as Phantom you’ll be channeling your inner Marco. 😂. The demented distortion really adds to the persona of the Phantom.
For me, this is not just the best version I’ve ever heard of the phantom of the opera just because I love this song and this kind of music, but because of the “in character” the singers are. They sound exactly how I imagined their voices sounded when speaking when I read this book when I was 12 yo, and here I am, 13 years later crying because I finally found their “real voices” my inner child heard when reading.
this is the cutest and most sincere reaction ive seen in a while
You have entered into one of the greatest bands on this planet. GREAT REACTION !!!!!!!
His genuine excitement is sooo contagious 😍 I really love it ❤
Welcome to the magical world of nightwish best live band on the planet imho more please
I always respect bands that sound just as good live. Thanks for this information - it will be really helpful for my future videos 🙂
@@nickhiggsthesinger Their lives are usually better than their recorded stuff, they are all veryu talented artists that can only improve things as they go
@@ACIoannina I agree. Live lets them let out all the emotions.
Tarja is even better live than in Studio.
you reacted the same as i did the first time i heard this.
London Metro choir did the backing choir fyi. The album had a budget of 1 Million Euros. The videos had 3/4 of a million Euro budget.

As usual 😂 everyone comes for Tarja, and ends up hooked up with Marko 😂
I would love your reaction of The Siren and Slaying the dreamer as well from the end of an era concert! 👏🏻
Yessss!!
Bro your reaction is very similar to mine just a few months ago. This was the first NW song I ever heard. Blown away. So much more to listen to man.
Kiitos!
Ghost Love Score - looking forward to reacting to that 😁
Then from this same concert Tarja's version. Since it was her that inspired the song. or rather Tuomas feelings for her.
Tarja was already married in 2002 to Marcello. Still married in 2024 in fact.
She never covered it solo evidently because Tuomas asked her not to.
@@nickhiggsthesingerYES..Please do. Looking forward to that a 100% New Sub!

Floor's version, pls!
i love nightwish, especially with Floor (who is from my country, and she has also been in a couple of other fab bands, listen to those, PLEASE), and watching you enjoy and appreciate them too is amazing! thx!!! ❤
If more opera was done in "symphonic metal" style, you'd have die-hard opera fans forever
In solo career she has rock and metal songs, ballads, she performing classical and operatic music, she even have her own "Ave Maria", also christmas music, amazing two albums with christmas songs in dark arrangements, she's also part of electronic duo Outlanders, you have many different options to listen. ;)
Classical music and metal music have much in common, there is similar instrumental structure in many cases, metal music can be very melodic and also very difficult to play, very technical.
I hope you will react to her! ;)
Btw, metal music and classical music have much in common, musically have similar structure and metal it's not only harsh vocals.
First, no one forced Tarja to be in Nightwish, she chose it and loved being part of this band, so yes, Tarja chose Nightwish over opera career. ;)

After 2 decades Tarja & Marko healed the old wounds and are currently performing together once again. Tuomas is the mastermind but Marko & Tarja were the soul of Old Nightwish.
I don't think there were much wounds between Marko and Tarja to begin with.

It's so refreshing to see someone getting to know the OG Nightwish first. Don't get me wrong, the Wacken 2013 performance is stellar, but it is not all there is to know about the band! Loved your reaction!
Metal and theatre goes together, lot of metal are storytelling songs and vocalists are trained in classical music

Eventually, since you love Phantom, you should check out two more versions. Floor Jansen (Nightwish vocalist since 2012) does an amazing version on a Dutch tv show called Beste Zangers with Dutch singer Henk Poort (who played the Dutch Phantom). There is also a live version with Floor and Nightwish that is amazing! Actually, there's a third by a Swedish guy named Tommy Johansson (you'll thank me)!
I love Tarja❤ I have seen her in 2004. She IS so good live❤👌🏻
Watching a Phantom of the opera nightwish live react too see the react of Marco is my passion 😎
Tarja is not exactly an opera singer but she studied lyrical singing at Sibelius Academy Helsinki and Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She is a classical lied singer with a three-octave vocal range (soprano).

Tarja and Marco together were a dream. They published a song together in 2024 "left on mars" .. its very good
This is a great place for an opera singer to start listening to symphonic metal. Metal and rock can involve great musicianship and great singing. It doesn't have to be mediocre. Great rock isn't.

Ive been a huge nightwish fan since childhood and this has been one of my favourite songs for like 20 years
Welcome to the high drama, high art world of Nightwish.
Actually Andrew Lloyd Webber said from an IMDB article that this was his favorite Phantom of the Opera version.
I just discovered your youtube page... Congratulations, great reaction... Grettings from Mexico🤘😎🤘
It's great to have such a passionate, positive reaction-video-maker explore the raw musical talent that resides here. ;)
Nightwish is great, they have many, many really strong songs, I've been a fan since I was 15, their music has been the soundtrack of my life.
But I have to mention Roy Khan too, as you are looking for the best singers; his voice just has that special something.
Check out his band Kamelot and prepare to be amazed. ;)
And there is of course Ayreon; that is a vocalists overload! They somethings have... what is it? 9? 10 vocalists live on stage at once. XD
I'm new to your channel, so I am going to sub and bingewatch some of your older vids now. ;D
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for letting me rediscover Nightwish ❤
When pop singers sing about a break up or betrayal, it’s still a poppy upbeat song. When metal singers do it, you feel their pain, anger or jealousy. Metal to me has more of a punch to the gut. I love musical theater for the same reason. I heard Nightwish’s version after Phantom came out and was hooked ever since.
In my, humble opinion, rock and metal music is a true test for a musician. If you are good, you will be praised, if you make a mistake, 90% of the audience will notice!
Iconic performance 😊
More Nightwish please!
Both Tarja and Floor are incredible singers, enjoy 🤘
Wooow this reactor is so f$&king satisfying to watch, nice Sir😊👍🏻
Tarja WAS a singer at the Opera of Buenos Aires.....I love your breathlesless after hearing these heavenly sounds :-)
And your way of understanding, that metall needs way more talent, as the most peaople are thinking
Ghost Love Score is a must. Both versions are totally worth listening
Yes, it’s a must, but so is High Hopes. Floor at her best and then Marko at his best!
