I really love listening to you play on the maple best of the 3. followed by the ebony. but still love the look of the rosewood best LOL! the ebony sounds clearest but the maple sounds so beautiful and i think you look happier playing the maple- peaceful and relaxed like it's part of you
Very interesting comparison...the ebony(?) has the clearest, smoothest sound but I could hear the overtones when you played the rosewood... I would imagine either of them are very good solo instruments!
I love them all, but for myself I prefer the ebony. It is full, round but not dark, and well balanced. I also love how full and loud the low notes can be, without sharping. The maple makes a lot of sound, especially for maple, and was much more flexible than I thought it would be. The rosewood has the bright reedy sound, with overtones that carry. The maple is similar to the ebony in timbre. I prefer the sound of the ebony and maple, over the rosewood, but since the maple is kind of in between the two different sound qualities of the other instrument, maybe it’s best to keep the ebony and rosewood so you have both extremes of timbre. I do love that maple though, and would hate to see you lose it. It has a sweetness to it that the rosewood does not have.
🤣Not helping! I've had the maple one from new for 35 years and the ebony one from secondhand for over 20 years so there may be attachment issues going on here. I'd prefer to give up saxophone and sell that instead but then some pupils would miss out learning it- I wouldn't miss lugging it around though- it does amuse me when people describe tenor recorders as heavy, as they are so light compared to reed instuments!
Your playing on all was lovely (& making we want to go practice) but I prefer the warmer rosewood and maple to the ebony. The ebony sounds more brittle and a little less pleasing, at least to my ear. Good luck!
that's what I say! I love the sound of all 3 but at first liked the maple best on the scales then the ebony.. but LOVE the look of rosewood and liked it on that song (I'm only halfway through listening LOL!) but I'm wanting all the recorders!
