What I give the this game credit is when you have James going into the fog and trying to fight off monsters I feel the team Behind Silent Hill 2 might've took some ideas from the Film The fog
The human emotion of pushing someone away but really wanting them to stay during your hardest times. This game is one of a kind. The VA for Mary did an amazing role.
This game NAILS just human emotion - In one of the endings, Mary tells James that she feels guilty that he felt that he had to kill her, and even apologizes for that. I've never seen being murdered approached from that angle, but it just makes so much sense.
I think it’s because the voice actress playing Mary genuinely found the script moving and it made her cry. To this day, one of the saddest narratives I have experienced. I don’t think it needs a remake.
well resident evil 4 remake apparently nailed it, whether og fans want it or not, a remake is on the way, so it´s best if we all just hope they nail it with sh2 too
I JUST WANT THE OLD VOICE ACTORS! The story was good and all but the voice acting SOLIDIFIED the story for me. Taking it from Great to a Masterpiece. I hope the remake can do this justice, people are too negative, it weighs down the devs.
It's only when everyone speaks that their performances seem extremely off - I love how all of James' internal monologues are actually as smooth as butter compared to the mess that is his speaking voice
I don't know if this was an influence on this game or not, but its kind of similar to "Wait Until Dark" where everybody but the main woman character is kind of strange and threatening and she's the only one that comes off as a genuinely nice person. Laura definitely reminds me of the bratty little girl neighbor in that play
i thought it was over, so i went to open the door, and right as was, she was starting to beg James not to go...god, I felt so horrible but I couldn't go back!
The more I play this game and pay attention to the details I missed when I played this as a teenager, the more I appreciate the incredible work behind this. The script, voice acting and all round gameplay. There's no way any remake could come close to this masterpiece.
The remake is pretty good, the voice acting isn't as good as this one, visually, it's great, kinda wished it had the same grainy visuals of the original.. maybe it'll come at some point.
I kind of regret playing this game for the first time as a freshman in high school. I just didn't have the emotional maturity to really appreciate the sadness in this game as well as the fear
I bet they'll never but we'll check it out If It's really deserve to be called Silent hill 2 because I Don't trust anyone taking on this project except the Original Team Silent.
@@erenyeager7705 Bloober team are the worst devs, they will definitely screw this up. They are terrible when it comes to writing about mental illness, their solution is always to make the person feel terrible and then tell them to unalive themselves for existing. Blair witch and the medium both notoriously had these narratives also they literally ripoff other games as well, lot of videos that expose them.
@@hadjet4630 The devs started with horror in 2016 with Layers of Fear which is PT rip off and then continued with more PT rip offs all with the shitty writing that the other comment said, they had 8 years and 6 games (one of them is the remake of their first game) to prove themselves as a good studio, so I think it's fair to shit on them
Damn, the remake doesn't even come close to this. Like I'm not one of those people who blindly hate the remake I think it's great and Mary's VA did an excellent job, especially with the letter. HOWEVER, this scene is just so heart-wrenching and raw that you just don't get with the remake.
The remake is a fantastic game and an amazing Silent Hill game on its own right. But yes, the OG Maria/Mary actress is just what I prefer too. Even in 01, her acting was far above the rest of the cast and it really is like a lightning in a bottle. She was amazing. The current Mary/Maria is excellent, better than the HD remastered one by miles, but she is not as "immersed" as the OG actress - which I don't blame her for. The OG actress apparently related to the script really closely.
Fr, no hate to the remake but you can tell Mary and Maria in SH2R are going for a more cinematic and movie like approach compared to how authentic the OG was
And the original cant be topped becuase it wasnt really acting, it was a real woman crying with real emotions felt from the script, thats the reason i prefer the original, it feels REAL, they are mostly weird people but you can still feel they are real people with real emotions instead of this hollywood movie acting from the remake, 0 emotion felt from their part.
The message I would take with Silent Hill 2 Mostly with James is that dealing with Loss and grief is hard but trying to hold memories of what really happen is never heathy as you can't think someone is still alive even if you want to still paint it your mind they are still around
The point though, is that James *needs* to accept what really happened. He let go of memories of reality and dove headfirst into delusions which allowed him to believe that Mary was alive, even though she had died three years ago. When in fact Mary was dead for maybe a day and in the backseat or trunk of his car at the start of the game.
I Feel like this is me as I am a hemodialysis patient and it is just getting to me mentally and I've become a miserable loser inflicted upon my partner, family, and friends.

In SH it could be the town is messing with peoples heads. Or ... just ignore the newance i guess😊

amazing voice acting. though in all truth... I can't imagine an ending where James' guilt doesn't kill him. say he ran to the end of the hall, knowing he was hated, and quite guilty for what he had done... but staying... now he would feel worse for leaving her.
