      @@mrspeaky6885 I got my sandvik hand scraper off ebay. The carbide blades are also available on Ebay (at least in Europe - I search for schaber klingen).

      If you google "sandvik scraper" you should be able to find a seller near you.
      Another option is to braze carbide onto the end of flat steel. Nothing too complicated about this stuff. I made a brazed scraper blade in about episode 4 or 5.

    Look forward to hearing how you get on with the 7i96 on your lathe. I literally just picked up a EMCO Compact 5 cnc that needs a full FULL rebuild. Probably won't go to your lengths, however. :)

    • @RotarySMP

    Nice work. One thing to say is that small SSD's are dirt cheap. I put an SSD in my router controller for about 20$ for a 64gb unit. That one is running windows and usbcnc software and I can say it's very nice to deal with compared to those mechanical drives.

    • @RotarySMP
      @RotarySMP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They have really come down in price since I did the Maho, and used an SD Card and adapter. Thanks for watching.

    • @AntiVaganza
      @AntiVaganza 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RotarySMP As for the Maho and Linux, did you see that very swank looking new GUI/Screenset called ProbeBasic (I think)? It's inspired by PathPilot and has a ton of probing options and just looks really pleasant overall.
      Also, while this might not be the perfect place to ask, I have noticed you are very good at giving answers, so I will take my chances:)
      Thing is, I am a hobby machinist but very far from being a programmer and soon I will start building a stiff, desktop router (surface plate based) but as for control, I also just want something that's nice to look at. Maybe that's slightly superficial but it does actually help in using things. So, when I saw the screensets for Linux, especially, the above mentioned, I was really happy.
      Now, the "simple" question is: Would you think someone who never programmed but is likely a bit above the normal person in tinkering abilities (I have changed plenty of harddrives, fans, etc in my Macs) can set up Linux and LinuxCNC without spending more than a few weeks ripping his hair out? Is the LinuxCNC forum OK with walking newbies through it if they ask very specific questions - or are they more inclined to just say I should "read the documentation"...?

    • @RotarySMP
      @RotarySMP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AntiVaganza Dont get hung up on the "look" of the GUI. The work flow is way more important. Gmoccapy was created to largely replicate the work flow ofHeidenhain controllers, and is brilliant for it's usablity. Many Path Pilot type new GUI are way to overloaded with all information on one screen if you ask me. Gmoccapy is very modal. with the soft keys function dependant on modes. I like it so much I designed my Control panel for the MAHO to replicate the soft keys with physical buttons..
      The LinuxCNC forum has excellent guys. You nailed it. If you can formulate a clear question, you always get answers. From my time there, the people who get frustrated generally are not able to ask clear questions.

    • @AntiVaganza
      @AntiVaganza 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RotarySMP True, good point. But I do like when things look nice - I find it keeps the overall user experience more positive. But I looked at the screenset a bit more and later iterations did indeed become quite "busy".
      I was even thinking of a cheap standalone Chinese controller, but I think as this will be my first CNC machine, it would make sense to have a proper screen and keyboard as I will likely be making more mistakes in setting up things than people who already know their stuff.
      Thanks so much for taking the time to reply:)

    Hey RotarySMP, great video!
    Also we (the comenters) noticed that the pwm port went back to zero.. i also noticed that when you set up the z Axis (the One with the imperial leadscrew) you put the value on the MM section but there is just bellow that a place to put TPI = threads per inch... You should have used that (i think)... Everything else looked perfect 😋

    • @RotarySMP
      @RotarySMP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I didn't notice that the PWM was at zero. Thanks. I'll run it again.
      You got me. I knew it was imperial, measured it at about 5mm, remembered it was 5.08mm, and was too lazy to work what that is in TPI :)

    C to close a program in a terminal. Z to put it to sleep, type "fg" (fg for foreground) to start it up again. And btw, you can move between words by depressing while punching the arrow keys back and forth, just like you can in the comment field in youtube, or anywhere else really.

    Is additional adapter board for vfd necessary if you can get PWM signal out of controller ?
    Got same 7i96 today it will be fun to configure it all.

    • @RotarySMP
      @RotarySMP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That probably depends on the controller. If it can accept a PWM input then you should be fine direct from the Mesa card, but mine needed an analog 0-10V input, hence the little adapeter board. Those thing only cost a few bucks.
