VT won, convincingly in their bowl game against Tulane, a 11 win team. We lost to Rutgers and they rushed for over 200 yards. VT finished strong also. UM should not be ranked going in, much less at 15. The knock is Mario. Simple. 1-6 v ranked and back to back 3-5 records. Manny was 5-3 in ACC final season and worst record 4-4 in ACC. That's it. Our UM teams have underwhelmed since joining the ACC. We don't deserve to be ranked until they earn it. Go Canes

Obviously im a VT fan, but even though Miami has more talent (always a top 20 recruiting program) vt has more production with their players. After the marshall loss vt changed qb and team scheme and went on a 6-3 run, producing a top 20 defense (top 10 in sacks) with consistent all ACC qb kyron, a deep wr room and rb tuten providing a dynamic offense. All of this is returning with more talent maybe improving that 6-3 run. I haven’t watched too much of canes football so i cant so much on that end but i know the acc is great when our two teams are on top.

I know it sounds wierd but I worry more about Mario's out of game coaching more than I do his in game coaching. For Mario to be such a intense guy oddly his teams don't seem to play with alot of intensity.Too many times his teams come out flat which leads to close games and then his bad in game coaching starts to show.
Miami always looks good in the off-season. Look at Tyler Van Dykes stats from last year spring game. I think VT is ahead of them despite Miami having better players because Miami has always had better players and done less. That’s why.
Alex, respectfully, while I understand you’re doing a fun gig for fans of a sport, let’s at least put some research into your analysis. VT brought in a .97 from Alabama, a .95 from Oklahoma, a good Mike from MTSU, a couple more DLs, and an OL or two. Their receiving corps might be the best in the ACC, and they have a stud RB, and QB. That’s really all they need to get preseason hype, especially coming off them blowing Tulane out in the bowl game. They figured out their identity and will be a very intriguing team to watch this season.
VT is ranked in the top 25 bc of all the talent that returned and our recruiting class. Not to mention that we are gonna destroy the ACC this season, just saying lol

I would love to see both VT and UM get back to the rivalry days of the late 1990s to early 2000s. There was no better football in the country, in my opinion. Those games were blue collar and knock down drag outs. It was great for college football.
I'm obviously more familiar with ACC season as a whole, but I'm sure fans of other teams in other conferences are also scratching their heads. For the good, getting rid of two SEC teams that likely didn't belong (there are still SEC teams getting the SEC benefit of the doubt rankings though), especially Kentucky. Not when there were so many teams that had a better chance of actually staying in the top 25 and not just handing SEC teams an early season ranked matchup before Kentucky spiraled. Same thing with A&M (and yes honestly, Miami as well in a lot of ways). The bad though is astounding. Leaving out Louisville is wild, VaTech being as high as they are much less in is wild. I mean put GaTech in. They had better momentum to end the season, and pushed Georgia to 4 full quarters. None of VaTechs wins to end the season impressed me as much as GaTech making the then #1 team in the country sweat all four quarters. Which is even more impressive when you look at the margins of victory the Dawgs had against other highly ranked SEC opponents. Want to rank someone in the ACC for seeming to put pieces together to be a possible 9 win team? Yellow-Jackets are my pick. The Louisville snub is just ridiculous though. I don't care what they lost or gained, they were a 10 win team last year, that ALWAYS gets you a pre-season ranking, even if it's in the 20s. Winning 10 games in a season is hard, only 18 power 5 teams did it last year, and 10 G5 teams. Not getting a nod for that achievement but giving Tennessee a pass is...well the bias we've come to expect from ESPN I guess.

Rankings should not come out until October, college football teams change so much, especially now with the portal. Pre season rankings are just to keep you talking about college football.
